What are some recommended Archie comics?
Life With Archie/The Married Life
Afterlife With Archie
Chilling Tales of Sabrina
Disregard the recent reboot.
And just grab some of the Archie Digest next time you're in the checkout lane.

>Disregard the recent reboot
Those are some of the best comics on the stands today.
Archie/Punisher
Archie/Predator
>>84194060
>>84194417
Most of those are not good Archie stories unless you've familiarized yourself with the basic premise by reading stuff like this: >>84194353
>>84193999
Almost anything from the 50s through 1983 was at least decent.
explain:
who was archie fuckin? the dark haired one right?

>Disregard the recent reboot.
Fuck. You.
>>84194629
Archie was a virgin until he got married. And he married both of them.
>>84194654
Is it good? Are the other books within the 'New Riverdale' universe good?
>>84193999
Outdated, but still decent.
>>84194710
WHAT? he's banging them both and married to them both?
Based
>>84194756
The universe itself could not determine who was better for Based Archie and literally split so that he could exist in two worlds simultaneously and marry them both.
Anyone else hype for the new Josie series.
http://www.ew.com/article/2016/06/08/josie-pussycats-comic-reboot
>According to Archie Comics, the new series will feature Josie uniting the band to take their big shot at musical stardom, only to contend with the machinations of Alexandra Cabot, the ever-Machiavellian daughter of the Pussycats’ manager.
I wonder if they will bring back the fact that Alexandra is a witch like Sabrina.

Are the old Josie comics any good?
>>84194710
>Is it good? Are the other books within the 'New Riverdale' universe good?
I don't really read Jughead but the main Archie book is really great. It's one of my favorite monthlies.
>>84194962
If you like the old Archie comics with a little bit of scooby doo mixed in its very good.
But personally I liked the animated series better also enjoy animated series 480p

Alexandra>Melody>Josie>Valerie
Anything written by Frank Doyle between 1960-1980, which is about 75% of them.
>>84194962
It's basically all Frank Doyle and Dan DeCarlo up until the book goes giant sized at issue 56 and they start bringing in other writers and artists but even then there's some standout spooky mystery material.
Also Valerie and the band don't become a thing until issue 40-something.
>>84194060

Kill yourself, please.
Do you guys remember when Archie had to beat off a few guys to save Betty?
Pepridge Farms does....
>>84194940
>>84194917
I miss Pepper.
>>84195794
Why not? At best one should only read it after familiarizing themselves with the rest because the point of the reboot is to have a "fresh new artstyle".

>>84194654
>>84194106
Did something happen?
Because I read the first few issues and it was garbage.

Nigger are you even familiar with what Archie is? That's their whole shtick.
>>84197104
>The whole book is basically how do you do fellow kids.jpg
To be fair, Archie comics have always been that way - written, drawn and edited by mildly bitter middle-aged war vets who were often estranged from their own teenage offspring, many of which are dead now, save for Bob Bolling.

If only Emo's and scenesters didint ruin the skunk stripe Its a great looking style but can be done wrong so many ways.
some the only good examples i can think of Are Rogue and Alexandra
>>84200802
Why did I make this edit?
>>84193999
Not really a recommendation, but there's the 1000-page series, which collects choice cuts from the most recent issues of Archie digests into one volume.
There's also the smaller "Giant" 480-page series if you feel that the former is too damn big.
Pic related is most recent volume in 1000-page seriesDan Parent a shit. Why couldn't he have gotten fired instead of Fernando Ruiz?
>>84200844
I find it more believable that Melody is completely Bi and just wants to bang what ever she finds attractive.
Alexandra on the other hand I could see going total Lezbo after trying to seduce Alan so many times and being cock blocked by his attraction to Josie.

Is Sabrina: The Magic Within collected in color? I once found the first volume but it was in black and white.
Who else first got exposed to Archie stuff from the cartoons? For me it was Archie's Weird Mysteries, the Josie and the Pussycats cartoon and Sabrina: The Animated Series.

The era in the '70s to '83 where they were a publicly held company and relaxed some of their more prudish S&P policies was a particularly good time for stories and art.

Jughead is absolute trash right now. Every time I think of that first issue, it makes me want to kill myself. It's getting a new creative team on issue 9, though, along with the introduction of Sabrina into New Riverdale.

>>84201819
For me, it was the live-action Sabrina show, which was a damn sight better than it had any right to be... except for when she went off to college.
I have decided to read some archie comics I have a question why were there comics of archie marrying 2 difrent people published at the same time was one an elseworlds type thing or something
>>84207380
It's weird most stuff we bite peoples heads off if they dident know it was a comic first but Sabrina gets a free pass I wonder why that is.

Ah that makes sense
>>84207447
Probably because we have a lot of people on /co/ who grew up in the 90s, and watched the show before they knew it was a comic; that's certainly true for me, but I'm a britbong and we never had Archie Comics over here, although I recall they did try selling reprints of the original comic over here, but because it wasn't based off of the show I'm pretty sure it sank without a trace.
Shame, but there it is.
Archie Comics are BIG in Canada and India...they were also a big deal in Mexico and Latin America for decades until the 21st century.
They were also moderately popular in Scandinavia, Australia and Apartheid-era South Africa.
Archie was/is barely known in France and Belgium, where the comics underwent translation titled "Robert et Brigitte" in the early 70s.
Dolly got on a trolley, by golly
Gus got on a bus w/ no fuss
OP here, I got the first volume of the Best of Archie digitally to read on my tablet, the first volume of Afterlife with Archie, and used a 4th of July coupon code to buy their 'bundles' of the first 8 issues of the new Archie and the first 4 of Jughead for like 25 bucks.
How'd I do?

Not OP but which Archie: The Best Of should I get first? Should I get volume 1 of Decarlo?
>>84209866

Yes. He is THE Betty and Veronica artist. Just like how Harry Lucey is THE Archie artist and Samm Schwartz is THE Jughead artist.
>>84209866
>Should I get volume 1 of Decarlo?
It's as god a place to start as any. DeCarlo mostly worked on Betty and Veronica. Schwartz did Jughead and Lucey was the main Archie artist.

Sounds good.

Probably because the comic takes more from the 90's tv show then the 90's tv show takes from the old comics.
pre-90's Sabrina (with the exception of her origin issue) was a good witch raised by her aunt and uncle that dated Harvey.
90's Sabrina is a typical teenage girl (or preteen depending on the series) raised by her Aunts who has a wisecracking cat (Salem didn't talk before the 90's, though I think this was a 90's comic addition rather then tv show addition)and deals with problems growing up. Harvey is just one of her beau's.
Pre-tv show and post tv show Sabrina might as well be different characters!
>>84216591
>was a good witch raised by her aunt and uncle that dated Harvey
>>84215481
She wasn't so much good as not quite as evil as her family wanted her to be, and Ambrose was a cousin not uncle. Plus they didn't really do anything to make the cast resemble the comic versions.
>>84216871
I don't think you meant to quote me. I'm >>84215481
>>84216871
no, before the 90's there was a sort of Casper-esque relationship with Witches being evil and Sabrina being good. The typical Sabrina plot involved doing good deeds much to the chagrin of her family or the witch's council. Her origin issue hinted she was just as evil as other witches but that was dropped rather quickly.
After the 90's she became a regular teenager.
Though I did forget about Ambrose being a cousin since he acts so much like Uncle Arthur from Bewitched.
>>84201107
fernando ruiz got fired? that's a shame
>>84209754
It's all the same fucking degeneracy
>>84217057
>The typical Sabrina plot involved doing good deeds much to the chagrin of her family or the witch's council
It would have been more like shame than chagrin and Della the head witch was their version of a council.
This is Sabrina from #21, 1974.

Looking through the few Sabrina book I've got saved the "typical" stories are Sabrina screwing up, helping people on the sly or being helped out by Hilda or Ambrose.
what issues of sabrina are good, besides the collections?
>>84219876
If you like the last few stories then anything from volume 1. Or go for the 90s stuff if you want something that resembles the show slightly more,
Here's Sabrina being a sadistic bitch, courtesy of notorious wackadoo Al Hartley.
I don't have the rest of the story on me ("Gay Blades" from Reggie and Me #54), but from my recollection, Reggie was literally doing nothing wrong except showing off his skating moves.
When I said earlier that Hartley was an dangerously insane madman, I meant it. Dude had ties with the John Birch Society and nearly threw Dan DeCarlo from a twelve-story window for not saying "God bless you" when he sneezed.
Of course nobody will believe me...your loss.
>Christian witches
