KFP1 I feel was a better movie about a person trying to be the thing they wanted despite how the world viewed them than Zootopia. Judy was a great cop from the get go, where as Po fucking sucked and spent the entire movie working up to the point where he finally succeeded.

Po is shown repeatedly as a big fan of kung fu and the furious 5, mimicking their moves and techniques (but having trouble doing so with his physique), the Master instructs him on how to control his body, allowing him to control it a little better. Similarly, as others pointed out Po's style is defensive in the movie, he does very little actual combat.

I still like the KFP movies but they are definitely lacking in the writing department. In some ways they remind me of what I imagine Zootopia was going through before they re-imagined it. The characters in KFP for the most part are shit because they have so little screen time and they're almost all there for the purpose of getting jobbed so that Po can save the day. The Hero's Journey trope has been played out to death, too.
In some ways I felt that the TV show made a lot of improvements over the movie. The other characters weren't completely useless and they actually had pretty distinct personalities and screen time to develop them. Po gets a bit more grating than he is in the movies after a while, in the bad kids' show writing way (he spends about half of the show fixing his own fuckups).
The movies just plain seem to have been at a loss for how to handle an ensemble cast, and from the outset they were stuck with the extremely limiting formula of "the chosen one will save the world and his friends are just there to help." I have no idea if they're planning to make more movies, but I feel like 3 is as good a place as any to stop. Maybe with a little luck they'll bring KFP back to TV at some point.

I didn't expect anything from KFP3 and was still somewhat let down.
It had it's moments and the animation was still good, but overall an absolutely forgetable experience, especially when compared to KFP and KFP2. My main gripe with the movie was the bad guy. Kai did have a lot of potential to be great, but instead of fleshing out his gripe with Oogway and their different approaches to Kung Fu, we got lolsofanny panda village. The whole duality theme and Ying and Yang just gets shit on when instead of mastering both ways of the Kung Fu, Ki and physical combat, Po goes full out SSJ and magics Kai away in the most anti climactic fight of the series. The 'It only works on living people' asspull didn't help either, just let Kai take the blow and brush it off. That way it would have been established how much of a bigger threat Oogways ex-companion is, compared to Tai Lung. They paid a little more to Jackie Chan, so monkey got a few more lines instead of awkwardly standing around all the time, that was ok, I guess.
