That's not the only time it looks like he has trunks in this book. You can totally tell that the artist was really frustrated about Supes not having trunks, so as a result his groin looks super shadowy throughout the book.

And Supes proportions are more like classic Superman than Nu52 Superman.
Yeah, this Superman is technically the old one, but he's still mostly drawn lean like the Nu52 one.
Except here where he looks like a brick shithouse.
