YOU CAN'T.. LOCK UP.. THE DARKNESS

I just started watching this the other day. I'm only at like s2e2 so far, but I like it.

I like the wackiness of the time-travel and multiple realities, reminds me of Fringe. I like the guys from Prison Break hamming it up. My favorite actor on the show has to be the guy playing Wells. I think he does a very good job playing the different aspects of the character in terms of being a sociopath and a loving mentor. I like that the story isn't a conventional superhero origin story for Barry, his origin is a continuation or occurs from his future self's adventures. I like that Reverse-flash had a compelling reason for going back in time and then needing to help Barry become the flash so he could go back to his time. I think Barry's father and Joe are the only other good characters. I like the way they use the Flash's powers to deal with non-fighting dangerous situations.

I hate Iris. She is a pointless character for the first season, and only served to be Barry's love interest. If anybody was supposed to be the one to uncover Wells being a criminal, it should have been her because she is the only main character who is also a reporter. This way she would actually be doing something interesting in the show. Even though Joe is a good character as a father figure to Barry, the cop aspect of his character is boring. Eddie could have been a great character, but he wasn't given enough time to show his character's development after being rescued from reverse-flash. The CGI is awful. No meaningful time or effort was spent on Barry's job and skills of being a forensics specialist. Why has Felicity gotten like three full episode cameos when the Green Arrow has only gotten like 1.25 cameos? All the villains except for Snart's group and Reverse-Flash are boring as hell. All the fights are terrible except the 1v1 Flash vs Reverse-flash fights. Barry and the police shouldn't even be defeated by 90% of the villains. BarryxCait will never happen because of Iris.

Too much filler and the pacing is off. 30-40% of the first season could be gutted to fix the pacing and get to the point. The first season would be better if they took like 60% of season 2 episode 1 and added it to the end of the first season. The show played out the Reverse-Flash reveal and everything in a completely stupid way. They should not have had all those scenes showing Wells killing people, walking, and looking into the future during most of the first season. Those should have been shown after Iris investigates Wells and Barry captures Wells.

It was stupid to have Green Arrow and Fire-Man fight Reverse-Flash. It should have had Barry overcome Reverse-Flash on his own and have a dynamic race/fight between the two. Perhaps Wells tries to trick Barry into opening the wormhole so that he can escape to the future while Barry goes to save his mother, but Barry realizes what Wells is trying to do so he gives up on saving his mother (and changing the timeline) so that he can bring reverse-flash to justice. Shenanigans happen while Flash/Reverse-Flash are racing/fighting through the past and wormhole and Barry ends up winning the battle against Wells by using the Speedforce in a unique way. However, when Barry goes to bring reverse-flash to Star Labs, he discovers that he is in a different reality. Then the season ends with Barry working with E2 Wells and team to go back to his world, accidentally bringing Wells and Zoom with him. The ending confrontation could have even been something crazy with Reverse-Flash wanting to go back in time to make sure he finished off kid Barry, and then present Barry and future Barry have to work together to protect past Barry from present reverse-Flash and future Reverse-Flash.

The absolute worst aspect of the show is how heavy handed it is in two ways. I like Cisco's character and nerd goofiness and pandering, but it is like his character was made for child viewers. Every episode you can expect that Cisco is going to:
A) Explain what is happening during a scene so that I guess child viewers can understand what is happening?
Ex: Eddie shoots himself. Cisco: "Oh no! Eddie shot himself, which means that the reverse-flash will disappear, because remember in the previous episode that Eddie is reverse-flash's ancestor! Since Eddie died, it will mean that the reverse-flash was never born!" etc...
B) Be an illustration of some moral for children to learn.
Ex: Oh no, because I did or didn't do "X", then bad stuff happened and it is my fault. So next time, I should do "X" because I learned my lesson." Rest of the characters: "It's OK Cisco, we all love you. And most important is that your learned your lesson! Cisco: "Thanks guys! You're the best!"

Anyways, watching this has made me interested to start reading Flash and watch the other DC shows. Are there any flash comics with wacky time-travel focused stories?

"Versus Zoom" is in the worst episodes, not "Enter Zoom"

I just started watching Arrow and am officially hooked. I know there's supposed to be crossovers between Arrow and Flash, so my question is this: at what point should I stop watching Arrow and start watching Flash so the crossovers make sense?

Also, is Flash going to be as good as Arrow?

Outside of those 2 episodes you really don't need one before the other (flash crossover ep takes place first) and most slowly get hooked on flash so you would really have to hate an aspect of it to not like the show.

The reveal of the real Jay Garrick and Zoom casually saying he's been to other worlds before Earth 1 was totaly dump

Season 2 was 6/10 at best. There was just a smidgen more positives than there was total crap.

The time travel episode in season 2 is Gustin's favorite, even he realizes his best interactions are with RF.

Season 1 had dumb parts but consistently having wellsobard smoothed out a lot of dumb things and one of the few things they did right is having barry not over coming RF on his own. It should take a lot to beat a villain like RF and having a rookie level like barry doing it would have been dumb. Narratively and with writing so they got caught in a lot of comic-booky writing but the actors, especially older ones did a lot with it. It helped elevate younger actors.

Which season 2 showed that as well. Also dumb casting decisions leaving patty's actress contract open like that and LoT setup and a lot of bad pacing issues in season 2, worst villain and misused potential.

Season 3 needs to do a lot of different things and I just don't seem them doing it. They're going to make a lot of same mistakes which will now translate across shows instead of keeping them isolated.

They do not have budget so they'll resort to petty drama. Even if season is slightly better it will still end up being disappointing.
