I liked it for the zaniness, but it wasn't the most intelligent comedy. There were gems here and there. It's not really anything special, but I don't think you'd regret watching it. If nothing else, you can enjoy the voice acting; it was pretty funny stuff.
>>
Got the complete box set last month and I've been having a good time with it. Of course, Angry Beavers is one of those shows I loved as a kid to the point of it affecting parts of my vocabulary.

When I was a kid I remember outright finding Samurai Jack and Hey Arnold boring.

You gotta remember there is a reason why "good cartoons" fail horribly with kids where meanwhile Teen Titans Go and Uncle Grandpa are being on permanent rerun when nothing new is showing. Kids lack taste and cartoons were made (or at least should be) for kids.

Adult humor and such is great and all but at the end of the day if the kid hates it then the cartoon failed as a cartoon.

I appreciate it for hammering home the concept that cartoons have flexible continuity. I distinctly remember watching that one episode where Norbert literally bops Daggett back into prehistoric times, and they just end on that; no resolution to it, just onto the next episode. >But what does this have to do with "nowadays"??
Trends and narration styles change over the decade, this days most people search for series with a more "Regular Show" or "Adventure Time" style of narration, Angry Beavers is not a bad series, but not everyone in today's public will find it as funny or interesting as it was when it was first released.

One of the things that really stood out for me was the voice acting - but really, the Brazilian version. Dagget was voiced by Guilherme Briggs, a kind of a meme voice actor because he puts way too much quirks into his acting but is still the most versatile (and famous) guy around here for voicing the likes of Superman, Optimus Prime and Buzz Lightyear. All that to mention he's stated a few times his favorite role ever was voicing Dagget, and it shows. It's fucking perfect, even more than his Freakazoid. And there's the chemistry with Alexandre Moreno (Norbert), they fit perfectly

Briggs has a great serious tone, but I can't get around to like it. His super-serious Optimus doesn't sound right. Not sure if because it sounds forced or because we've been spoiled by his comedy roles where he truly shines, Briggs' work in Freakazoid (which was his first role IIRC) is amazing.

Even back then when it was new you could see why it wasnt going to last. It had great characters, the universe they were in was ok but needed work to survive but overall they just took something that had potential and got rid of it because there wasnt that immediate toys R us action figure super popular fandom reaction to it. At least thats my interpretation of it, back then. Id love to see a reboot or a complete remake but keep 80% of the character design choices and actually make it work for the small but loyal fans. Man... i miss that show.

Even so, he can be really terrible to Dag even when Dag isn't doing anything to him, like he just likes to be condescending for the sake of it.

At least the people in the show were completely aware of this and gave Norb the ocassional retribution so one wouldn't feel Dag was the one always having it bad.

that shit right there. the dialogue, all of the ending words on "oi" or "eh". that's funny when you're 15 but not when you're 30

Mmm real hard to say. Before I would slightly lean Dag due to his shenanigans but now I may lean Norb due to his sarcastic 4th wall breaking stuff that I wouldn't have noticed before

Then again Norb could be an asshole and Dag is usually way more disciplined (in terms of wanting to get the job done), supportive, and sometimes wise (though Norb did have supportive moments too)

There were also bits where Dag was treated like crap by the other cast...but then you would get stuff like him broing it up with Barry and his band

It depends on the episode really

Angry Beavers was a little funny in that regard. By comparison, in Ed Edd n Eddy, despite being the most sympathetic the Eds almost exclusively ended up being the worst off for whatever plot happened. Angry Beavers was more random. Often both Beavers were the butt of the joke, one may get it more than the other, and sometimes they even ended up on top, getting back at whoever bothered them.

Interestingly I still think Dag is a bit better. As much as he can be selfish and sometimes outright malicious, it' mostly in a childish manner, jut like everything else he does in other situations (pajamas, arm buoys, teddy bear, etc). He is clearly immature and his naivety is endearing. Norb is also great but exactly for the opposite reason, being clearly self-aware of his selfishness and often taking advantage of Dag, which makes him morally "worse" IMO.
