Madison Jeffries. A techno-morph who can control robotics, and who can channel the designs of engineers and scientists directly into being providing raw resources are in the vicinity. He used to do really rad shit like turn an evil android inside out, create a robot out of a car in minutes, hijack a sentinel and use it to save his team leader.
Last we saw him he was just this lowly worker and completely nerfed. He was ruined by Terry's terrible Weapon X book.

The writer for Alpha Flight v4 wanted him for the book, but the X-editors refused to give him up even though they didn't do jack shit with him.
I really love some of the old Gamma/Omega flight characters from Byrn's AF, but they've all fared very poorly I'm afraid. So much wasted potential in Diamond Lil, and Wild Child they made an absolute mess of. (The rest of Omega/Gamma died or disappeared early on with little development, more or less.)

This is exactly the problem. No one wants to develop characters, even if they get a small fan following. All they want to write is A and B listers who's characterization is damaged by lack of editorial oversight and who's continuity are increasingly convoluted. She was created when Nightmare raped a succubus who trespassed upon his realm. Nightmare trapped her in Live World which is a highly mutable dimension that that can mimic the mortal realm, however she was the only sentient being there. She created worlds and people to populate it based upon other worlds, playing god to amuse herself, but grew lonely and obsessed with the mortal realm. She's Chaotic Neutral and very dangerous, and has a ton of potential.

That's rediculous. There are other characters even more OP than him, and he's kind of overlooked in universe as potentially Omega Level.
He also has built in limitations. He himself is only a mechanic, not a scientist, not an engineer, so he can ether make robotic puppets and control them directly with his powers or he has to link up with someone more capable so they can work through him. He can only directly control so much and has to remain focused. He'd also be limited by resources in he immediate vicinity.
Now, where he's the biggest threat would be going up against someone who relies on technology like Iron Man, or when he's a brainwashed cog in an evil organisation's big machine, realizing their vision for them, like Weapon X.
I do think Mantlo abused Jeffries powers too liberally when he wrote AF after Byrne, mind you. I'm guessing that's what you refer to when you say he's too powerful. It was just bad writing.
There's a lot of interesting shit one could do with Jeffries whether as a hero or villain, and he's mentally unstable enough to go in ether direction. X-Club was on the right track though they nerfed him more than necessary.

True, they could always have the heroes faced with the realization that this guy's powers are really Omega level and that he's been around some of Marvel's most briliant scientists and inventors, just absorbing all this technical info and theory like a sponge, but limited in his understanding of the very things he could create on a whim.
A good writer could have some shit go down with him that makes him feared, and then have the heroes divided on ethical grounds regarding how to deal with the situation, while villains could be looking to use him to their own ends.

There's a very fun short story about a nanobot swarm.
A researcher who was using nanobots to cure diseases discovered that he had terminal cancer.
So he tasked the bots to cure him.
They couldn't and he got more desperate.
He kept removing restrictions on their access.
Eventually allowing them access to anything.
When he realized that he was likely to die before the came up with a cure, he gave them a final prime directive.
If he should die, resurrect him.
He had planned to freeze his body so that the machines could do it, but he died in a freak car accident that incinerated his body.
So the story has the nanobots, now with free access to the internet and the ability to network millions of computers set on the task to bring back their dead creator.
They escape the lab and start to temporarily take over people to act as their hands in the physical world.
It's a real interesting take on the grey goo scenario.
What if this mutant got drunk and decided to have a back up plan?
Nanomachines have such a wide variety of fun scenarios.
Technopaths are truly OP given sufficient technology, which the Marvel Universe clearly does

Jeffries has always been a character who fundamentally lacks ambition. I think it's the main thing holding him back from his terrifying potential, but if he has something to fight for, he'll do great and terrible things.
I have a story idea that has him having a secret lab where 'the voices' gave been guiding him in an attempt to bring various loved ones back from the dead, into a perfect artificial world. I'd have it be that he's been gathering data and designs from the minds of others all this time and these voices from the other side have been guiding him in compiling them and using them. The voices would actually be a long lost acquaintance assumed dead, an obscure character from Alpha Flight history, who has teamed up with an entity trying to break out of it's dimensional prison.

Better idea. Jubilee was only able to control herself because of Wolverine's blood, remember? Going without it for a long time, her vampirism worsens and she almost hurts someone, so she decides to leave the kid in the care of her room mates and seeks out Laura.
She could get caught up in all the human experimentation plot stuff that follows ferals like Laura, I mean, who wouldn't want a living vampire specimen to study, especially after learning that Laura's healing factor in her blood makes Jubilee a daywalker with better control over her nature than normal. Think of the potential.
I think two other characters could be put to use, too... Daken and Wild Child. If someone is going to do a Wolverine book, they need history and feral rivals for bloody battles. Daken would likely be looking to regain his regenerative abilities and imortality (or did they already do that? I've lost track), and Wild Child would be out in a search for a cure to his unstable mutations, or else looking to be put out of his misery.
Wild Child is another wasted character. He used to have fans, I'm beginning to think I'm the only one left. lol

So Daken and Wild Child have a similar dichotomy. They were also both henchmen of Romulus aka Super Psychic Wolver-Tooth, which creates an existing rivalry and shared history between them.
Neither Daken nor Wild Child would have any animosity towards Laura, though, which would make bringing these characters into her Wolverine book a really interesting prospect if they all have conflicting intentions. Daken strikes me as acting brotherly towards her but is ultimately selfish to a fault and Wild Child would probably end up a bit infatuated with her but is psychologically unstable. There's plenty of drama, conflict, and character development that could be built out of their collective narratives.
I do imagine Jubilee would hate both of them and be Laura's over protective best friend. Which would be cute as fuck.
