Louise's first appearance in Firestorm v2 when the the previous Frost who she was friends with dies. It's like issue 21 I think. Then in 33 there's a whole book about her having a mental breakdown and killing herself so that she can pretend her friend is still alive. Then there's a couple post-crisis issues with her as a slasher movie monster hunting Stein. These are by Ostrander, and are really good.
Then in Firestorm 3 there's a story around #8 with her manipulating the black Firestorm to cure her while she's dyibg, and one at #24 where she seduces Mister Freeze into helping her eat the sun. There's a good Superboy issue somewhere in there if you're all about muh feats that establishes that most matter can't even touch her.
Firestorm is basically Stardust the Super Wizard and she's one of the biggest threats to him. If she weren't insane and in constant pain she'd be a planetary threat.

He's got a fleshed out backstory, a dynamic personality that helps the reader understand why he does what he does and actual sympathize with him even when he does deplorable, even monstrous things (like the time he killed Chilblaine in the most brutal way imaginable).
Plus, he's a mortal man with the capability to directly counteract one of the most powerful characters in the DC Universe. It'd be like if Superman's arch nemesis was Kryptonite Man.
