>constant hiatus
>episodes like barn mates were finished in November last year but weren't released for another 6 months
>no regular schedule

Will cartoon network actually kill off this show? What will they have on their network after they axe it? Will Rebecca and her illustrious end game for the show ever happen? Was the peak of this show's popularity the bomb in January, it seem it's been dwindling in hype ever since the homeworld gems have gotten attention.

>mfw they actually think chunks are better than a stream

>>
>>84157717
It's all bullshit, honestly. All these excuses of "it's competitive programming" and "maximum viewership" holds no water when your hiatuses exceed the point where your fucking show has left the collective hive mind of American viewership. And don't even get me started about CN Europe's consistent fuck ups over leaking heavy spoilers or, most recently, airing entire episodes before the country of fucking origin premieres them.

Fuck CN. Fuck Coporate. Fuck my shit up.
>>
My question is, why aren't they putting out other merchandise for this show? Attack of the Light or whatever sold well right? People obviously want to buy fucking toys of these characters.

CN can't just keep using the "It didn't sell any toys" when they don't fucking put out the goddamn toys!
>>
Just put out another game. It can be the cheapest iPhone shit you could ever make and I'd still play it. Anything to convince them to stop fucking over the series like this.
>>
>>84158017
You don't get it anon, if they put out another game then people will want more episodes, but they can't give them more episodes because none of the other merchandise is selling, but they can't sell more merchandise because then people will want to buy it, and they can't let people buy it or else they'll want more episodes, and it just keep going and going and going until Young Justice Season 2 happens again.

In all bluntness. Cartoon Network cannot into episodic scheduling.

They always air "Jail Break" BEFORE "The Return" in reruns. Like "Holy shit, you CANNOT be this bad at scheduling!"
>>
How long would this show have lasted if it was regularly scheduled, it seems fairly popular.
>>
Nah, they're not gonna kill it, It's simple hype milking, ratings were around 1.4 during 2015, fast forward to the latest Steven bomb and it reached 1.8 and it's the most popular show with the 12 and beyond demographic during premieres. It works, no matter how many anons post "too much wait killed my interest", it works.

Doesn't make it any less shitty but watcha you gonna do about it?, it's business.

The main theory is that bombs create more word of mouth. No one talks about the show around the metaphorical water cooler unless there is an exceptional event such as a bomb.

It might last as long as Regular Show or Adventure Time.

They are the longest running Cartoon Network originals of all time.

This show would've been so much better off as a Netflix original. Not only because of the elimination of scheduling and greater creative control, but also because it would probably already be over by now and would serve as a plain old good example of serialized cartoons and not some inching-along golden calf for people to get too overhyped about.

Which have reportedly been having supply issues because of how well they're selling. I don't really get CN's angle here, the last bomb had more than one episode as #1 in ratings in the 12-34 demo, it was the most watched show on the network every night, and the merchandise is selling despite largely questionable quality.

They're standing on a potential mountain of cash, I don't understand.

It appears that for most CN shows that aren't fucked around by hiatuses (and it's more than SU that gets fucked around by hiatuses), have a roughly 1.5-2 month buffer between episodes: A lot of CN Shows start really advertising two months before they premier, for example, and The first episode copyrighted 2014 (So Many Birthdays) ended up airing during march that year (though it probably could've aired late february while still being in comfortable range of the buffer)

Most of season 1A (Gem Glow-Rose's Room) aired during CN's old way of scheduling premiers: have episodes weekly but throw in the occasional week or so without an episode here n there (with there being times when only one episode aired during a month and winter hiatuses still being a thing), and different shows premiered on different days of the week (AT and RS were monday, UG was moved from Monday to Tuesday when SU premeired, SU was moved from Monday to Wednesday when Clarence premiered): The buffer was probably at the norm then, maybe on the larger side of the norm. Before all the premiers for the 2nd half of May 2014 were pulled, Coach Steven and Joking Victim were originally scheduled for then (and so was the premier of UG season 1B).

June '14 marked the beginning of a new way of CN scheduling shows, with all flagship shows premiering on thursdays, and shows cycling between having blocks of weekly premiers and hiatus. The two shows that got the short end of the stick were UG and SU. The amount of time between when episodes would be 3-3.5 months (Coach Steven and Joking Victim ended premiering in august, Horror Club was meant to be the Halloween episode and aired near valentines day). If it weren't for the first stevenbomb, The Message (the first episode copyrighted 2015) would've aired mid April. The buffer would've been even bigger than that, as the crew had confirmed late july 2014 that episode 36 had finished and the 36th episode didn't air until the start of january
>>
>>84160021
>>
Legit question to the fans in the thread. What keeps you going? How are you holding out hope for this show? Waifus? Fan art? Generals? Genuinely curious here.
>>
>>84160156
Since there IS a break in production between seasons, the buffer instantly shrank when the went to the next season without a hiatus. 5 season 2 episodes premiered (with 3 season 1 episodes mixed in) premiered from mid march to late april (if we go purely by episode number, then the 53rd-57th episodes to air all premiered in april): a 6 week hiatus occured after than (building up back some of the buffer, though these episodes would've still premiered around then had the summer hiatus of '14 not happened). For June and July of '15, instead of weekly episodes, off of cN's flagship shows had bombs. while most shows had one bomb and thus had 5-6 episodes premier during that 9 week period, SU had two bombs, resulting in a whopping 10 episodes: the 2nd steven bomb was the 7th week, if the episodes had remained weekly after Reformed, Friend Ship would've premiered a week before it actually did (it should be noted that the shorts collectively took an episode production slot).
>>
>>84160022

Like junkies, make em wait for the next dose and they will do anything to get it faster.
>>
>>84160173
Then is probably when the buffer would've been at its smallest: One of the composers mentioned that Friend Ship premiered less than a month after the score (one of the last steps in production) was composed and at least one of the crew members was publicly hoping for a hiatus. It should be noted that Sadie's Song has an unusual place in production order: Raven and Paul are the main boarders for both "creepy" episodes (including Gem Mutant ones) and Lars and Sadie episodes, and production codes are in a board team pattern, so Sadie's Song is a month later than Nightmare Hospital (which itself is immediately adjacent to Friend Ship) production wise. While the crew simply stated "boring production reasons", it's entirely possible that the reason why the original August premiers were delayed was because someone pointed out that Sadie's Song (which was originally scheduled where it was in production order, after Back to the Barn) was meant to be after Nightmare Hospital and they realized that the episode would've either not been finished or JUST out of the oven by the time the week after Nightmare Hospital's original premier rolled around. (vaguely unrelated, but Steven's Birthday is in the exact same situation production code wise, coming between Log Date and Super Watermelon Island)

Whatever happened, The buffer for the episodes was probably on the larger side of the normal size or just a little bigger than that. Then after a few more episodes, a 2 1/2 month hiatus (containing the normal slightly less than a month Winter Hiatus) happened. As a promo snafu demonstrated, Barn Mates was finished before early january, though probably JUST beforehand, as Hit the Diamond was the first episode copyrighted 2016 (which means that it could've definitely aired last March, probably last february even). The episode buffer we have right now is huge and possibly even larger than the one we had back during season 1B. Hopefully the summer of steven involves multiple bombs.

I just want to see how the Diamonds fight.

I know that the show will have to return eventually, and I both really enjoy it and the discussions that arise from it. I also never give up hope for things or people, so this isn't any different. I'm positive that CN will eventually see how much potential it has, and not only adopt a suitable schedule but also release actually decent merchandise.

As for what's holding me out through all of this, there's still a surprisingly large breadth of discussion to be had, when it is to be had.

The lore of Steven Universe is quite simple.

Long ago some Gems from an alternate timeline traveled back in time to 1941 with a Raspberry Pi, small screen, and SD card loaded with important Wikipedia articles and scientific documents to warn the Nazis of British decryption and computer technology, their coming failure in Russia, and the US's development of the atomic bomb. Of course, these ensuing events did not happen as we know them to have happened - the arrival of Gems on Earth thousands of years prior set history on a very unique course. Now, with the Third Reich successful, the Nazis then took to space and were never seen or heard from again. The defeated Soviet Union also faded from the world thus preventing the Space Race from ever happening as well the rise of Putin.

And that's how Equestria was made.
>>
>>84158578

The only reason CN does this has to be because of the lesbo issues it brings up. It'd make sense if the show wasn't wholy owned by them or something but that isn't the case.

>Will cartoon network actually kill off this show?
It's the second hottest thing they got after TTGo when they actually decide to air new episodes.

The thing is, they want to AVOID killing the show for as long as possible.
Basically, they're stalling to try and drag out what they have for as long as possible.
For instance, by splitting S2 into two seasons, they had an excuse for an overly long break in the middle of that season.
And now they can actually market them as seperate seasons and get more out of what was supposed to be one season from an ad perspective.

Sugar doesn't seem like the type to let her show become a zombie, and CN probably knows that.
And if they can't just keep shoveling out episodes forever like they do with Go!, instead they're going to drag out what episodes they can get for as long as they think they can push it.
>>
>>84162813
>It's the second hottest thing they got after TTGo when they actually decide to air new episodes
Is it?
>>
>>84162912
Not 100% sure on the tv ratings, but if you check stuff like google charts to look at their internet buzz,
the spikes they get during bombs not only are severly higher than the majority of CN shows that get regular airing schedules, and those spikes actually don't even fall down far below those regular schedules during the times between.
>>
>>84162912
no actually every too deep premier episode scored more ratings then every other CN show. Pretty sure even regular show got more ratings than TTG, likely because it aired right after the new SU episode.
>>
CN is just fucking up lately. They have had no actual contact with their content creators in over a year, they cancel shows before letting the creators know, they put SU on a constant hiatus despite the fact that episodes are already available, leaks almost always happen by their hand, and they can't even work well with their foreign offices.
What the fuck is going on?
>>
>>84163147
They're a business that would rather look at positive graphs than listen to their fans, and the internet fandom of this show is a fraction of the targeted viewership so leaks are completely meaningless and do not affect viewership.
>>
>>84162212
>Raspberry Pi, small screen, and SD card loaded with important Wikipedia articles and scientific documents to warn the Nazis of British decryption and computer technology, their coming failure in Russia, and the US's development of the atomic bomb.

Are you literally dumb? A simple smartphone (like an Alcatel Onetouch Pixi 3) would have been easier.

>And that's how Equestria was made.
You son of a fucking bitch.
>>
>>84161973
At the end of the day it's still a business, and like any sane business, they need to make a profit, and if that means fully backing a show that must be incredibly cheap to produce over one that takes more time and money, then you can't really blame them.
>>
>>84163197
I can when the only way to get said money back from the cheap show is by showing it on a near constant basis because it wouldn't get enough views otherwise.
>>
>>84163197
except its not like shit like SU is even that expensive to produce when you compare it to shows like Gravity Falls or something

The entire 15 minute run time model is designed around cutting costs and shifting more and more of the burden of the work onto the under payed storyboarders, I doubt they could actually cut costs anymore unless they decided to make the show just storyboard stills with voice over and not have an animation budget at all
>>
The av club has an entire article explaining the bomb format and why they switched to it. Short answer is the ratings are better now so they keep doing it. It's why they're starting to do this with their other shows too.
>>
>>84163441
Didn't it only get top ratings for the first 2? IIRC, the last 2 bombs did horrible, ratings wise.
>>
>>84163441
when was the last time they even did a bomb though?

the last SU one was almost 6 months ago

besides even it does help ratings in the short term there is no way these hiatuses without even communicating when the show will return aren't slowly bleeding viewers out of the fanbase
>>
>>84157717
Good, fuck your literal gay show.
>>
People are bound to run out of Peridot and Bob fanart ideas sometime, give it another 6 months
>>
The only good things to come out of the hiatuses are Matt trying to suck CNs dick on twitter.

>>
It honestly feels like they're trying to keep the show from getting too popular.

Like, they want it to be profitable, but not big enough to be a defining force on the network.
>>
>>84160168
I watch the Venture Bros. These hiatuses are annoying but not bad at all compared to getting 10 episodes every 2-3 years.
>>
>>84160168
Having a life.
>>
>>84164018
Maybe the reason push TTG and PPG so much now is because they're trying to only have episodic comedies aimed at a younger audience. AT's also largely gotten the shaft, especially in reruns, despite pulling in better ratings lately, receiving widespread critical acclaim, like it or hate it's gotten a lot of praise from critics and being a merchandising cash cow. Don't forget all of the action or story-oriented shows that they've cancelled in the last few years. Could be that corporate's directing them towards a younger audience for some reason, it would certainly explain the bumpers with the kids.

Which is kind of dumb, seeing as how the channel pulls in a ton of the 12-34 demographic, which is coveted for having their parents' money to spend early on and their own money to spend while they're less careful about it. At least it's an explanation.

I still can't really fathom that we've been several weeks into this and humanity has never acted upon their deep distrust of extraterrestrials and the whole invasion narrative that has been making people shit themselves for decades.

>no military occupation of beach city in the face of alien meddling and a whole ship crashing through the atmosphere
>no human political objections to an alien civil war resuming on their planet
>no human "superweapon" attempts to surpass or nullify gem tech
>no human attempts to create "artificial" gems

Isn't the neat thing about humans in a narrative that they'll fight in the face of insurmountable odds? The humans in Steven Universe seem to just be there to be subjected to shit, rather than offer any push back to gem decisions.

There's literally nothing cooler than humanity fighting against the invasion force. And no cooler a way to actually hype up the enemy as a threat. Case in point:

The fact that they updated today of all days, with a bunch of episode titles from a leaked list, is pretty exciting though! Obviously the date's wrong, but I'm thinking this really does mean that we'll hear an announcement soon!

CN's internal politics are petty as fuck.
same reason DC nation got the thorough buttfucking it did.
Petty infighting an power plays are slowly killing the company, unlike Nickelodeon which is hyperfocused on milking spongebob and cancels any show that doesn't pull it's numbers in the first week or disney who just flat out gives no fucks

>CN's internal politics are petty as fuck.

Got any news or info about this, or is that just rumors? They've been acting really strangely lately.
>>
>>84157891
This. Most people tend to move on rather quickly, especially kids (that are still a big part of the audience) who have a different sense of time than adults, who grow up and who experience a lot of changes during that age.

It's pretty normal that many will forget or stop caring about shows that barely air, I don't know who came up with this shitty theory. There is only so much you can talk about a series without new content and you are constantly exposed to a shit-ton of other cartoons, anime, games and so on so it's only natural that people will slowly get more and more interested in other characters and series.
>>
>>84169989
It follows patterns going back decades across various channels. It's been shown time and time again that when senseless, money-losing decisions are made at big networks, e especially regarding cartoons, more often than not it's the result of petty rivalries or the wrong head honcho "not liking the show" rather than a legitimate strategic mistake.

nothing confirmed, but it sounds like everyone who's in charge is constantly jockeying for more power and are willing to fuck creators over if it means they could get more power.
then you've got straight up malicious shit like how they put GLTAS on hiatus without informing the people working on the show (and not even changing the schedules to reflect it) and their hateboner for Gendy.
seems like SU could be getting the same treatment, with leaks probably being intentionally done by a CN exec who thinks getting the show fucked over could get him promoted/make him look good
>>
>>84170036
I'm not saying that you're wrong, but at the moment isn't that just conjecture? From what we can gather most of the content creators involved with CN are just as in the dark about things as we are, there's no way that they hate or have a feud with literally their entire IP segment.
>>
>>84170109
Oh, certainly, if you're looking for concrete evidence, there is almost nothing to go on. All of this is pure conjecture; extremely likely conjecture, but conjecture nonetheless.
>>
>>84170109
just look at how the entire DC Nation block was treated.
The mother company was forcing CN and DC to work together and CN did everything in their power to kill the block

>>84157717
The characters and settings is good, but the show need better writing, not that it's bad or anything, it's just that I think that the story should improve more. Also, they should consider making the show 30-minutes long because most of the episode feel kind of rushed. To me, Steven Universe feels like it should be a half-hour show instead of 15-minutes.
