This whole idea was stupid. Dinosaur Land is little more than an unsettled part of the Mushroom World and the writers at DiC had the idea that meant it was either the past or the land that time forgot. Which ultimately lead to Super Flintstones Bros. half the time.

With no more random one-shot characters like SMBSS and no mushroom kingdom/real world citizens like SMB3, the SMW needed some type of supporting cast to it for plot reasons, a group of innocents to try and keep safe from Koopa, as well as a consistent means of interaction outside the main characters in order to move the story forward.
Being Dinosaur Land- sorry, I mean "The Dinosaur World", cavemen were really the best option. The only alternative I can think of is a village of Yoshis, but that causes a few problems such as confusion with the main Yoshi and the fact that they aren't helpless.

This episode was confusing and disturbing all at once.
On one hand, it was an aesop about how fast food is bad for you and you should eat healthy. On the other hand, it also shows that Koopa has no real business sense with his master plan.
