Kohl is using his fame to turn it into magic to not need to have a job which is probably just him jedi mind tricking everyone into giving him free shit. Kid with Knife owns a car so he probably has some sort of income or job. He's the most normal out of them all. Emily seemed to have some sort of income through the coven. The book is more interested in showing a person's personal and social life much more than a professional one, well at least up until the end where everyone has to kind of realize they need a career and stop chasing music fairies.

Lloyd makes music. Indie Dave does as well. The book isn't about making music like how Wic+Div needs music pop idols. Phonogram is just about your connection to music and how you use it. It's a much more vague ethereal form of magic than Wic+Div's I'M A GOD, ZAP MOTHAFUCKA.

Shit man, I realize that somewhere within the depths of irony this comic is SUPPOSED to be 2deep4me, but that doesn't stop me from feeling so bad for not getting half of the references they were pumping out.
I was never one for watching/listening to things just to be able to reference them when analyzing other media, but it seems like it's almost necessary to have any sort of intelligent conversation when it comes to things like this, especially music.
Is that what intellegence is? Just being able to tell what influences art? References on references on references that make people feel stupid for not knowing what's up?

Well the Scott Pilgrim reference is kind of incredibly obvious. The cover mimics the first Scott Pilgrim cover. The title 'Let's Make This Precious Little Life' is an amalgam of Scott Pilgrim's Precious Little Life and the Dexy's Midnight Runners' song Let's Make This Precious. There's a lot of Dexy's to know to completely understand Lloyd. It's not worth it.
There's also several Scott Pilgrim style references as well. The black and white, the introductory caption boxes, and the use of fighting as metaphor.

Apart from the Kid With Knife issue of Singles Club that is supposed to be set entirely to a TV on the Radio song, nothing in these books is particularly worth delving into to get the reference.
I've been heavily involved with music fandom since I was about 14, and I have to say if I knew people that unironically quoted really dumb lyrics like these fags I'd tell them to shut the fuck up. Seth would be my homie, I'd make fun of Lloyd every chance I got, and I'd try my hardest not to punch Laura in the fucking face.
