Lance and Hunk had been at the Garrison for an unspecified amount of time before she started.
I'm about 1/3 through the series so far. I like it a lot overall, especially the animation and voice performances.
But holy hell was Rover's sacrifice a dumb moment. I get that it's an old trope, but it doesn't work when the sacrifice is carried out by something that never showed any more of a consciousness than a Roomba. The fact that "he" only had been helping Pidge because she literally made him certainly doesn't help.
They went for the "make you care about something you'd normally never care for" angle, but totally dropped the ball on giving any reason to care.
