Also, even if he knew how to fix critical injuries he would be physically incapable of doing so because he's a goddamn marshmallow with legs. There's still a lot to be contemplated on it though: in order for the Japanese to have such an influence rebuilding San Fran, there would have needed to be a larger, more deeply rooted Japanese population.
So a headcanon I play around with is that Japan opened it's ports earlier in the BH6-verse, in time for hundreds of thousands of Japanese to head to the West Coast of the US to partake in the California (and later Yukon) Gold Rush(es).
But then one wonders 'why would Japan open it's ports earlier?'.
A more autistic idea from this is:The reigning Shogunate was the Oda Shogunate instead of Tokugawa. Nobunaga in this timeline survived the assassination attempt and took control over Japan.Because of a future time travel plot where the BH6 themselves accidentally end up travelling back in time and inadvertently saving the Oda clan.

Actually, the whole time travel/assassination prevention would be kind of an accident.
But a shit load of people with spears, swords, bows, and even guns see you suddenly appear in the middle of their siege on a castle and assume you're on the side of the enemy, you gotta protect yourself.
Next thing they know, they're getting congratulated by Nobunaga as saviors of the Oda clan and each of them is beginning to realizing those "six mythical warriors" weren't so mythical afterall.
Also sudden relief when they realize time travel works on a "stable timeloop" system in this setting.

Creating a larger and more deeply rooted Asian, particularly Japanse population in circa-1906 San Francisco really doesn't take Japan being opened up earlier - Chinese were arriving in SF by the boatload by the time of the gold rush, after all, and plenty of Japanese arrived once they were allowed to leave (which wasn't concurrent with their ports being opened), it really has to do with America's acceptance of them. The first immigration restrictions in the country were aimed at Asian immigration, and they were often barred from attaining citizenship or marrying outside their race (which was troublesome, since many immigrants were unmarried men, who therefore had no spouse back home to bring over later and few women immigrants to choose from). That generally meant that many immigrants wound up returning home or dying childless, preventing the population from growing.
