I think Nickelodeon really dropped the ball by not making this into a full show, it was really good and I found it fucking hilarious.

Thoughts?
>>
>>83873724
I think it's less that it was a failed pilot and more that it was a short that could've been more if they pushed it.

nvm. Found a link.
If it did indeed fail, that's a real shame. It seems like the sort of cartoon I could get into. What with all the nature.

Sometimes it takes a long time for these things to get greenlit. It's been less than a year since the short was originally released, so it could still happen.

Buck 'n Lou and the Night Crew was also pretty neat, if a little hyperactive.

Wasn't Loud House a Nick Short back in 2013? There may be hope for Magic Children yet.

When's VICE gonna make cartoons? Their network is pretty great, surprisingly, and I'd totally support a Kablaam type program for MM&O, Habits, Blobby Boys, and whatever and Johnny Ryan does
>>
>>83882343
yeah i wish we had more kablam type shit, just letting less prolific cartoonists show their shit
>>
>>83873724
I dunno, the art style, humor, and even voice acting is so similar to a lot of shit that is on right now and really similar to a ton of other Nick pilots, it feels really generic to me. Just feels like some popular Tumblr artist's web comic in animation form.
>>
>>83882472
there's nothing wrong with seeming generic compared to a bunch of shit that was the opposite of generic in 2010 when it came out. nothing wrong with following the leader when the leader is good, as long as you actually do follow, rather than trying to follow but actually ending up nowhere near the same place.

VICE almost seems to be between two worlds of differing quality. They know quality when they see it, and happily cooperate with whatever creative person they have to, but once a comic moves to VICE it either loses some of its bite (MM&O) or loses a touch of its charm (Habits).

But the point of these pilots is not to just do the same thing over and over again, otherwise they might as well pick up ALL the pilots as potential series. How is this much more different than My Friend Pancake? Why should one get picked over the other if they're basically the same? The point is to find something outside the box that will be a hit because of how different it is. That's why Adventure Time, Gravity Falls, South Park, and even Beavis and Butthead were considered hits. They were just different, it was refreshing.

But if people just keep doing Adventure Time after 5 years, audiences will get sick of it. They already are, that's why Loud House took off when Nickelodeon least expected it.
>>
>>83882472
To me it seems like it could be a nature-centric cartoon done right. The stuff about ambassadors interests me as well.
I just feel some potential, I guess.
>>
>>83882812
eh.. there isn't enough of what-they-are yet. not a fraction as much as there has been in the past of each big thing. i want more fantasy adventures with wacky characters. I probably always will. I wanted it my whole life, and we NEVER got it. fantasy adventures were always extremely dry, like dungeons and dragons or pirates of dark water. closest we got was the occasional oddball like mighty max, but that was more like an action show with fantasy adventure sort of slathered over it
i ALSO want more serious action shows. i'll never get enough of those either. but at least growing up i HAD those.
>>
>>83877801

Surely you jestin...
>>
>>83882812

>that's why Loud House took off when Nickelodeon least expected it

loud house is anything but "outside the box"
>>
I'm just happy with the scanty level of clothes-have. main character in shorts and a wreath, naked animal sidekick, naked forest sprite that grows her own wood-and-leaf clothes out of her skin co-sidekick. that's good shit.
>>
>>83883471
I agree.
Reminds me of hippies now that I think about it.

It's different though. There aren't any other shows that try to look like a Sunday comic and the humor is kind of a return to old Fairly Oddparents writing, which we haven't really had in awhile. I'm not saying Loud House is amazing, but compared to Clarence, We Bare Bears, Regular Show, which are all just starting to feel like they have the same writing team, I can see why it was an unexpected hit with kids. I am shocked that Wander Over Yonder wasn't a huge hit. You can blame it on the station but even MLP took off despite being on a channel nobody watched.

>>83882926
I think my problem with some of the wacky fantasy shows we have right now is they're all doing the same type of wacky. They're all slice-of-life with cutesy, cozy moments whose humor depends on RANDOM EXPOSITION AND WORDS SHOUTED and fantasy as a backdrop. Bee and Puppycat, Steven Universe, Adventure Time, and Magic Children all feel the same to me. It's not that I'm tired of the genre, it's just that I'm tired of the execution, because this type of writing isn't limited to animation, I see it so damn often in comics as well, ESPECIALLY web comics (Which is where most of these networks are looking towards for potential series creators).
>>
>>83883564
but like, nice hippies, before they got all whiny. when free love was an experiment instead of just raw resentful selfishness
>>
>>83883575
loud house is basically just a step back 13 years. that's not a good thing, but thankfully in terms of it being creator-driven it's very modern-day, and that is a good thing
>>
>>83883575
I guess I can see you being tired of the execution, but I'm not.
you know what though? whatever else you'd rather have? I want us to have that too. I feel like there's PLENTY of room for a variety.
>>
mmm could use a slightly different title
>>
>>83873724
probably it was too close to adventure time
>>
>>83883653
I wasn't really around for the 60s; when did they get whiny? (or are you just talking about tumblrs?)
>>
Can we just get more porn of the deer? Thanks.
>>
It was dull and same-y.
>>
>>83883765
nick already dropped the ball rejecting adventure time which originally pilot'd there, so why would they be stupid enough not to grab something similar?
>>83883760
I'd go with "Doing Magic Things"
>>
>>83883789
I was thinking more like late-90s early-00s hippies. Before that, 90s hippies were actually pretty okay for a while. Some of them were damn near conservativeish, at least in terms of wanting small government with little interference, and a lot of 'em being keen on jesus.
and before that there just weren't any in the 80s really. and before that, regular innocent clueless hippies, so... yeah.
>>
i can't even decide if syppi or dre are more my waifu than the other
>>
>>83873724
it took them 3 years to make Loud House into a full series after the pilot
who knows?
but i'd imagine they'd not make it into a show because it and Harvey Beaks share to similar of a setting
>>
>>83886491
harvey beaks takes place in a magical forest? i thought it was a school or something
>>
>>83886881

but the looks are one of the best parts.

Seriously though it's hard to put in words why it's good. It's just a feelgood kids show but it's REALLY GOOD at being that. And it has some awesome music

The Loud House pilot was mostly just toilet humor.

It's kind've hard to determine quality off roughly 3-minute shorts anyway. Ya gotta feel for the potential.
