Who the duck actually liked Cyclops? Seriously, he is probably the most boring of the X-men. I have never heard anyone EVER say "Cyclops is my favorite! "
>>
cyclops is my favorite
>>
>>83343513

The trouble with Cyclops is he's the straight man of the group. They're always the hardest to like because people see them as the one with the stick in their ass.
>>
Cyclops is LITERALLY always right
>>
I liked him when I thought he shot lasers out of his eyes, since eye lasers are pretty cool, you know like Superman can do.

If I was given a choice of X men to play in a game, he'd still be pretty high up there for the range aspects.
>>
>>83343513
>I have never heard anyone EVER say "Cyclops is my favorite!
Grant Morrison.

Love this outfit the most
>>
>>83343895
Hey look kids, Nightwing has a cool visor!

>>83343513
Why the fuck is the visor so thin? Are his eyes just tiny slits? Is he missing eyebrows? Missing the top of his nose bridge? Frank Quitely art is so boring to look at I would have missed this if there was a word balloon in the panel. When I'm reading his books I skim read like a motherfucker. Who likes this stuff? I do not understand his grotesque style. Especially for the X-Men. Cyke has the same Jaw and Chin as Superman here, it's huge.
>>
Cyclops is my favorite of the O5, and my second favorite of classic Claremont (after Kurt). So there.
>>
>>83344026
I agree, Sameface Gary Frank is waaaaaaaay better
>>
I remember really liking Cyclops based on the drawings and power as a kid.
It's just that everything he's in has him acting like a socially maladjusted asshole regardless of his positions.
It's like when you agree with someone but they're such a jackass about it you almost wish you didn't.

Alright Cyke fans, sell me on the character, because I'd written him off years ago. What can I read to change my mind?
>>
>>83344026
>>83344111
I don't know why you guys are both shitting on good artists here. Preference is fine but don't go full retard. Neither is bad.
>>
If you removed Cyclops's eyes, would he shoot beams from the holes, or would you have two punch-guns?
>>
>>83344203
It's so stiff and posed. I'll admit he got better and All Star Superman is an example of a more kinetic and dynamic style. However, most of the time he draws faces with these stupid lips and squinted eyes.
>>
>>83344217
probably nothing. It's also a bit of a wasted effort, he is pretty much gone from modern comics.
>>
>>83344217
Avengers vs X men. He was fighting a nazi that's trying to send the mutant race to extinction
>>
>>83343513
People like Leonardo too. Boring people, who grew up to be lawyers or something.
>>
>>83344397
I love how he just becomes more right with every passing day
>>
>>83344397
And while fighting said Nazi he became one himself. With his own Auschwitz on Limbo and ended up destroying the planet he supposedly was making better.

>MUH PHOENIX MIND CONTROL
It's not like he stayed to pay for his crimes, he keeps making excuses. Even Emma wanted to stay in jail until he broke her up against her will.

He's no better than Nazi America. Both deserve lifetime jail or even death penalty.
>>
>>83344217
I think he's pretty likeable and engaging in both Claremont and Morrison's runs.

He reminds me of Ostrander's Rick Flagg, but rather than being crushed by the immense weight of his responsibilities he is able to find a sense of calm and balance. People (including characters in the books) interpret this balance as Scott being very straight laced and boring, but he wants to have fun and let loose. He's just afraid to.

I really liked Morrison's Scott. He had an affair that I totally sympathized with, joked with Wolverine and finally seemed like he'd found some happiness
>>
>>83344327
That is the first time I've ever heard someone describe Quitely's art as "stiff".
>>
>>83343513
Cyclops is kind of an asshole, he is marvel's Hal Jordan, thought he is less moronic than Hal
>>

Adding muh to the front of something doesn't make it illegitimate. He wasn't in control of his own actions.

He is probably one of the few characters with an interesting and incredibly wide character arc in all of cape comics.

He starts off as a boy scout indoctrinated by Charles Xavier's optimistic but highly dangerous mindset that mutants can just live among humans despite the constant persecution. Then as he starts to grow away from Xavier, you see that he starts to understand Magneto more and more. Today, Cyke is all about preservation of the mutant species. The time travel young X-Men could have been used better but it shows just the stark differences between the two Cykes and hell it even shows that Jean is still attracted to him despite his changes because he didn't change as a person, cause as a character he still is a leader. He just has different motivations now and it's interesting watching those motivations change over the years.
>>
>>83343513
Cyclops is my legit favorite. But I always go for leader specially morally conflicted or compromised leader

Well, there was that whole deal where after Jean died for he first time he met and married some (other) nice redhead with Clairemont intending to retire him and give him a conclusion to his character arc. Then the powers that be retconned her death and force wrote him abandoning his family in order to bring back a sort of status quo. Even though it was a mandated kinda hung fans hated his ass for it.

>>
When I first started reading X-Men during the Claremont & Bryne run he just seemed like a dick like this new team will never be as good as the old one even though they're older and no how to use their powers. I loved when he left the team and Storm took over. What he did to his wife and baby made me hate the character, and the way everyone forgot about it sucked. I started liking him during the Morrison run because he finally seemed more than a two dimensional uptight whiner. The Whedon run actually made me love the character I think he was at his best then. After that I went back to hating him. So many of his decisions just didn't add up with his past, which I get people change. Schism solidified him as being a dick again and please keep him from any Phoenix powers. My favorite Cyclops moment in the last ten years was in secret wars where he's all Phoenix again and starts going on about how the mutants are going to rule this world because it's their rightful place and Doom snapped his neck! Like how useless are you. I don't know if he still has some of Apocalypse still in him but when did he become Magneto Jr.? I could almost seeing him wanting to wipe out humanity to give mutants a safe future. When did he go from fighting to be equals to the only thing that matters are mutants and how they're the next step in evolution and become a separatist?

Cyclops is an interesting character, I'm sorry he doesn't sniktbub or crack quips all the time. He actually had a pretty consistent development over the years (as consistent as one can get in decades of marvel comics). Also his role is important because without a righteous and stern leader the "rebelious" character have nothing to rebel against.

DICK RIDER
>>
>>83365545
Also Ellis. Basically every good modern X-Men writer loves the fuck out of Cyclops. Because he's awesome. This shouldn't be controversial, it should be like loving Batman. Everybody loves Batman. If you don't love Batman you're weird.
>>
>>83365596

>>
>>83365596

>>
>>83365167
You obviously have not been keeping up with Marvel. All the writers try to shit on Cyclops by making him seem like an absolute asshole, despite the fact that their self-inserts are literally worse in every single way.
>>
>>83343513
People will point you to Morrison or Rightclops but if you want some great Cyclops, go read Claremont's stuff, especially the Byrne run and maybe even going back into Roy Thomas' run as well. Cyclops, when written well, is the guy who is willing to put the weight of the world on his shoulders for what he believes is right. He's so committed to this that he is willing to sacrifice everything, including his own personal happiness, for his vision and his ideals of justice and protecting not just mutants but the entire world.

Privately he has lots of doubts about just how much longer he can (or even if he should) go on, about the way his duty can and does have such a negative impact on everyone around him. But when push comes to shove he's the only one with the confidence to do what needs to be done and do it the right way. The only one who can shoulder the expecations of an entire people and the hard decisions that come with them because he believes so much in what he does and that he's the only person who can do it. To me that's what a well-written Cyclops should be and that's what makes him such a good character.
>>
>>83365839
Examples?

actually , why do people like mutants at all they are just a bunch of crybabys

>bwaa sob sob i got awesome powers and i go to a school where i have a bunch of friends with superpowers, b-but normies don't like me.. sometimes... other times they consider me a hero, but sometimes they are mean because i have powers

i mean come on, if i were a mutant i would just make up a story, like i got my powers in a lab accident or something and become a normal hero

every mutant would have a better life if they had never started their super exclusive mutant clubs

His fucking son from the future told him what would happen. He has a daughter from the future who has plenty of experience with the Phoenix Force. The love of his life IS the Phoenix Force. I'm pretty sure if there is a character you can trust in regards to the Phoenix Force it's Cyclops.

Morrison didn't, he made Jean cuck him with Wolverine, and really showed Cyclops to be a dick most of the time, and only competent half the time.

You're talking about where everyone thinks he's wrong but he turns out to be right?

You know it's written like that on purpose, yes?

Same thing is going to happen with the current "Cyclops did a bad thing" story.

Everyone thinks he did a bad thing, but he actually didn't do a bad thing. He did a thing that makes everything alright in the end. He did the only right thing. And he's not actually dead. Ave he'll save the X-Men in the end because the rest of the X-Men are apparently useless.

Do you know what I want to read in Marvel Now. An X-Men book which goes back into the initial Claremont Era. It would be a book in which Cyclops is the field leader and teacher to a group of all new X-Men and its reference to the Claremont lineup. The dream one would be Surge, Hellion, X-23, Gentle, Dust, Mecury, Elixir with Ilya as an assistant to Scott.

It would be a book where Cyclops wonders whether or not to go on as an X-Men as it has brought nothing but pain and misery to him. And he would learn from the kids and the kids from him about what it means to be an X-Men.

He didn't actually do anything there. Aaron just had him hang around occasionally when Logan fucked up teaching again and Bendis had him jerk off in a bunker for six years.

Oh, wait, there was that time he tried to talk down an omega-level mutant and failed because SHIELD nuked him. He was right then.
>>
>>83366520
You are not supposed to see Cyclops as being right though. The writers keep shitting on him, telling the reader that Cyclops is an awful human being and he deserves to die. When Bendis writes Cyclops in New X-Men he is supposed to be seen as a sympathetic character, but ultimately a villain. When Aaron writes him, the entire thing goes down Wolverine=Good Cyclops=Bad.

The simple fact that you think he is right shows how well those books were written.

Cyclops, Storm and Rogue for legit X-Men team book characters.

Especially recently because it wasn't always this bad. Not for Emma and Jean Grey, anyway.

Also, Emma didn't appear in every issue of Uncanny and rarely showed in other places (if ever) without him.

Jean Grey has been dead for like 10 years bruh and she was contemplating an affair right before that.

Emma got the most panel time out of anyone in Uncanny X-Men and she had more to do then just be Cyke's supporting character.

>Anyway, back to the point, Cyke gets bitches and could have banged most of the girls in the Bendis run, not incidentally.

(I hate that I missed this thread up until now. I've got so much to say.)
Cyke is my favorite X-Man by miles, I can't even begin to describe how much I relate to this character on a dozen different levels.
When I first started reading comics during the Lee years (just before the cartoon) I barely noticed him, I just wanted to read more about Wolverine (the shame!) and I couldn't figure out why they were devoting so much storytime to him...
Then there was this story where some of the rest of the X-Men are investigating that creepy orphanage where Scott grew up, the one with a secret Mr.Sinister lab in it's basement, and Psylocke had a line that made me instantly identify with this poor guy;
"Scott grew up in this place? That explains why he never smiles."
How can you not feel for the poor man?
And it gets so much worse for him, yet he only ever wanted to do right by people.

The single saddest aspect of this character is that he lives in constant mortal fear of ever hurting someone, and Xavier turned him into a private soldier.

This guy is RIGHT, that guy is FRANK, Batman is secret gay for Joker, it's all just the fans projecting their own feels on a seemingly blank slate, that happens.

But come on, the X-Men are all weirdoes, it's the defining trait of being a mutant.
Name one who isn't superdooper weird in some way or another.
But not Scott, (Jeeeezus - he even has a boring name) he's the one guy who predictably sits quitely at the mall foodcourt eating the bland fish on whitebread sandwich and only speaking when spoken to.

His mutation is so powerful he can't even fucking control it. It takes extreme amounts of self-discipline every waking moment of his life for him to not annihilate everyone around him, one slip up and he could kill someone in the blink of an eye.

He has this amazing power that he has to keep under lock and key 24/7, while most of his fellow mutants get to play around with theirs. For him it's always been more of a curse. Friends, family and lovers will never be able to see his eyes, he's forced to see the world through a red tint, and he's hurt people accidentally before and the idea of doing it again terrifies him. It's a huge part of what defines him as a character, and I think that's pretty damn cool.
