Kesel last issue. You can tell that he run out of ideas by this point.

Next A.J Lieberman take on Harley: Noir style

I remember this issue being pretty boring, although the Joker basically giving up was kinda funny.
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>83353567
It is, although is understable, Kesel had to have a filler issue so that the new writer could have a good start on the title and besides he already did a magnificent job during the Gotham and Metropolis arc of the book
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>83353703
This Joker design is also really weird. He looks ridiculously young.
>>
And now we enter a new take on Harley Quinn, a more grounded style. This is the run in where that bait image happens. So prepare yourself for a Harley never seen before
>>
>>

I really like this part. We're so used to Harley being manic and fun but during this section it's like she just can't even fool herself anymore.

She's all tired and beat up and put through the wringer. It's pretty clear by this point in the book that she's coming unraveled.
>>
>>
>>
>>83353936
I couldn't have said it better. This part of the book put Harley through a nice perspective that you never seen a character like this being in

I especially how they draw Quinn without her mask. Whenever we see her in other media she's always all made up with perfect hair; here, she just looks ragged and tired.

This series has a lot of problems and kind of meanders a bit in the middle, but it's overall really solid if you like the character.

>>
>>83358805
It is true though. Extremely edgy harley is shit.
>>
>>83358880
But she isn't, the situations in itself are but Harley as a character presented here isn't
>>
>>83358919
I mean have you seen the ending of this arc? utter bullshit my man.
>>
>>83358963
I have seen it, and what happened to the little girl is terrible because Harley was presented with a tough option. I am not saying Harley was innocent in that situation but you can see how she came out to that conclusion, and ever herself realize that that was a bullshit option to take in the last issue
>>
>>83353999
Yeah. I just think its really cool that for once we get to see Harley out of her normal state of detached levity. We get to see her vulnerable and out of control.

It's sort of like those scenes in Injustice where she admits she has a kid get mom takes care of. For as much as she acts like a bouncy bubbly dreamgirl, she's also a woman who lost control of her life and has to deal with that.
>>
>>83353816
Yes! Best story.
>>
>>83354183
God I love that last panel. That's why classic costume is the best.
>>
>>83356677
whose cell? the father's? joker's? i don't get it
>>
>>83358963
>>83358880
How is it edgy? How is it any edgier than anything else she does?

Disregarding this book she's complicit in a huge number of the Joker's mass murders. She has poisoned and killed tons of people. Within this book she has outright murdered, either through incompetence or directly, nearly every single person who willingly followed her- and that includes a close friend.

Harley's hands have NEVER been clean. She is absolutely not a good person, and it honestly misses the point of the character to try and make her saintly (looking at you, Palmotti.)

You want to see edgy? Look at Morrison's Harley. She's an insane murderous psychopath. This Harley is just a weak woman making terrible decisions.
>>
>>83358880
This isn't edgy.

Harley blowing up a bunch of kids with hidden bombs is edgy.
>>
>>83353936
I really like the way they handled it in this book. And moreover, this was the kicker for Harley pushing to get herself well and get some REAL help. That whole character development arc put her on track to be JUSTIFIED in being a hero/anti-hero, someone you could actually root for. She was getting better but was still her silly self.

And then goddamn SIRENS.
>>
>>83359268
The guy's father. He was committed and put into the same cell as his dad. Because Arkham.

>>83359175
I'd like to see her motley's tails a little longer, but yeah, the costume is really striking. I'd love more stories with her solo in that costume, especially if they did more acrobatic combat.
>>
>>83353703
It's funny how the Harley Quinn book shipped Bats x Joker harder than Quinn x Joker
>>
>>83359430
What's with the sirens?
>>
>>83359618
Gotham Sirens. There was a thread for it last night. Check the archives.
>>
>>83359638
Yeah, I know about the comics, but what about it? what does it have to do with this comic storyline?
>>
>>83359618
Don't make me do it again man
>>
>>83359430
Definitely. Having a character realize they've gone way too far is a really excellent way to properly handle a turn like that; it feels especially deserved, too, after an entire book of her realizing just how badly her life is spiraling out of hand.

That said, my reading is a bit more cynical than that. What we know about Harley is that she runs from the consequences of her actions. During the first act, Harleyvision is her way of shielding herself from the reality of what she does. During the second act she flees Gotham after the death of her entire crew, before fleeing her punishment in Hell. The ending of the third act has her coming to terms with the fact that she commited an evil act, not accidentally through negligence, but intentionally. Her committal is her once again relinquishing control of her life to somebody else, because she knows she's not capable of doing it herself.
>>
>>83359671
A return to status quo in the worst most out of character way possible
>>
>>83359671
My point was that this comic was the point where Harley started the road to rehabilitation. There were some hiccups, to be sure, but there were more stories of her getting better, working to get her crazy under control. I think she was even an amazon for a while, but the point is she was working toward redemption.

And in the span of maybe three issues, the ending of Sirens nukes all of that and sets it all back to status quo, and bam she's back in the Joker's arms like she never even left.

I really need to read Injustice. What I've seen of it with her and Green Arrow is great. Is the rest of it that good?
>>
>>83359893
Year One to Year Three are great, Year Four to Year Five are horrible
>>
>>83359831
I'll never understand why anyone would like redemption from completely awful characters. When villian have ongoing stories written for themselves you have two option, you either make them good or even more evil. I want to see how utterly messed up Harley can be, not this recovery stuff while stil wearing her jester outfit for crying out loud.
That's why I prefer Injustice Harley over any other Harleys.

>>83356197
You mean this kind of thing?
>>
>>83359932
I can appreciate redemption if it's fleshed out and built up. Especially in Batman villains, since a big theme among them is that they're mentally ill. Some of Batman's villains are just plain sick. Every now and then it's nice to see one actually recover from that sickness, to try and make it back out into the world.

I didn't want to see Harley become some superhero, really. I just wanted her to try and get her life back.

She just ended up getting the wrong life back.
>>
>>83359932
The thing is, Harley as a twisted psychopath is missing the point just as much as Harley being good is. Harley is a character who tries to be good but doesn't have the strength to.

That's what's interesting about her; she's human.
>>
I like it when we can have these kinds of chill, relaxed discussions about characters, /co/. We should do this more often.
>>
>>83360017
Harley said it here man>>83354183 and batman mentioned something important here as well >>83353788

Harley is not a good person. She's never been, even when she went into Arkham she did it so she could make profit from mentally ill people. She's always been cunning and sly. Then she began with the real crime to the point she's actually killed people. It's hard to go back from that when she was created as a side-kick with over attachment issues and a rabid fanbase that gets off that attachment. You also have to consider her originis are quite cartoony, unlike batman and joker, so she's got to be silly and loving, otherwise she loses her core characterization.
Yeah, you can try to write serious stuff for her, but you can't get extremely away from what makes her what she is without messing the character up.

I like this, anon.

Harley is not evil, but she's not good either. She's just messed up and unable to help it, because that's the way she is and I honestly believe that's the way she wants it. She knows what's good and bad for her, hell, in injustice she admits the joker was awful, but he was hers. She does what she feels like doing man, and that's okay. She doesn't need redemption or to be saved. She just needs what hse believes is happiness.

>>83360326
>>83360342
How does all this compare to the way they do her now? I haven't been able to bring myself to look into it much.
>>
>>83360478
Harley is in lesbians with Ivy and in a bunch of random situations with her super amazing friends and pets while trying to make a new life away from gotham city! there's not a bit of insight of her character's struggles in a serious manner, nope, all is bubbly and super fucking fun! she also beat the joker into a bloody pulp because she don't need no man!!
and she goes back to him five years later in the most random fucking story ever created.
I fucking hate Palmiotti and Conner

I see.

So I haven't missed much.

I guess I shouldn't have wished on that monkey's paw to have Harley and Ivy be together. The cost was too great.
>>
>>83360626
And they're not even officially together. They're a thing without the monogamy or jealousy. This means Harley can make out with deadshot while Ivy looks happily at them.
you still have three wishes left. Make things right.
>>
>>83360626
Also their dynamic changed completely. Pam was supportive, but harsh and blunt. She would choke Harley if she was being annoying or downright stupid. A banter among close friends that worry about each other and will say what they think that made them interesting to the public, specially Ivy's personality that contrasted so well with Harley's.
In the current series Harley and Ivy are nothing like that. Jesus fucking christ, they messed them up so much just to pander to political correctness :'(
>>
>>83360478
Not at all. Harley is now a walking meme like Deadpool. She is also completely over the Joker. I think they also did a breast expansion comic.
>>
>>83360760
As I understand it these days, Ivy doesn't have much personality at all.
>>

I haven't read it, but Ivy's got her own comic about raising pod people daughters.

>Harley is an abject failure as a woman, and as a person

:(
>>
>>83361232
I have this feeling, like they realized at some point after originally bringing her back that they fucked her up and went too turbo-dark. Probably with the bombing random children thing.

And ever since then they've just been trying to literally make her their Deadpool. Maybe they just tried to do too much too fast - tried to get her to that point with no buildup or development. I can't say I know where they went wrong but where we're at doesn't feel right by a country mile.
>>
If you guys think they fucked Harley up, for New 52, imagine what those of us who waifued Joker's Daughter feel like.
