Still funny.

I'll admit though, the 9mm surprised me too. It's not surprising that people might still be using that cartridge 20 years from now, because they will. But given all the power suits and security droids running around, you'd expect a bodyguard might have something a little more...futuristic.

Man all that arguing in the last thread makes me reconsider what I've done thus far. If people are going to be that upset about content, it is disheartening.

I've been working on a text-based high-fantasy MUD with MMO elements where a good deal close to everything requires sexual activity:

Harvesting resources? Sexual encounter.
Crafting items? Sexual encounter.
Fighting? JK, sexual encounter. Societal structure is closer to that of bonobo than chimps.
Skilling up? Ok, ok -- simply requires time to level up a skill, even when you aren't playing (see: EvE Online).

Planned features include procedurally generated NPCs for characters to interact as they please, world events to participate in, clothing/modesty system, hunger/thirst system, public API for other people to make clients, etc.

Currently the core engine "simulates" 11 body part types, open to more, which leads to all sorts of possible new/crazy content I haven't really seen "traditionally" (eg in my 5+ years lurking /d/). Unfortunately, still working in infrastructure-land.

Part of me wishes I hadn't gone the multiplayer route -- development gets much more complicated -- and instead done something like interactive fiction in Inform7.
>>
>Went into this hoping for a quick wank
>Ended up spending hours trying to accumulate obscene amounts of wealth so I can enslave that rival arcology owner.
>>
>>6574792
But MUDs are so much more fun than single player games
>>
>>6574802
The player-to-player interactions can be a blessing and a curse. Awesome players will bring the blessings and jerks will make my (and others') life hell. Part of me wants to make it a free-trial/subscription model to incentivize people to stick around and not troll/be jerks, and keep the in-game community smaller and higher impact to really maximize P2P interaction.
>>
>>6574792
>If people are going to be that upset about content, it is disheartening.
If you can't deal with people wanting you to add things to your game -- either by doing everything they want, or by ignoring them -- then you should quit now.

>MUD with MMO elements
>doom clone with first-person elements

>everything requires sexual activity
Are players going to have to do this with other players? Are you targeting the ho-mo-sex-u-al market?

Multiplayer is hard to get started. The first person to buy a phone can't call anybody.

>>6574813
You want to charge money? ... good luck
>>
>>6574813
If you want to do a subscription thing, you better be the best MUD around. Online text based games don't exactly have massive player-bases, even less for sex based ones.
>>
>>6574818
>If you can't deal with people wanting you to add things to your game -- either by doing everything they want, or by ignoring them -- then you should quit now.

For the guy doing an MMO, it might be easier for him because all he has to do is ignore it and no one can really mod his game. The people who wanted something added will just leave eventually once they realize they're not getting it. But the guy would potentially lose a part of his player base if he did that.

On the other hand, with a single player game, he can choose to ignore it, but he has to be realistic about whether people will add in stuff he doesn't want. Once it's released, it's really out of his hands. There will be content he never wanted in the game, whether he likes it or not.
>>

> If you want to do a subscription thing, you better be the best MUD around. Online text based games don't exactly have massive player-bases, even less for sex based ones.
Not sure what "best MUD around" I would be competing against -- but I don't want to put any emphasis on the money thing. A large part of me really wants to leave it free to play. It's easier on me, on players, on everything in between.
>>
>>6574839
>Not sure what "best MUD around" I would be competing against
There are a lot of them that are really good, a few of them with sexual stuff in them.
There are also about a hundred that are completely dead, so be aware of that too.
>>

>Not sure what "best MUD around" I would be competing against
WoW, FF14, etc. If you're serious about going commercial, get ready to hire a payment service (paypal, that "swipe" thing?). You do not want to roll your own, and the liability when you get everything wrong will end you.

Definitely agree with you there. Dealing with money sucks even when it is "going right" -- chargebacks, fake CCs, etc. It's not worth it.

Chargebacks and liability, nothing. As soon as money becomes involved, it attracts a species of asshat that believes it just bought the rights to your firstborn for five bucks, and will never let you or the rest of the player base forget it.

Dude, just do your research. MUX have been around long enough that the wheel has been reinvented dozens of times. Learn from other people's mistakes before you start writing a feature list.

FCdev is going to bitterly regret tying features to real-life science once every single feature request turns into a fifty-comment clusterfuck about the feasibility of medical advancement X.

As for that particular feature, I think slaves are interchangeable enough as it is. Don't want him to make it even worse.

Yeah, probably should have amended "and a function I want in the game" to "scientifically probable" earlier. That's usually kind of implied but FCDev is usually pretty good about the feature requests - people get attenuated to circumstances.

I'm moderately okay with the game now, but it's kind of undercuts the previous response to "why can't I put a dick on XX slaves?" of "nah, medicine can't do it". We'll see though, FCDev may never return to /dgg/ after the previous clusterfuck.

Dollmistress' games are very 'simulation-ey'

Overseer is a game where you play a chick that gets mindfucked by a Big Sapphic Mind Control Conspiracy and tasked with building up a 'hive' of your own. It is, admittedly, pretty monotonous, but the author is in the process of recoding/streamlining it with the benefit of what she learned from her latest game, Miss Adventure.

Miss Adventure is also sim-ey, but in the sense that you have to make sure to eat, keep yourself clean, go to work, etc. The actual plotline is that the PC finds out they are a superhero and begins detectiving all the weird (and inevitably mind-control themed) stuff happening in the city.

So each slave incurs roughly a 100-300 upkeep cost depending on what you give them.

Things like the brothel and promenade incur an upkeep cost of 500 when built, an additional 500 per capacity upgrade and an additional 100 when they upgrade.

An obedient slave in the servant's quarters reduces upkeep by 400.

So if I have say 15 slaves outside the servant's quarters that should cost me in the range of 4500-5000 credits.

If I have the brothel and promenade with an occupancy of 5 each as well as their upgrades that's an additional 1200 credits.

Would I be right in guessing that am I going to need 16 obedient slaves at the most in the servant's quarters to get rid of the upkeep costs of having 5 slaves in the brothel, 5 slaves out on the promenade and 5 shall we say arsing about in the penthouse?

I'm just wondering if I have the right idea about what's what in relation to upkeep.

Milk nerfed into uselessness, but I don't mind because now I have the Arcade. It's free money. Take a cheap crappy slave, drop her in there, roll in cash. And once in a while pay a visit to the facility and see the rows and rows of Mindbroken, Extremely Unhealthy, Very Slow slaves staring vacantly back at you...
>>
>>6575565
That math sounds right.

It's been my experience that I tend to end up with a looot of servants to pay for the rest of my slaves if a game goes long enough.

Also don't forget to add in upkeep costs for mercenaries, if you want them. $3,000/week for the first event, and it jumps to $5,000/week if you upgrade/knight them.

Extreme aphrodisiacs reduce health by one, gloryhole without preventatives reduces health by one, too.

Result: Slaves go in, slaves don't go out.

I wonder if that means they learn that a slaved passed away when some client complains that the holes he rented wouldn't tighten.

This sucks by the way. I *demand* to be able to give them preventatives instead of aphrodisiacs in the name of prolonged punishment.

Like, get an event that they are on the brink and whether you want to let them in or get them out or whatever.

It's a revolutionary using 9mm. I see the suits the PC and the mercs wear using mostly legacy weapons, just bigger than an unassisted person can comfortably wield and carry ammo for. The drones are probably a bit more exotic due to weight considerations - caseless, maybe, in the 5-6mm range.

I meant that the current situation (people dying all the time) could happen, but you could fix the situation (by upgrading (targeted health drug IV rather than preventatives, perhaps?)) and no longer have people die all the time. Not like fixing the individual deaths. If you care about individual slaves, you could already fix it individually by taking them out and healing them and treating them nicely before throwing them into the glory holes anew.

FCDev:

I got tired of lag in FC. Instead of bitching about it, I decided to dig into twine and figure out what the hell was causing it to take over a second between scenes. The two big lag spots for me are summary generation, and event selection. I haven't found what is causing the summary lag, but I found is causing the event selection lag.

So in your code: You go through every slave and if they qualify for an event you add both the event to a list and the slave id to a list. Once this is done, you select a random event, then a random slave from that event's slave list. You then discard these arrays at the end, and remake them at the end.

Holy shit is this wasteful. You currently have fifty-six events with an average of three checks each. I currently have seventy slaves in my game. Worst case (in computer science you always plan worst case until you can math out average), your going to push nearly four thousand slave ids and events into arrays.

The further downside to this method is the more slaves who qualify for an event, the more common said event is. This is more of an opinion, because I'd rather see more different events but up to you.

My proposed solution:
Instead of iterating over every slave select a random slave. Have an array of all the events. Select a random number "i" less than the size of the event array. Starting at the number and working your way up check if the slave qualifies for event[i]. If she does, fire that event. If she doesn't, increment i. Make sure that if "i" becomes greater than size of the event array it is set to zero so you start from the front of the array. If you make it all the way around to your original random number, you can do two things. You could select another random slave and repeat this process, or you could just have "No Event" fire.

If you go the "no event" route, you only make around 150 comparisons (instead of over eleven thousand), and store two random numbers (instead of four thousand).

continued...

Glory-hole and Arcade both don't directly cause mindbreaking, only the odd quirk.

However they both lower devotion, and when a slave is rebellious or worse and has more then a 100 sex acts there is a weekly chance to mindbreak.

You can keep slaves worshipful in the gloryhole, probably for years like confinement.
>>
>>6575839

Office facility. Slutty secretaries make money based on intelligence, they have a Supervisor for their supervisor.
>>
>>6575838

The method I specified above follows the style you have currently: the more slaves who qualify for an event, the more common that event is.

If you want to control how often different events occur, instead of selecting a random slave, then finding an event that fits the slave, you select a random (or weighted random) event, then go through the slaves to find one who fits the event. Downside to this one is that is probably more likely to end in a "no event", but it lets you control how often events are.

Hope my posts help you, and make the game better.

That's already an option, right?
>>
>>6575838
if the random slave doesn't qualify for any event, couldn't he just repeat the process with another random slave until someone does? or just fire one of the events that have nothing to do with a slave. Those already happen often.
>>
>>6575855

After reading your comment I went back and looked and yeah >_>

The way FCDev does event normalization might actually be another source of lag. He does it by removing duplicate events from the event table. I'm not sure what twine uses for their arrays, but it is probably not optimized for mid list deletion.

>>
>>6575857

I mention the repeat is an option. The downside to this is that if no slaves qualify for any events, you have to have a bit of logic to catch that case.

I've already found an issue with my code: it doesn't really account for events that aren't slave focused. FCDev would have to add a decision statement that decides whether or not to do a slave focused event, or use the alternate method I described in >>6575847

Inform7 is basically designed to help beginners get started with a text adventure, but you'll have to do some extra work to do things that aren't text adventures. Do you like how trapquest's interface works? It's that. (The pictures might take a little extra work too)

Newlife itself is in java with some UI toolkit or other.. I wouldn't recommend a beginner start with that but if you're adventurous you'll get some useful skills as a side-effect. Same goes for other general-purpose programming languages like C++.

It's hard to give a suggestion if you don't already know a programming language.

Twine would work. You create scenes, link them together, and it has macros that let you change what the text is based on options i.e. if x, print y otherwise print z.

If you just want to start making stuff, Twine is probably the easiest route to go. If you want to learn a RL applicable skill, the faster route would be to code it in HTML5/Javascript/JQuery, but that requires learning a lot more.

Reductio ad absurdum won't save you, FC Dev. Deep down inside, you know it to be true: there's only one real fighting caliber.

Pic very much related.

But...9mm is clearly in control! You have foiled your own plans this time, /k/!

That's not a reductio, that's a continuum fallacy. Just saying.

Anon, this is the kind of shit you test yourself. But yes it does work. I opened up my save, bought a slave from The Slavegirl School, removed her ovaries and got the bonus message.

Thanks for the game FC dev. I am also curious about about the possibility of adding some snuff and human toilet content. I would also like to suggest new slave modifications such as clit removal, pussy sewing, blindfold, and eye removal. Im not sure if you have already made statements on these.

the game also slows down the more saves you have, for optimal performance running a single save+autosave is best
>>
>>6575836

You can make an object constructor in the Javascript window of Sugarcube, then call that function and set the new object as a twine variable. Seems to work alright.

If I end up deciding on Twine, I'm sure I'll get better as I go along and be able to deal with it somehow.

>>6575966
So after I've explored Quest's game book development for a while now. I'm actually less confused with Twine. Quest's documentation is not as extensive as Twine's and I can at least search an index with Twine's. Quest's is really annoying to navigate. I'll keep it in the back of my mind, but I probably won't use Quest. I'll look at Daydreamer next.
>>
>>6576213
I only recommend quest because I think it's pretty powerful and can handle OOP. If you want something easy, you don't get easier than twine.
>>
>>6576214

So Twine doesn't exactly allow OOP? Because I can technically make objects, like
$player
$activenpc
then have variables assigned to it like
$player.name = "John Doe"
$activenpc.sex = "male"

Like I said, I'm a completely inexperienced programmer so I don't understand it when they seem to function in the same way. If you can explain to me what the difference is, I would appreciate it.

Now the rules assistant automatically tattoos the slaves' chests with "no default setting". I take it this means he accidentally a " or something so the game doesn't get it's a value and not something it's supposed to print.

What you're doing there is kind of but not really OO.

A "true" Object has a well-defined identity and list of things it has and can do.

What you're using there is Javascript's prototype model, it allows you to set arbitrary properties on things, either like you're doing (thing.var) or with array-like access (var['thing']).

Another difference is that in a lot of languages you can't just get a list of everything an object has and loop through it, you have to know what to ask for. With Javascript's properties, you can just loop through all the properties on an object.

A side note, OO in Javascript is really just a side-effect of the prototype model, and doesn't really enforce any identity for the things you create using it.

Also note that I haven't done any serious Javascript in YEARS, so all of this may in fact be wrong.

Inform is object oriented, Twine is not

Lets say you want to see how many of your npc's have both trait A and trait B.

With inform, all you need to do is define something as an npc and give it those traits. Any time you want to know about npc's with trait A, call npc's with trait A. Any time you want to know about npc's with trait A and B, call npc's with trait A and B.

With twine, you need to create an object(or an array) for that npc and give it those traits, and give it a trait for its name. Next, you need to create an array of all npc's. Next, create an array of all npc's with trait A. Next, create an array of all npc's with trait B. Any time you want to know about npc's with trait A, call the array of npc's with trait A. Any time you want to know about npc's with trait A and trait B, call the array of npc's with trait A, then call the array of npc's with trait B.

"Objects" in twine are arbitrary, so you can only track objects individually, and if you want to track objects on a greater scale, you're out of luck unless you create an object made up of aliases for other objects.
