I feel this place could use more weirdness and whatnot.
Time for The Goon, folks.
That's a lot of crap.
That's a lot of childhood trauma!
Not everyone can go the Bruce Wayne route of childhood trauma.
This is a lotta exposition! (It's worth it)
Who *hasn't* done something blasphemous to pay the bills?
Who *doesn't* like body horror?
It's not usually wise to insult circus freaks anyway. Ain't he ever seen "Freaks"?
I dunno why, but I love the terms they use for zombies in this book more than in most any other comic out there.
Heh...Slack Jaws
Stupid orangutans
Who among us can't say we've never accidentally created an abomination of nature?
More shovel beatings, more shovel beatings for EVERYONE!
"Ham Romance" will be the name of my new Industrial Punk band.
The facial expressions in this book, just masterfully done.
Being built like a gorilla is a pain.
You know how annoying it is to have to twist your shoulders through little door frames in Asian countries?
Don't even get me started on the tiny ass showers...
This can only end in tears and blood. And possibly human excrement.
Three times in a row the captcha asks me to identify freakin' storefronts. MIX IT UP DAMN YOU!
Not sure where my pride/being eaten by cannibals line is...but I'm sure everyone has one.
>>84559944
>setting fire to the circus tents
That's kinda shitty to your former family. I imagine those things aren't cheap for a travelling caravan
Whoooo likes silly caricatures?!
>>84560167
Gotta hide the bodies some way, and if you bury it under animal shit, they'll just find'em again.
Though you do bring up a valid point. I just chalk it up to anger induced childhood ignorance.
Dat anger.
Three MORE times storefront captchas...bah.
I love every panel of this page.
Soo...should I keep going? Is /co/ feeling the weirdness with me?
Returning momentito, need coffee.
Coffee and a smoke. I feel energized. I'ma keep going even if no one's readin'. /co/ and the WORLD needs more Goon.
That and the horror rockabilly I got playing fits the mood.
Mad scientists make EVERY form of fiction better.
If you don't agree, I don't care to meet you.
Though he's a very well mannered mad scientist.
Good intentions turning one into a criminal, when done right, is downright fun.
The poor poor chinchillas...
He's like a 1940s family friendly version of Hannibal Lecter, really.
Thanks op, been meaning to read this
>>84560370
Yer welcome. Hope ya enjoy it.
Rawr.
Old people are a gold mine for wacky hi-jinks related jokes.
He's got that look in his eyes.
And what's a noir inspired story without sexy dames?
mm...feelings.
I'd like to get to post some Chinatown at some point. It really is a work of art.
At least there are no chinchillas around this time.
That pane of glass. I loves it.
Insert Popeye theme here.
Poor misunderstood bastard.
WHY DO WE NOT EMBRACE THIS MAD MAN?!
But at least the Doc took the old lady's advice to heart!
This advert is canon. And I love it.
Time for more childhood trauma!
Dat wacky Bush Administration
The writer/artist, Powell, is from backwoods Tennessee, so self mockery is thrown in there from time to time.
Heh...magic picture box.
Dat deadly building.
Backstory!
That's not my Franky! (yet)
Oooh he's gonna get it...
He got it.
Eye popping!
Maybe he *should* have been armed with a ham.
Ruh roh Raggy.
Again, I LOVE the facial expressions this guy does.
GYPOS!
That's a mighty fine promise there Franky.
Bloody hell, sorry for posting these two pages backwards, my roommate was talking to me, distracting like.
Dammit man! I told you to bring a ham!
Gasp?
Zombies? No problem. Shooting people? Bah.
Stupid morals getting in the way of surviving!
NOO not Franky!
How's THAT for some character development.
Heh. Dat eye.
Folks I'll brb. Somethin' to take care of!
>>84561105
Come back soon friend.
I love me some goon storytimes.
I hope the movie will still happen. Been forever since that kickstarter. Still have the signed poster on my wall.
>>84560212
LOL
>>84560463
It's doggamn masterpiece. That's what it is.
I'm so glad I've been reading the Goon Library editions blind.
>>84561847
Tim Miller said recently that they're close to completing the deal. I can't wait.
Bumping because the Goon is always relevant.
I almost wish it wasn't so good so we'd have something to bitch about, instead of every Goon thread ending after 5 posts because everyone agrees it's amazing.
God bless the Goon.
>>84560367
I still wonder if the parole board were really brainwashed or if those truffles were just Alloy being good mannered.
>tfw SSB 2 NEVER EVER
You would think somebody would've done at least a ghetto storytime of it by now, but noooooooo
>>84563118
I have money on good manners.
>>84562403
I figure the Goon encompasses all that is awesome in comic books. It hits a lotta notes from different genres.
And Chinatown is a fucking masterpiece, and I'll kneecap anyone who says different.
>>84562263
I remember some article with him saying that a month after the Deadpool movie did so well producers started calling him.
"So hey...R rated comic movies make money...didn't you say you had something?"
Ahhh Hollywood.
Heh, Blinky.
Them's some tough kidney stones.
Things are about to get weird folks...
I imagine this is the kinda stuff that Lovecraft would have written if he had a tentacle fetish.
"I Want Your Mammal Love In Me" will be the name of my funk themed Nine Inch Nails cover band.
HORK
The horror...THE HORROR!
Who enjoys pie?
Huh...apparently the captcha likes pies, or at least can't identity them...
Delicious seductive pie. Just look at those curvy scent lines...
More people should have pastry themed celebrations concerning Genghis Kahn.
>>84562403
I have two minor complaints about the Goon.
I don't really like when it drops its humor completely and becomes borderline grimdark. It's really jarring and the Goon Year arc was, well, an entire year's worth of grimdarkness from my favorite funny book. I'd argue Chinatown was worth the shift in tone for the one story, though. A year is just too much.
This concerns the end of the series:I really didn't like how the Zombie Priest was screwed over and killed after becoming a reliable ally to the Goon and Franky for the final story arc. It was completely in Goon's character. but it still sucked. I really came to root for the old bastard, due to how absolutely pitiful he became after Labrazio's resurrection. I ended up rooting for him to get some of his own back after that, and came to respect how hard his miserable life was. I never expected to find him as compelling as I did, and I wanted him to stick around for any future Goon stuff.
>>84564408
Bad people who do horrible things, even if they do become allies of convenience, still gotta pay for their crimes.
>>84564440
I agree, I just think he didn't necessarily have to go bankrupt.
>>84564469
To each their own of course. Though you're right about him becoming compelling. I didn't see that coming. I felt worse for his familiar.
Speaking of somewhat grimdark, this issue has that, but I think it works still. Mix that with the dark violent humor and well, winner.
>>84564493
Definitely felt for the little guy, too.
Remember to thank your author/artist on a regular basis, or they become abusive to their children.
And if you put torture in a *regular* book people freak out, especially if the torture-ee is a female.
Thank Azathoth for The Goon.
>>84564506
Reminder to pick up Eric Powell's "Hillbilly", in comic shops now!
It feels cut from the cloth of The Goon, with a larger focus on Appalachian mysticism. And Buzzard is guest-starring in the second issue!
>>84564570
Sold. Didn't know that was out.
Also picked up his "Big man Plans" Graphic novel.
That shit was depressing as fuck, but worth the read.
Oh Franky, you horrible degenerate.
I kinda wish that Seal had shown up more in the series.
Bog lurks. Bah.
I wonder if Dead Cat Pocket Stuffing has a scientific name as a compulsion...
Dead wife, misshapen kids, face covered in...cancer?, trapped working for a horrible creature from elsewhere, not sure if that's better than being tied to a post.
And I've been tied to a post.
The Mad Scientist has priorities, of course.
Poor Bruno...
Well...that was unexpected.
As was that...
Back in a jif folks, need lunch.
Please...please no Bosom Beasts...
Classy!
No boobs for you, readers.
It's like that game Rampage, come to life!
I wonder if those beasts of old could taste the difference between virgin and non-virgin sacrifices.
For good measure.
No..no. If even a little bit of his jibberish was interpreted correctly, he came to our world to impregnate wimmin folk.
Mad Scientist mackin' madly.
>>84565209
>Rampage
Damn, I spend a lot of coins on that.
Good times.
Artstyle reminds me of Hellboy 1954 stories, fuck, Goon reminds me of Hellboy, maybe they're in the same universe, who knows....
>>84565962
There not but they did have a cross over
>>84565962
There's actually a crossover.
>>84566078
>>84566083
really, I read through most Hellboy but ages ago, can you remember the issue?
>>84560582
>US LIBERALS, HUH?
>>84566111
It's a Goon issue. 7.
>>84566186
thanks, gotta check it out
bump, where's the goon at?
>>84569917
Story time finished, m8.
Might piggy back off OP and do an issue, anything you want to see?
rise
>>84564950
i've seen this posted a bunch of times in "sad co" thread, without context.it's worse with context
>>84573004
Yeah
Folks I didn't expect to be pulled away like I was otherwise I would've said something. I didn't expect this thread to still be up, but since it is, and since I got good news earlier, I will continue posting in 10 minutes.
My good news is, I'm not going to be a daddy. Thank all the various deities I shouted obscenities to a few weeks ago.
The world is not prepared for my hellish offspring.
Speaking of Hellish Offspring, here's the Goon Crossover with Hellboy!
Wut's all this then?
>>84573493
Congrats and thanks for the story time.
If your kid's first gun isn't a repro Thompson I will be upset at you.
What the deuce?!
>>84573561
No problem. I felt the world needed more weirdness, and more people should read The Goon. Then when the eventual CGI movie comes out, it'll do as well as Deadpool and Hollywood will continue mining R-Rated material.
That and it's a damn good read.
Mobster style or military style Thompson?
I'm not overly familiar with cartoons these days, is there a series where weird as hell shit occurs and everyone treats it as everyday occurrences like the folks in the Nameless Berg do in The Goon?
Dammit Frankie, you could make an enemy out of ANY good guy.
Soo....any Hellboy aficionados wanna clue me in onto who he thought Spider was?
Talking giant spider? Beat the hell outta it.
Cat...demon...thing? asking for help? Sure why not.
It's like the Dunwich Horror, but with floating mollusks.
Classic Franky.
And ya can't argue with results.
Sooo...does this make it into Hellboy's canon, or is it just a wacky story?
This issue got my mom interested in The Goon.
Odd as hell, given she's a Holy Roller type. Whatever works I guess.
The following 2 pages appear to be Eric Powell showing his disdain for comic book hipsters.
Heh.
My mom saw this lone issue out, flipped open to this page at one point and picked it up.
She *was* going to be offended as she was a huge Anne Rice fan. Then she read the rest and was satisfied. Go figure.
Quick backstory on this vampire since I didn't post the "Rough Stuff" TPB of the Goon.
Neil here jumped down on Goon and Franky, Goon knocked his teeth out. Then for fun they tied him to the hood of their car, set him on fire, and drove to Norton's Bar.
Good times.
But DAMN can that Powell guy draw good.
Cue sad trombone.
Mm...Goon speaks wisely.
Never buy homemade jerky from anyone you're not on a first name basis with.
That's just good sense.
>>84574217
>tfw get jerky at every gunshow I go to from hairy fellas who may or may not smell like fish
I'm pretty sure this is how patient zero for zombieism or ebola starts but damn if it's not cheap and good.
>>84574329
...are you at least on a first name basis with said vendors?
The only question I have about this whole thing is...why was Franky driving a bus?
I'm sure that ref deserved it.
>>84564408
I think the point was that the Zombie Priest was just as bad as all the others they just killed and he only joined the Goon's forces because he was an outcast and didn't want people encroaching on what he thought was his. Zombie Priest had never been remorseful of his actions and it was pretty clear that he'd probably end up resuming his campaign from the beginning of the comic. He was pitiful, sure, but I never saw him as anything close to sympathetic. The Goon was just exterminating the last cockroach in the town before he left.
