What's your stance on Funko Pop figures /co/?
I am not a fan of them, pic related is the only I own. In fact I think it is the best looking one.
>>
>>83677948
Most of them are ugly as hell.
>>
>>83678093
This.
Also, never heard of them until last year.
>>
>>83677948
They're inoffensive, and people only hate them because every 7:10 look bad or generic and they're popular with normies.
>>
>>83677948
awww who's this fella? he looks like a funny guy. they all look so fucking cute it's annoying. even the Xenomorph is adorable
>>
>>836781>>83677948
My kids love them. Princesses for the girl and capes hit for the boy.
>>
Big Hero 6 Fred looks great. That's basically it.
>>
why are they so popular when the majority of them look like shit
>>
It's the least creative figure line Ive ever seen.
>>
they don't interest me because they either look generic "cute" or just bad because the style of whatever doesn't translate, but I don't hate their existence and can see how people can enjoy them
>>
Didn't own any until the overwatch reaper one. Fun for one off characters I guess, but they're the new beanie babies imo
>>
>>83677948

They're incredibly cheap and lazy, and certainly not worth the price they sell them for.

I'd be okay with them if they were like, $5, instead of $16/$18 here in aus.
>>
eh i like them, not all of them are good and most are generic and basic as hell but there's a couple that I like and i plan on getting more. I don't really consider it a waste if i genuinely enjoy having them
>>
>>83677948
They're cute enough and a nice way to have inexpensive and socially acceptable merch. I've got The Flash and The Reverse Flash. They're also only, like, 10 bucks in the US.
>>
They make good gifts if you need to get someone a present and have a cursory knowledge of what they like.

I only buy them for characters who don't look like regular humans. I just don't think humans look good in this style. Also I like anatomically correct figures more. I've got like 5 or 6 Funkos. Not /co/, but this is my newest.

Yeah. They tend to look best on nonhuman characters.
>>
looks to be a good way of removing money form suckers
>>
Complete garbage. Owning one is genuinely telling the world that you're a piece of shit that will buy ANYTHING.
>>
I think anyone that owns more than 3 of them is a hack. If they really enjoyed having a collection they coudl spend real money on some figures but instead spend 200 bucks on ten of these. They'll die out like beanie babies did since they have no real value nor do hardcore fans enjoy them.

I think I've bought 2 out of the fucking 400 I've seen, the Slimer one is actually pretty cool. I try to buy as few figures as possible because I don't want shit everywhere. I think going with that mentality helps you wind up with a nicer and less obnoxious assortment. I did kind of get addicted to the kidrobot Simpsons blind boxes though
>>
Poorly designed, poorly made. Dull, uninspired, ugly, boring and a waste of space and money.
Not kidding when I say you might as well shit into mason jars and put them on your shelf if you consider buying and putting a funko figure on display.
>>
>>83677948
Too expensive to collect, but fun to grab a favorite or two
the only one I own is the Donald Trump one
>>
Nendoroid did it first and better. Still a waste of money and cute crap shit.
>>
>>83677948
I think they're all ugly little abominations, and yet I feel pressure to have at least one of them.

I feel like they'de be better with slightly less wide heads and eyes that are a little less perfectly spherical.
>>
Yeah, a lot of them are ugly as sin and I feel like even the good ones are a tad overpriced - I just can't bring myself to spend money on them.
But I know I'm getting a few of the neater ones for my birthday, so it's fine.
>>
Do you collect a certain character? Then they're good for increasing the quantity of your collection.

I own both WALL-E and EVE, would probably never buy another.

>>

Nendoroid has much better detailing as well as usually having different face plates and extra items.

Still way too expensive, but I can at least understand people wanting some of them.
>>
>>83678927
This.

the only reason you'd buy a funko instead of a nendo is being a poorfag that wants to fit it
>>
While I don't really like them much, I do own a few as some of the characters they make figures of have no collectables or merchandise.
>>
>>83677948
I can't stand these things, they're extremely unappealing to look at and they're everywhere

I just hate super deformed shit, you just have to make the figure actually look like the character its supposed to be, that's all

He's totally right though.
I think a few of em are cute enough (got myself a BB-8), but the fact that they've got like half a dozen Jared Leto Jokers when the movie hasn't even come out shows how easy these things are to produce. It's lazy, very little thought goes into them, and the fact that they're selling like Beanie Babies (and will likely degrade in value along that same line) is encouraging other companies to pursue the same thing.

Who needs good paint, detail, or articulation when you can make a simplified base of something with a big head and tiny body, then spend an afternoon slapping any given character onto said base?

There's a few that are cool, like BB-8 or Godzilla or the Sharknado, but the vast majority of ones that adhere to the standard design are boring as fuck.

I bought a borderlands psycho one a few weeks ago. There really aren't many options for borderlands merchandise and I wasn't going to get the clap trap one. I feel like the psychos are a bit more iconic then the annoying robot. They're need little collectables if its something ur obsessed with I suppose. Adventure time ones sounds cool. Are there any other ones then the lich king?

I honestly don't get why people collect these.
They're expensive as fuck for what they are and look utterly miserable inside the box.

Not to mention how, unless your favorite character has a REALLY specific costume or hairstyle, a lot of them end up looking generic as hell (see Tyrion Lannister or any wrestler that isn't John Cena, Macho Man, Hulk Hogan, or Daniel Bryant).
>>
>>83679534

Yup. It wouldn't bug me nearly as much if they didn't do the soulless black eyes for everything. There's those Steven Universe mystery funkos that don't do the soulless eyes and it makes a world of difference. Too bad they're sold as mystery boxes which is an obnoxious business practice.
>>
>>83679546
>expensive as fuck
>under $10

where do you live that $10 is expensive?
>>
>>83679605

Somebody from /sug/ is supposedly buying two display cases of 'em and is reporting the weights of each blind box along with any other give-aways they might have.
>>
>>83679572
Like, I get collecting stuff.
I've got a lineup of Predators and a LEGO Justice League, I get it.

But there's so much better stuff out there than FunkoPops, and for a similar price.

Like, I like the Hound from GoT. I think he's fucking cool. So I got a figure of him for like $11 (on sale). Articulation is kinda rough and the paint is janky on his face, but slap the helmet on and pose him right, he looks pretty slick.
I'd rather have that then a poorly painted chibi version of the Hound that costs more money.
>>
>>83679621
These things are never $10 when I see em in stores.
Usually $11 at the very least, maybe $10 if there's a sale.

Not to mention you're paying for a tiny plastic bobble-head with no articulation and basic paint apps.
The mark-up is absurd. I dropped like $18 on a Spider-Man, sure, but at least I can swap out his hands and pose him like Sailor Moon.
>>
Cheap garbage.

I don't see the point, since toy companies usually make actual figures for collectors. But I guess it's o.k. for characters they don't do. Mighty Muggs seemed cooler, though.
>>
>>83679605
>Blind boxes
Why is there always one figure that's totally boring and awful.
Like, there'll be a blind box with a really good lineup, really cool characters, but there's always ONE that has no business being a figure.

A person who collects TONS of FunkoPops is an idiot who doesn't know how to manage their money (or someone falling for the same trap as people who spent tons of collecting Beanie Babies in the 90's).

>>
>>83679787

No need to get pissy about it, it's a simple fact that if you're going to piss away money on a cute figure of a character you like, nendo's are objectively the better choice.

>>83677948
I think that they're alright but the issue that always comes to mind when I think of them has less to do with quality/aesthetics and more me not understanding the draw of legitimately collecting them.

They feel fadish, which to me makes it hard to think that they'll last long enough to gain something resembling timelessness or ubiquity, which I think is important element of collectible stuff. It's too long for me to explain, but from a gut perspective it's just difficult for me to imagine looking at a half wall of Funkos 15 years from now the same way I look at a sizable collection of Hot Wheels or carded Star Wars TPM action figures today.
>>
>>83681109
Yeah a problem with it is that a lot of people are jumping on the bandwagon at this point. I think a lot of stuff will eventually go down in value while a select few might hold their value (due to cross-sell). Sort of like 90's comics and Beanie Babies where people think nothing has any value (which causes exceptions to rise in value)

They're the new beanie babies. Ultimately they're a fad that people only buy because they think they're going to be a valuable collectible.
>>
>>83677948
It's the eyes. They use solid black eye colors for everyone, which looks sorta creepy. But, some characters, such as the Lich, actually do have black eyes, so it looks better that way.

They're normie magnets, as evidenced by how there's a fucking hundred Batman ones and over half the entire collection is from surface level mainstream 'geek culture' of whatever the hottest fiction television show or blockbuster movie is.

I've got these two myself. Apparently there's at least two more variations of #239.

Local hobby/card store across the mall where I used to head a grill got like four of the normal ones and four of the Burning variations. Got 'em both for like $25 for the generosity of the friends I had running that place.

Come to think of it, it's strange that he's missing. He's always been one of the original World Warriors. He really ought to be included but oh well.

Why are you getting them dirty? Are you a filthy boy? Are you doing lewd things? Dust isn't an issue since you can just beat that off and in the instance of incidental accidents, you can spot clean them by hand.

As a matter of fact, yes, though not with plushies.

Only thing I like about them is how they will make some replicas of some fairly obscure fandom characters that otherwise never would have had a figure made at all.

But I think they are incredibly lazy and the single design for everything under the sun just bothers me. I would rather a company make vinyl figures of totally random characters from movies/shows around the same size. They only serve the single purpose of adoring my computer desk anyway.
>>
>>83690720
My collection site in a corner of my room out of direct sunlight and slightly raised off the floor. If you keep them out of direct sun and wash them when they need to be, with a little soap in warm water it's fine. Can't recommend putting them in the washer for the reasons you stated and it can ruin their stuffing.
