The epilogue won't come out until Hiveswap does, or at the least has a release date. I expect the epilogue on 10/25 or 4/13 next year, if it misses that window it's never happening.

New players actually show up with some regularity. For all its flaws, KS does hit a lot of emotional buttons, and for a lot of people they've never really experienced something like that so it hits them pretty hard. So they find the general and get pulled into all the fan material for a while.
That's not something that can really happen with us right now because you can't just burn through Homestuck in an evening out of curiosity. Hiveswap might end up being a gateway drug.

In terms of cohesive narrative structure the story completely falls apart at Act 6. Acts 1-5 were nice and contained and despite a bunch of loose threads, Cascade actually feels somewhat conclusive, which is why everything that follows comes off as extraneous.
However, Hussie is still great at writing humor in Act 6, so a lot of people still like it even though it fails to capitalize on the emotional highs from Acts 4 and 5. It really depends on what the individual values in a story, and how high their level of tolerance for plot convenience and contrived bullshit is.

Act 6 did have potential with the alpha kids being foreshadowed for a long time and LE's origins still being unknown. Fully exploring the alpha kids to get a better understanding of the original kids' guardians could've been good, and people would've been bothered if it was never explained who or what LE was.

as interesting as that might be, I do feel like Caliborn/English has a much better personality for the role. It was difficult to imagine Jack actually caring enough to do anything more ambitious than stab people and blow up frogs. Caliborn cares a lot about domination and control whereas Jack just wants to kill things.
