http://variety.com/2016/tv/news/cartoon-network-mighty-magiswords-1201794225/

>Cartoon Network has given a greenlight to “Mighty Magiswords,” a full-length linear television show developed as a series of interactive short videos on the Cartoon Network Anything app. The linear series is the first project to be developed as a digital-first property by Cartoon Network, then migrate to the company’s linear cable channel.

>“Mighty Magiswords” debuted last year as a series of 15-second interactive videos on Cartoon Network Anything. Created by Kyle A. Carrozza, “Mighty Magiswords” tells the story of a brother-sister warrior team who rely on their collection of swords — cheeseburger sword, dolphin sword and mummy sword among them — to complete tasks during their comic adventures.

>Alongside the upcoming linear series, Cartoon Network will debut more than 400 pieces of original content across various platforms. That content will include shorts, vlogs and web and mobile games, as well as interactive narratives. Cartoon Network is also developing proprietary technology that will allow fans of the series to collect and trade the various swords.

>“Mighty Magiswords” is part of a shift at Cartoon Network toward developing series outside of the normal process.

>>
>>83747221
A nickname for any show that is visually descended from The Simpsons. Circular eyes, thumb noses, sausage mouths, and lots of other stuff that Matt Groening used in his comics and was later translated and stiffened and straightened for television.

Big examples: Gravity Falls, Family Guy.

I'm not sure this garbage is better than that garbage, it's just different garbage.

First season is just called Slayers, so start there. Slayers NEXT is the second series, and Slayers TRY is the third. The surrounding media (Glorious, Premium, Perfect, etc) can be watched in pretty much any order, even before you watch the show. QT Naga only shows up in the OVAs.

And there's Revolution and Revolution-R, I guess, which take place after TRY and are technically season 4 and 5, but that's only if you want to put up with pic related.

That's just not true. In the '90s you had The Simpsons and Rocko and Tiny Toons and Rugrats and B:TAS and TMNT and tons of shows that looked very distinct from each other.

Now you have a whole bunch of shows in DCAU style (Bruce Timm-esque style), a while bunch of shows in Simpsons-esque style, and a show here and there that has its own style but isn't really distinct.

I feel like both 90s whacky style and UPA style are both gonna make a comeback.

The problem with that is that Animaniacs had really shitty animation. It's the copy-of-a-copy-of-a-copy problem.

Animaniacs animation is a Korean imitation of an '80s imitation Tex Avery cartoons, and it looks like utter shit. (not talking about the quality of the writing or the songs or anything, purely the character design and animation)

Now you got Kyle Carozza, who probably grew up on Animaniacs, and instead of going to the source and improving upon it, he just made imitation-Animaniacs style (FRS, Moobeard, now this)

So that's an unskilled imitation of a Korean imitation of an imitation of Tex Avery, and it looks worse after every step.

Plus his humor is really bad, I doubt anyone finds his comics or cartoons funny.

Pic related. It's what happens when you try to do wacky animation without being able to execute animation fundamentals.

Animaniacs had a fairly substantial budget for a TV show. You can see the same problems with Gummy Bears, although unlike Animaniacs, Gummy Bears had '70s Disney character design which made the characters at least not look like vomit. Additionally it had rather tight controls from actual skilled Disney animators so despite being animated by more or less the same studios, Gummy Bears had somewhat superior animation.

A small budget can account for using as little animation as possible or using a lot of corner-cut animation, but in Animaniacs you see full animation done bad. Some artist did 200 drawings of a run cycle only to have it look like crap because they don't have a clue about timing, settle, and other stuff that's necessary for good animation.

Isn't all criticism nitpicking? 200 years ago 90%+ of the population was illiterate and would never dream of such high entertainment as Mighty Magiswords or Megababies.

But the topic was "what's wrong with Kyle A. Carrozza's animation" any my answer is "it's a bad imitation of Animaniacs which was a bad imitation of Tex Avery". Instead of getting better and better, the animation just gets worse and worse because people imitate instead of learning the basics and building up.

You do know his inspirations were more than just the 90's Warner Bros cartoons right?

I like how you go in and assume that his art is shit because it's a cheap "imitation" of something he likes. That's called 'inspiration' anon.
Now how about an ice cream cone?
>>
This is the show that the guy that made Evil Billy and Josh went on to make, right?
>>
>>83755790
Is he really not allowed to like his art style?

I don't think it's all that appealing either. Am I a nitpicker?

John K was talking about bland metrosexual characters and bad character design.

Pic related is what John K calls "CalArts style", which is watered-down and '80s-ized Disney.

What /co/ calls CalArts is Adventure Time.

You're making an invalid argument about animation on television budget at its "finest" from the way.

This isn't the fucking 30's you know? And if you want to watch those if that fancies your needs then just go watch some indie animated shorts online, I can guarantee you will find some enjoyment out of those.
>>
>>83744422
wasn't expecting that

certainly not before a confirmation of Lakewood Plaza turbo or whatever its called these days
>>
>>83755936

The feet are the worst thing about this show.

Jesus fuck they are just stumps. Do they have goat hooves inside their huge boots?
>>
I gotta say, I'm not looking forward to this. Maybe it's just being promoted badly and it'll turn out great, so I'll give it a shot, but my expectations are low.
>>
>>83755968
Both have been confirmed ages ago during MIPCOM.
>>
>>83755962
Why are you getting mad at us? If you like the art style then thats cool. The fun of a board like this is so one can gush and hate on stuff. Not be a pissy baby. But you can always watch his shorts if that fancies your need of his style.

I'm sure you can find enjoyment out of those.
>>
>>83756027
No it's going to be problem solverz tier. Go look up the 3 minute shorts.

>>
>>83756147
I like it for more than just Buttwitch

It would be awkward though considering Star Vs. has a similar premise

Though it could just be a whole Jimmy vs. Dexter thing

Similar sounding cartoons with different executions.
>>
>>83756209
It was still fun I think.

And I liked the art style a bunch

Just let me have this anon
>>
>>83755936
This is just Chinese John K but I'll be fucking damned if she ain't thicc.
>>
>>83756188
First off all... why do you think the animation in Animaniacs to be considered "shitty"? What makes you expect from a TV production compared to the shorts in the 30's or 40's?
>>
>>83744422
I hope this never actually makes it onto cable.
>>
>>83756090
If this is meant to be the "new" way they introduce cartoons then I think you can reasonably expect to see more Lakewood Plaza soon.
>>
>>83756347
Yeah that's fair. I'd rather have that first than this.

I'm just being dumb is all honestly.

MIPCOM. I made a thread and everything. Nobody cared.

I've seen the shorts, they're pretty mediocre. But maybe three minutes is too little to work with and the usual 11 minute shorts will be better. Hopefully, they'll have some new good writers on board.

Fuck the industry. I understand why it is, but I hate what it's become. The only way to reliably stay on model is to go CG.
