Ever read that old Gadget Noir stuff? Didn't go anywhere, but I think it was a decent take on a gritty Gadget without going full edgelord.

Tbh, I wonder what a properly made modern reboot of this show (that doesn't get cancelled and relegated to Netflix) would look like.
See, kids these days have robots everywhere. Someone they know probably has a quadcopter toy, if someone orders a package from Amazon it might come by a drone, very likely at least one of their friends has a Roomba in house, and other makes robots with Lego Technic. They probably played Portal, they've seen Big Hero 6 and Chappie. Concept of a robot by itself is not funny anymore.
Robots being funny because of weird do-anything gadgets wouldn't fly with modern kids, it wouldn't be as easy as adding Go, Go, Gadget Quadcopter.
So show would have to take a different concept entirely. I think something closer in style conceptually to Megaman cartoon, more of an action-comedy rather than regular comedy, and comedy being more character-driven, would probably be a better idea. Gadget's cybernetics would probably have to be treated as something mundane, but cool and letting him occasionally look like a maybe absentminded, but badass - but perhaps regularly malfunctioning, which might lead to hilarious hijinx (because malfunctionng tech is something kids have to deal with everyday).
