All emotional moments rely on music that may or may not fit and feel hamfisted.

I agree that Rick Potion #9 is the best, mainly because of how weird, surrealist and Twilight Zone-ish it is.
I think the show softened on that surrealist edge in Season 2 and became somewhat of a more formulaic animated comedy show. It needs to go back to being weird as fuck with a nihilistic theme.
