I'm still a little surprised at how many webcomic artists fail to improve their art even after so many years. It's like theirs this group of creators that managed to achieve success in spite of their sub-par art, and because it's now their full time job, they have to focus on keeping to their update schedule and don't actually have the time for the practice they'd need to improve.

You can overcome a physical dependence. It's just annoying and crappy(usually). What usually gets you is that alcohol becomes your main coping mechanism to stress. Part of beating that aspect is avoiding knowingly placing yourself in situations that willtriggerthe urge to drink. Also developing other mechanisms for handling stress.
Faye does neither of these things, so she doesn't even get points for trying, as far as I'm concerned.I've been through the DTs. Two years sober after that hell. Well that's because the ability to deliver the goods semi-consistently kinda trumps being a spectacular artist in practice and most people that read webcomics do so for the story moreso than the art. The art is sort of a placeholder that says "that's a tree" or "that's a back alley". As long as people understand that it is supposed to be a tree or a back alley then the art has done its job. Spectacular art is a good thing as well but it isn't as important to the longevity of a series as the story and getting the story out the door. Real artists ship, after all.
