Miles and Kamala are pet characters, Sam was one when Loeb was doing comics (Sam got a lot of preferential treatment in the beginning, he was even praised by other characters and made an Avenger for warning people of the incoming Phoenix although that was never acknowledged outside AvX) but once Loeb moved on they just kept Sam around as a courtesy to him but he doesn’t get the push that Kamala and Miles do because of Bendis and G Willow.
