The world in which we live is a fucked up place.
People can be capable of such appalling cruelty and apathy. So many things don't make sense and so many obstacles to even basic humane privileges may seem insurmountable for so many. Have you ever had to carry a 40 pound writing desk on your head for 20 miles a day in sweltering sub-saharan heat without water braving random radical islamist attacks just so you could go to school? So you could possibly SOMEDAY make it out of this hellhole cruel fate deemed you worthy of being born in?
But this is the world in which we live. Don't like it? You can always put a bullet through your head. But if you want to live in this world you have to learn to search for happiness out of your own will. Learn to see the beauty through all of the shit and find the will to reach for it. It won't be easy. Nothing is going to be handed to you on a silver platter. And in the end even with every ounce of will you can muster there's never a guarantee. But it's the battle for your own passions that makes life worth living.
I feel like this is something the universe of Zootopia 1.0 had great potential to convey. And I very much feel that this message is of great importance to kids. The world isn't a perfect place. The sooner you learn that, the better.

Probably. Been a while since I last read about it, but the inevitable heat was one of the main difficulties of the job. That, and reckless kids or obnoxious adults who try to grab and tug at their 'heads'. It's apparently quite heavy, and having somebody trying to abruptly pull it around can cause a lot of neck strain. It's also why these mascots always have handlers following them around, anytime they're mingling with the visitors, like in >>83408674 and >>83408679 - (The dude walking right behind Nick and Judy). It's the handlers responsibility to make sure none of the visitors get too rough or grabby, since the mascots can't always see it coming with their restricted peripheral vision in those suits.
