Let's debate this /co/. Who do you think has better comics and why?

Company wars...go!
>>
>>83483035
I think both put out the same amount of good comics (most are meh, some are bad, a few are good), much like every other comic publisher.
>>
>>83483035
DC and Vertigo has a bunch of classics.
>>
>>83483035

Anyone who thinks Marvel has better comics than DC is either 12 or just stupid.

Sorry, kid. You must be 18+ to be on 4chan.

>>
Marvel has more interesting characters, but DC has more interesting stories.

Oh, fuck it. I prefer Valiant
>>
Well after Rebirth, I'd give it to DC. Marvel has been putting out some shite lately like Squirrel Girl and the literally Steven Universe traced Hellcat.

I'm way more interested in what DC is doing right now than Marliberal.
>>
>>83483684
What did Rebirth do so well anyways? From what I've heard, it mainly panders to nostalgia with lots of very hammy text.
>>
>>83483474
I know I'm older than you, Junior. I've also been reading comics since I could read which is way before '08 came along and you DCasuals got your first taste of capeshit from a pretentious film sequel.

>>83483684
>Marliberal

Oh, shit. Good one.

You're right though, DC is definitely against this liberal agenda shit. Making your characters gay/black/gay and black and hiring artists with lesbian haircuts is way conservative.
>>
>>83483854
Setting up a bunch of really intriguing story hooks, and accurately addressing the problems most fans had with the New 52 are the two big ones.
>>83483881
>Hiring artists with lesbian haircuts
wat. How is this even a complaint?

>>
I've always been more attached to DC's characters and lore. Marvel has some good stories too but a lot of their stuff just feels isolated from the rest and they really shouldn't feel like that in a shared universe. And they have more characters that I dislike or don't give a damn about.
>>
I think both have had plenty of great stories over the years but I much prefer how DC has its "lore" (if that's what you'd call it) set up. I don't think you'd see anything like Multiversity at Marvel, I guess the closest thing is what Hickman was doing.
>>
Depends on the writers

DC has a ton of comics that are perceived as art, good writing material beyond comic books.

Like Watchmen, V for Vendetta, Swamp Thing, Animal-Man, All Star Superman, Preacher, Sandman, etc.

Marvel literally doesn't have any of that.

Hellboy has genuinely better structure and doesn't force a monthly comic for their most popular character. It's a shared universe that doesn't overstep it's bounds.
>>
DC has top tier waifus. Marvel has gwenpool. I rest my case
>>
>>83484910

Nah, the presentation for that comic sucks. Over detailed artwork with walls of text, dark colors, etc.

Too edgy to be taken seriusly, like seriusly beyond comic books.

>>83486117

Then tell me a good Marvel book that people consider ART.

Here, I'm waiting. You clearly are a /tvfaggot/ that doesn't know shit about comics, I can tell because of that post, so I bet you don't know shit about shit
>>
>>83486294
>that people consider ART
Who is "people"? Because depending on who you ask, they could consider very different types of comic books (or no comic books at all) art.
>>
>>83485812
You talking about popularity?
Civil War is at this point probably more popular than 2 out of 3 books you just mentioned, ya twat

as for quality
Kraven's last hunt
Man without fear
fucking MARVELS
>>
>>83486367
>Man without fear
Born Again is better imo.
>>
Why is Blue Beetle always paired against Black Panther in the big VS images? They're on two different leagues.
>>

>>
>>83486294

And I've been reading comics since before your father squirted you out of his sack, kiddo. Funny you bring up /tv/ though. I bet you didn't even pick up a comic until after you watched Heath Ledger's swansong movie.
>>
>>83486351

General consensus anon.

The general consensus says that Watchmen, Swamp Thing, Animal Man, Preacher, Sandman, etc are above most comic books because they are sooooo damn good that they are basically good literature, beyond comic books.

Are you going to bring marvel titles that fall in that category or are you a /tvfaggot/?

>>83486367
>You talking about popularity?
NO.

I'm talking about books that ALREADY are known as ''beyond comic books quality wise'', comics that already are known as that.

For example NOT Kraven's last hunt. Good read but nowhere near as good as V for Vendetta, you need to know about Spider-man in order to get it while VFV can be understood without having to be a huge comic book fan
>>
>>83486367
When will the "Kraven's Last Hunt is good" meme end?
>>
>>83486586
General consensus says that only one book you listed is good literature beyond comic books. That's Watchmen. Everything else is an opinion you read on /co/.
>>
>>83486574

I disagree about all of those.

Wolverine and Daredevil are good but nothing special compared with Sandman or Swamp Thing and specially Squadron Supreme doesn't even touch Watchmen despite sharing similar subjects, the writing and presentation are meh.

I have been reading comics since the 2000s
>>
>>83486586
>General consensus
General consensus doesn't mean shit. Just because a lot of people say something doesn't mean it's right. And knock it off with your /tv/ bogyman, it's annoying.

And if you want artsy Marvel titles, you should try Miller's Daredevil, Marshal Law, Starstruck and Marvels
>>
>>83486367
right about the same time hardcore-dc-only people stop jerking Watchmen off so hard
>>
>>83486633

Sandman won awarsds that only books would get.

I'm still waiting for your example of Marvel having a story that is considered as good as watchmen
>>
>>83486669
>Marvels

I can tell you right now that the book is a poor's man version of Kingdom Come, like you can tell that Marvel hired the same people from KC and told them ''do that but for Marvel comics!'' and it ended up being pretty forgetable beyond the artwork
>>
>>83483035
Marvel has gone too far and has been too ham fisted with their SJW direction.
>>
>>83486683
Doesn't matter, we can jerk off Killing Joke, 10 Sandman volumes, Preacher, Animal Man, Swamp Thing, All Star Superman, Road to perdition, To the Man that has everything, Multiversity, Doom Patrol.

What does Marvel has? A rock
>>
>>83486690
Why don't you give me some stories that aren't written by poached 2000 AD talent and we'll talk.
>>
>>83486735
It's nothing like Kingdom Come though. Kingdom Come is about the place of heroes in a world of mortals, Marvels is about the place of mortals in a world of heroes.
>>
>>83486879
>83486879

Changing goal posts when you don't have shit to say.

How does it matter if the writters worked for 2000 AD?
>>
>>83486881

I know its not the same, but you can tell that Marvels wouldn't exist if it wasn't for Kingdom Come.

It feels like the story wasn't that great for Marvels because it was forced to exist
>>
>>83486690
Marshal Law and Born Again are both pretty good, though I eagerly await you to tell me why they're not.
>>
>>83486804
Since when has Preacher even come close to being as good as Doom Patrol or Sandman? Shit I love Ennis but that's still one of his weakest works. What about Hitman? Or just admit that most of DC's greatest shit came from Vertigo. And I'm surprised how many people are talking about Marshal Law.
>>
>>83486923

What's this obsession with "going beyond" and "transcending comics"? Nobody talks about this shit with film and books, why are comics different?
Do you need a way to "legitimize" a medium which is seen juvenile by the American mainstream?
>>
>>83487278

Alan Moore is a tool, do you really want to bring his opinion to the table?

According to him ALL comic books with super heroes should be made and only enjoyed for kids.

Even the clearly more adult work that he did with Superman, Batman and Swamp Thing

I do believe it. But if you don't like it, then that's fine by me, anon.

I'll name three, man:
Kraven's Last Hunt
Marvels
Silver Surfer: Requiem

Be it as it may, it's still my personal opinion, anon.

>At least DC didn't fuck up a movie so badly that ended up making people call their characters gay for each other
YEAH FAGGOTS NO ONE HAS EVER THOUGHT BATMAN AND SUPERMAN WERE GAY FOR EACH OTHER WHAT NOW HUH?
>>
>>83488075

Serious is not edgy, but the way the artwork, color and dialogues were used in that made the whole book seem edgy.

Like saying that talking about politics makes a work mature by default.
>>
>>83488095
Elektra: Assassin was pretty good, and My War Gone By was great.
>>
>>83488139
The initial premise is interesting, because almost everything in DC is explained by aliens or money.

The problem is that Marvel don't know how to handle them.
>>
>>83488104

oh wow, there was a /tvfaggot/ on the thread? Who else knew??? Besides everybody.

People talking about comics, faggots can only repply company wars.

Priceless.
>>
>>83488077
Moebius was a treasure, I miss him everyday.

The one that Road to Perdition got for BEST movie? totally deserved
>>

Silver Age comics are gay as fuck, 4chancreator point
>>
>>83488275
OP started it, this is a company war thread, pal.

>>83488311
Road to Perdition didn't get best film in 2002, that was Chicago. It did win best cinematography though, and Paul Newman got an acting nom

K E K.

don't be sneaky now, we were talking about the Joker

Is a best acting award, who cares?

The movie deserved a best film nod and award, that I can tell you

Gee, anon, its not like /tvirgins/ aren't spamming the board with that very same image of Chris Evans laughing

Yes way, that movie was good but it was too hollywood with its ending
>>
>>83488542

Vertigo is sitll DC.

They share writters, artists and even characters
>>
>>83488487
you're projecting too fucking hard there
I READ

also, better if you stop with the Steve-Bucky thing that was just hot topick last week, considering Batman-Robin-Superman homoerotic undertones have consistenly been part of pop culture since little pedo-bait showed up
>>
>>83488292
Daily reminder that faggots storytiming Moebius mid-thread specifically to drown out opinions they disagree with has put me off of ever giving him a chance.
>>
>>83488601

Just saying anon, if you don't want to be perceived as a faggot shitposter, don't post pics that only shitposters upload.

>>
>>83488655
Well, I don't pirate comics, so I won't do that to you, anon.
>>
>>83483035
Marvel. Because they're relevant.
>>
>>83488738

Its not a popular joke anon, the joke is ''lol Batman and Robin are gay!''

I mean, at least both Batman and Robin and Superman too give a fuck about the woman on their lives.

Cap? He is willing to become a criminal, ruin the lives of other Avengers and fight them almost to death just because of Bucky.

That's gay as fuck.
>>
>>83489008

Still more hetero than Cap and Bucky.
>>
>>83488680

>people didn't maKE a popular hashtag based on Batman being gay with anybody
care to check? cause I'd bet my right testicle the number of posts concerning homosexuality for Batman or Superman far exceeds what Steve-Bucky have accomplished so far

>Cap was acting gay as fuck the whole movie

Firstly, I'm talking comics, and you're talking movies. That's something to take into account.
Secondly, where people see faggottry I see comradery and brother-like affection. Homosexuality for the Cap has definitely been ruled out from the beginning with Peggy Carter and now her niece Sharon.

And concerning your two final claims:

Anon, there's psychology studies... fucking psychology studies and essays and books about Batman being gay for Robin AND Superman (I don't know where you pulled out that "never Superman" from but I'd wager it rhymes with grass)

there's even a fucking statue about Batman and Robin kissing in some random park. Not shitting you.
>>
>>83489075
>care to check? cause I'd bet my right testicle the number of posts concerning homosexuality for Batman or Superman far exceeds what Steve-Bucky have accomplished so far

The gay captain america hashtag was so popular that it made it into the news.

While saying that Supes and Batman are gay for each other is your typical ''everybody is gay for each other in fan fiction''

and yes, I'm talking about the movies, since I was talking to a /tvirgin/ that kept replying to the thread with shit NOT about comics.
>>

''Muh studies!!!!''

Seduction of the inocent doesn't counts

You boner you lose???

>an event from 2 weeks ago that made the some american news reports is somehow more important than a notion that's been stuck in the public's collective consciousness since the 1940s

ok.
Might as well say that the video with the cat playing the piano is more important than Batman then.

also, some coward piece of trash faggot, and I'm not necessarily pointing fingers at you, has graciously decided to censor my post, which was talking about COMICS and about a massively embarassing fuckup that this anon >>83486962
and this anon >>83486735 caught themselves into, as pointed out by this other anon >>83487000
THAT was my original post, and YOU decided to make it about the movies, m8, as seen here>>83488275

first mention of movies in the thread
>>83487046

I do believe that's you friendd-o.

Because I was asking some anon ''give some marvel comics names'' and he was deflecting the question.

Meaning that he was a /tvfagg/ get it?

Nah.
It's all apples and oranges. Or at least it used to be. Each company had different things to offer. I liked bits of both, and collected such over the years. Other bits were retarded.

Now of course they're both pretty much the same. Desperately trying to find an audience while pumping out shit.
Tho I will give Marvel the win for their movies. Beats the hell out of the dark, depressing crap that DC seems to be determined to give us. And I say that as somebody who LIKED Man of Steel and Batman v Superman.
>>
>>83486294
Didn't Marvel make Kick-ass?
>>
>>83496714
>Now of course they're both pretty much the same

As somebody who grew up on Marvel I disagree. Marvel comics are complete shit these days. DC makes some retarded decision but they are the better publisher right now
>>
>>83496831

Yeah under Icon. A lot of people mistake it for an Avatar book
