Will Netflix bring about the renaissance Era of cartoons?
>>
>>83663299
I want them to do Exo-Squad, next.
>>
>>83663299
Hopefully, Voltron is really good and I'm just of the second episode.

Netflix or Hulu are basically the only hopes for a renaissance in anything TV related. Considering how Netflix original series are being considered top-tier television, I can see potential.

I still maintain we're in a mini-renaissance now; every time you complain about Cal Arts, just remember how terrible the late 2000's were.
>>
>>83663299
Only watched the first episode, and I was really annoyed by some of the /WACKY/ characterizations and dialogue.
Does it get better? I want it to get better.

I've only watched Bojack, what else do they have that's good?
>>
>>83663299
Yes. I was tired of the "lol so randum" cartoons that are popular nowadays. This is actually good
>>
>>83663591
And HBO, and AMC. Basically, there's only one direction TV can head in, and that's online streaming. On demand, playing the shows you want. Airing via tv guide schedule is a dead medium and people need to get on board or sink with the ship.

There's used to be some personality gained from scheduled airings in terms of big special events, but most stations killed anything that gave them personality long ago to optimize their commercial time.

F is for family, also all the dreamworks shows.
>>
>>83663673
F is for Family, despite being 6 episodes long, is pretty comfy. Not very good, but not bad either.
>>
>>83663709
I'll admit to a nostalgia for blocks and promos, but I fast-forwarded through everything once my family got a TiVo so this is the inevitable result.

Come to think of it, it's amazing how everyone got a DVR in 2005 and then stopped watching TV less than a decade later.
>>
>>83663673
Bojack is the best. F is for Family tries to be Bojack with that super cynical twist on what appears to be a normal sitcom, and it's not nearly as good as it but it was a good time filler waiting for season 3. Will watch if they make another season.
I'm not sold on Voltron yet. As was mentioned, the characters act too over the top. There's a good action show buried under here, but some obnoxious main characters.

Inferno /co/p by Netflix when?
Please wake me up from my eternal sleep when (if) Nextflix saves cartoons.
>>
>>83665602
Does that have anything to do with the movie trollhunter?
>>
>>83666401
No.

There was a book that came out last year. Guillermo del Toro was also involved in it.
>>
>>83663299
We shouldn't rely on Korean-made reboots of cheap 1970s mecha anime if we want to see a renaissance in the world of American animation.
We need original content.
>>
Half of Australia probably still can't spare the bandwidth and/or have the speed to watch Netflix so if your willing to ignore an entire most of a continents worth of market maybe

What the fuck is wrong with /co/?

If you already have Netflix why wait?
>>
So how is it?
I'm waiting to watch it with friends.
>>
>>83667883
Characters fill their tropes like gloves and have no semblance of depth, and I'm not actually a big fan of mechas, but it's pretty decent.
>>
>>83663591
People act like they're making a bunch of amazing shows but Bloodline, Narcos, and Bojack Horseman are the only shows they've made I thought were great.

C'mon, don't you remember Avatar: The Last Airbender, the greatest animated TV series ever made in America?
Besides, there is no renaissance if there never was a classical age in the world of American animation.
Renaissance = rebirth
>>
>>83663299
>>83669123
Niggas we've already had a damn Renaissance. It was called the Disney Renaissance or just the Renaissance. It started in 89 and, depending upon whom you ask, ended somewhere in 2000-2002.

>Besides, there is no renaissance if there never was a classical age in the world of American animation.

We had one it was called the Golden Age and it is generally considered to run from 1928 to some point in the late 50's.

So did anyone else notice the shot in the intro with the black paladin at the controls, with the beyart. was this the future? the past? Thinking we're getting a look at future Keith here. Also if anyone knows how to take screen shots on netflix, I'd love to know.

so is voltron good? seems like SJW tron with the brown princess and reverse trap shit.
>>
>>83672771
sure those elements are there and you can get hung up on that shit..episode 10 was especially "I don't need no man" in my book, but it's a good show. You're not going to see media in [current year] without some of these irksome qualities. They are there, but they'll only bother you if you laser beam focus on them.

>Avatar: The Last Airbender, the greatest animated TV series ever made in America?
It wasn't even the best American cartoon on at the time. It only gets as much love as it does because serialized, serious stories are a barren genre in western animation.

If it came out in Japan, or was released as a kid's book series, it would be completely unremarkable.
>>
>>83679179
It tanked in Japan but iirc that was because they didn't like the Fire Nation.

It was released in Japan and got cancelled midway through Book 2.

So I guess you're right.
>>
>>83683282
I dunno, Avatar would be considered pretty unique as a kids show in Japan with no-built in toy marketing tie in and as a completely original project and not an adaptation

Quality wise? Probably not. But from a production standpoint, those two facts make it rare as fug
