The second season plays back on the first. Mr. PB is one of the few genuine people who is glad of their success and feels lucky he is a success. He loves his job and loves his life. And even in his down time as a shoe salesman, he impresses the right people with his charisma and his good nature. He winds up Bojack because he considers him his friend and Mr PB thinks he's making mean jokes just to cheer up Bojack and get him back on track in his own way but deep down, he cares for Bojack as a friend. No, he knew full well nothing would ever come of it, and Diane was just wasting her time and getting a lot of hatred over it. And what happened? Nothing came of it, except Diane getting a shitton of hate mail.
If I recall correctly, he originally asked her to let it blow over, since it didn't really concern either of them but was generating a good deal of trouble, and she went ahead and made it a big deal. Then his concern was all the death threats she was getting. At NO point was he trying to get her to stop because Hank was a part of the same network. Wanda brought it up to Bojack(since it is her network), but neither of them mentioned it to either Mr. PB or Diane that I could see.
