It's not saying I'M TOTALLY PERFECT AND THIS GUY IS A DOUCHE LOL, it's just showing funny things that an overly emotional retard did in a relationship with someone who thought that was the best she could do. the contrast between the two character designs is so great that in almost every panel, we see this disgusting monster with lots of details abusing this simple, cutesy, pleasing-to-look at character that never truly gets /angry/ until the comic about rape, and the general cluelessness without any sort of meaningful thought done in these 4-panel comics doesn't help.
Neither does the beginning of this series of comics. We see the snail and rat both being shitty towards eachother (more passive-aggressive on the snail but still kinda shitty), so it forces us to look more at the flaws of the both of them to see how the relationship will fail; at the same time, we don't have a shred of empathy from either of them, so they both seem like complete and total assholes. Once you start off with that premise, and the name of the comic itself, and start making the story more one-sided as it progresses, it feels like it's forcing you to feel bad for the snail, saying that she seems perfect the way she is and the ENTIRE relationship is the rat's fault.

Pinky and the Brain did well because you could see a bit more sympathy from them both, there was slapstick, they were emotive, they got their comeuppance, and most importantly, they didn't deal with lots of real life issues/mindsets of people.
That last bit is exactly why I absolutely do not like this comic and why I'm reading into it more, and why many others don't as well. It especially doesn't help that on 4chan, at least one of the exaggerated aspects of the rat - when torn down to what it more than likely was - will be completely relatable to a lot of people on here. You could have a guy who had a trans friend that was miserable and hated their decision or people who still struggle with even going through their treatment, and the whole exaggerated bit touched on here would end up being seen as insensitive to them. I mean, hell, I had a friend who went through that exact process; they went through hormone treatment, had mannerisms down, and looked incredible, but then they came out and said out in the open a few months after they were done that they had made a giant mistake.
But at this point I'm honestly just ranting. It's hot, humid, and disgusting where I live right now and I'm procrastinating like hell. But part of me just wants to express why, in detail, there are reasons I do not like the comic so that you can either improve these sorts of things in the future, or at least consider aspects of my criticism.I do genuinely like how you made yourself a snail to symbolize how slow you were to act/catch on to the failing relationship. Comes down to a biological/cultural view of sex and gender IMO. Different historical cultures have had different opinions on sex, gender, sexual orientation, etc. all throughout history and the prevailing attitudes in a culture obviously influence the people in it. Everything mental and physical is by degrees in us - you'll get some pure expressions of a thing, and others who incline or can be a thing but aren't so utterly taken up by it. Once being trans is on the table, it's going to be picked up by other people (whether because they too are trans or because they're flirting with the idea).

Am I an exception in thinking it's better to be alone than to be with the wrong person? To be comfortable and fine to be just by myself and to not be afraid to end and die alone, but afraid to end up ruining my and somebody else's life if I force myself to be with someone else.
I am not saying love is tupid and if I met someone with who it actually click, then perfect, but to not have anxiety to be alone and to not think "I need to find a new date, I can't be alone for too long" and force myself in a relationship.

This person had just had a suicide attempt. Nobody in their family supported them in their decision to want to transition. We got back in contact after nearly 3 years and I hung out with them, motivated them to get their old job back, that people will genuinely care about them. And you know what? They did. This person hit on me an uncomfortable amount, and I was not okay with it and they wouldn't stop. I figured, 'fine, they haven't been with other people in a long time, just let is slide'. Then when we went out to eat after reintroducing them to a friend, they made jabs at my girlfriend, saying shit like me having the courtesy to bring her desert from the restaraunt is having me on a tight leash. The both of them also made out on my bed with me in the room with my back turned and it was disgusting and they wouldn't stop.
But let's get back to the real point here. Yeah, they got their shitty job back. But they were blowing their money on frivolous shit and wasting all their time on video games, masturbating, anime, and twitter, and any suggestion to find a hobby/skillset/interest that they like that they could maybe even turn into a career was shot down.
They blew $16,000+ on 3 shitty vintage cars that all blew up because they're old, high-maintenance vehicles.
That's all money that could have been used to go towards their treatment, moving out of their abusive, depressing living situation, going back to school, seeing a psych to work out a lot of issues they had, going on vacation, or buying a goddamn brand new economy car with good mileage and warranty.

The impression I get from these comics is that this was an *extremely* toxic relationship that only lasted it did due to mutual dependency.
On the surface level, these comics seem to paint the rat as being a selfish, manipulative abuser and the snail as spotlessly innocent, but the fact that he breaks down into tears at the slightest provocation seems to suggest that either he's got some serious unmedicated emotional problems, has emotional manipulation down to a fucking T...or that these arguments are predicated by the snail doing something to put his on the verge of tears in the first place. Realistically, it's probably a combination of the three. The fact that both partners seem to have nothing in common also begs the question "Why did they get together in the first place?" and the answer was probably not a healthy one for either of them.
Most likely both of them were dealing with a lot of their own shit and tried (consciously or unconsciously) to offload some of that burden onto the other, which neither were up to the task of shouldering. This would have led to a lot of petty, selfish, manipulative, or abusive behaviour that they probably weren't even aware they were doing, especially if they came from backgrounds where that was the norm.
This isn't to say that either were the bad guy or that both were the bad guy or even that they're both equally to blame. It's just that this relationship was probably doomed from the outset, and if either partner was really ready for a relationship, they'd probably have known not to get into it in the first place.

The problem with hormones is that if you don't take them early, then you're not going to transition properly, since puberty wrecks havoc on the body. Young boys and young girls are essentially the same more or less, but once you hit that wonder age of like 10-13 you're suddenly growing tits or your voice cracks and goes down five octaves or your hips get wider or your shoulders grow out. So ideally, hormones should be given when you're still at that moldable stage where you're essentially still a blank slate that can grow into anything. But, of course, the big huge downside is that kids don't know shit and are still in that age where they're heavily influenced by their parents/surroundings/a random fucking whim they woke up with that morning, so asking them to make huge life altering decisions is usually a very bad idea.
