A few years ago an issue of Hack/Slash featured Fantomah, the public domain jungle comics character from Fletcher Hanks of Stardust the Super Wizard fame.
She had her own 4 page faux-"Golden Age" style mock-up story.
It was inarguably the pinnacle of the medium.
This is a storytime of it.
This is pretty much a perfect stylistic recreation, to the point where it's sometimes incorrectly identified online as an original Fletcher Hanks strip.
oooo i love fantomah

I had to reduce these images to 90% of their original size, btw. The originals were too big to post.
Fletcher Hank was a nutter - but man, love his comics.
bumping for others.
fletcher hanks posts are so comfy
kek A bit too graphic for true fletcher but a very good take on his work

What was up with ghost/spirit/phantom women in the 40s? Were people genuinely afraid of women with paranormal abilities or was it just an idea that a bunch of people copied?

Hm I suppose. I like to think there was something magical happening in the subconsciousnessness of different creative types and this recurring meta-character kept emerging to help things along. Even down to the Invisible Woman and Raven type descendant characters published today.
This was a great issue.
The art was done by Kyle Strahm, a pretty amazing artist.
He's currently working on a book called Spread. Think Lone Wolf and Cub meets John Carpenter's The Thing.

40k?
Naw man. That's straight up Warhammer Fantasy.
40k is mostly grounded in comparison, in Fantasy what the fuck ever goes.

That tiger has seen some shit.

It's close. The only thing I would complain about that it's a bit ironic. The original was dead serious and made by a mad man.
