Thanos Imperative was retconned so Bendis could have all the characters he wanted.
There was an Ultimate book where he called a character three different names, because he forgot. I also forget which book it was.
AvX he forgot Rachel existed. And also forgot past precedent actually makes the Pheonix Force a positive, as it only actually went 'dark' when fucked with. It was Bendis's show, I can blame him for that.

It started off well enough, the excuse for getting all of the characters together and fighting each other was mildly contrived but it worked okay.
Then the last couple issues went full retard. Ultimate Doom showed up for now real reason but turned out to be a Doombot, then Scarlet Witch brought in the 712 version of Squadron Supreme which massively derailed the story, then Fury unleashes Hulk on everyone and it just becomes a big free-for-all.
Fury is labeled as the bad guy, gets thrown in prison on Supreme Power Earth and Zarda stays with the Ultimates which didn't amount to much.
I think the first few issues were penned by JMS, then Bendis took over halfway through and it really shows.

I don't think it was retconned to give Bendis the characters he wanted. It was more, it was retconned because two movie characters and the main big bad of the movies were dead because of it and they needed to come back.
Bendis has made it very clear all the characters he wants for GotG are: Kitty Pryde.
