Yeah, it was pretty allright but not that necessary. However it's milles better than Strikes Again and Master Race. Maybe because it's a very focused, ground-level Batman story instead of an ensemble of various DC heroes with Old Man Batman sprinkled in it here and there. But you should give credit to Azzarello too, he does the heavy lifting.

This books just fucking nailed everything. The art, the dialogue, the characterization, the abrupt ending instead of going with an overblown comic-style ending. Everything just works.
I also really feel like Year One, ASBAR, TDKR and so on work even better with this one shot, it just sort of ties the character development of this world's Bruce together really well.

that 'is' a pretty interesting question, and Batman is a pretty interesting example to work with, because we know he doesn't have any preternatural abilities, only those natural talents he has honed through years of training
so if we start with an incredibly fit young man, who from the age of 8 has been developing his physicality, then at 14 or so, goes off and learns from secret kung-fu masters and gourmet chefs, so that by the time he takes up the cowl is already battle-hardened and supple, and also learned in both healing techniques (aided by Alfred) and meditative pain-management; we end up with a guy who will be both incredibly resiliant due to his muscle mass deflecting damage, and capable of ignoring some of the hardest knocks
then if we borrow from real-world examples of fighting men from the S.A.S who have survived several tours, and little old ladies who can put up with all manner of injury as just being par for the course - these grannies refusing pain-killers so that they can be alert enough to look after the grandkids, employing the pain and even channeling it as a means to keep going - and couple that with the tenacious zealoutry of someone like Batman who is all about his fight for justice or w/e, and you have someone who even into his 70/80s would still outstrip a /co/mic book reading neckbeard in his 20s

No, 70's. He retires after Jason dies and doesn't fight crime for ten years. Since everything in DKR is very firmly 80's (David Letterman, Dr. Ruth, Reagan) in theory that means Last Crusade should take place in the 70's.
But that's moot since other comics ignore the fact that DKR takes place in the 80's. Spawn/Batman is very firmly post-Cold War, DK2 is early 00's, All Star Batman is kind of 00's. And if you want to count Holy Terror (since it was originally going to be part of the Miller Bat universe), that obviously takes place after Osama Bin Laden was killed since there's a line of dialogue that references it (and if you ignore that, there's also a reference to Michael Bay's Transformers so it'd be at least after 2007).

The difference between what Jason did and what Dick did back in All Star Batman is that Dick almost killed a ringless Hal Jordan (arguably he was defenseless at that time). Jason could arguably have hurt or killed the guy in self-defense because he was about to kill Batman and then was trying to look like he was shocked by it.
