The worldbuilding is awfully iffy.

Within the show itself I'd say the biggest flaw is the slow pacing. The plot takes forever to get going, and some plotlines drag out too long (like the Malachite arc).
I feel like now with the stakes being raised so high, the slice of life episodes feel out of place.

It's worth noting that part of what makes me enjoy SU so much is that I've been around since 2013, watching and discussing it on /co/. At first I enjoyed this show right off the bat for being cute and visually appealing, with there being little to no explanation for what was going on in the series at that point, but gradually watching the show as the lore got better and better made me immensely more interested in the series. Kind of had to be around when the show was just started to capture that kind of spark, but I still would recommend it to any faggot on this board.

That's kind of what confuses me about the whole lack of exploration between the gems and the rest of the human population. I could buy that maybe humans don't question the gems themselves because they've been on Earth longer than the humans have, but for the most part the rest of the humans seem to be just kind of there when it's convenient, and you don't really get a truly human perspective of what it's like to live on a planet that was fucked up environmentally by rock aliens that still has monsters running around.
I mean, has the never been an Indiana Jones style archeologist that's tried to explore the gem monuments? Historians and archeologists digging around one of those gem battle fields or the Kindergarten? Hell, you'd think even just Beach City would have a ton of tourists stop at by for a peek at the temple alone considering it's a rather impressive piece of architecture.

Tieing in to the second, a lot of shit just lacks total depth or questioning. Steven never goes "Why?".
Also, Lapis being presented as an innocent character when she does a LOT of terrible shit- such as dropping the ocean on Steven & friends + refusing to help Steven escape his likely torture execution despite Steven being the one to free her from the mirror.
I think best gem Peridot was the first to take the piss out of her and point out that Lapis does a great job at being a professional victim.

I don't know. Short, I guess. At least we get 2 parters from time to time (And they're generally the best episodes, but that also comes from the fact that they're the opening or finale of a season.) but I can't help but wonder about what they could do with more budget, and 23min episodes. (Or at least MORE 2 parters.)
Also Steven is dumb. It doesn't bother me by itself, but he never asks any questions, and it drives me nuts. How come he never asked more about corrupted gems? We saw that it DID affect him when he learnt that he was fighting other gems all along. But he never went further than that?! And that's just ONE of those questions.I get that they don't want to give too much information, since they're fuel for next episodes, but still.

The difference between show like Regular Show or Adventure Time and Steven Universe is that RS and AT can get away with the looser pacing that being storyboard driven brings, while Steven Universe is trying to have a major over-arching plot at the same time. You need a team of people who know what they're doing that's all on the same page to pull that kind of thing off.
Though personally I think it's less the amount of time they're given and more that they just don't know how to utilize it efficiently. I've noticed there's been a lot of times where it almost feels like the writers are writing as though they're writing fanfiction for the show rather than actual episodes.

I dunno, I don't think it's professional but I find it kind of refreshing, and it's funny to point out some of the flaws. I don't know how to put it, but there's something nice about seeing the changes after seeing so much animation with recycled assets or tweens. This at least, for a tv show, resembles hand-animation somewhat. Also, none of them are offensive or too fucked up to any degree. It's not like the new PPG. Like I don't feel mistakes were made out of lack of care, just lack of capability, but still, looks better than those chinese cartoons. There's a nice simplicity to it that doesn't hurt the eyes or have too much going on but is detailed enough in the simple expression to really convey
