Anyone got any European comic recommendations or Franco-Belgian comics in general?

Blacksad, Torpedo, Cat eyes, The saga of the metabarons.
The Nikopol Trilogy is essential, IMO even more so than The Incal. Really anything by Enki Bilal but Nikopol is his magnum opus.
other stuff that doesn't look as though it got mentioned:
SkyDoll (robot slave caught up between competing religions that operate like TV networks, has kind of a Fifth-Element vibe to it)
Okko (Japanese fantasy adventure, samurai, geishas, demon spirits, etc etc)
Wake (intergalactic convoy adventures, away missions, inter-species diplomacy, Star Trek-esque)
Quest of the Time Bird (classic fantasy adventure)
The Obscure Cities (veeeeeeery long-running series with each book centered around a fictional city. Storytelling is rather abstract, more of an exersize in fantastical architecture/urban design.
I'm still a beginner in French, any comic/webcomic recommendations that are aimed towards kids but still good?
Currently reading Tintin and probably going to read Alone in French next (already read it in English).

Thanks for the recs, I'll put them on the list. The Coles near me always has super cheap French comic books so they've been a fun resource. I also have a couple books of Bone translated into French.

question, by aimed at children you mean like children in america? or children in general, because there's comics like Melusine that's children aimed, but has flashes of skin like pic related

An easier way would be by searching by authors:
- Enrique Alcatena
- Juan Gimenez
- Jeronaton
- Pierre Alary

- Antonio Segura

Can someone explain to me, structurally, how The Incal works?
How many issues make up The Incal / Before The Incal / Final Incal? Are there spin-offs? One-shots?
I have the hardest time finding any info beyone the story summary.
>>83320566
2nding this - And does anyone have an English copy of #6?
>>83330841
Lucky Luke
>>83335983
The Incal is the entire story, Before, After and Final are spin-offs, including the Metabarons and Technopriests
>>83335983
It's actually easier for the english translation since the Incal sagas are put into amalgamated volumes so Incal/Before/Final are each their own contained book so you don't need to keep track of that stuff. In french they separate every chapter into separate books unless you spend a fuckload on a special edition.
The only real odd-man out is After The Incal which is an incomplete single chapter, Jodo and Moebius split ways and he just rebooted it from scratch as Final Incal. Then there's also Metabarons and Technopriests which are spinoffs although they share very little in common with the Incal lore. Those are also sold as single amalgamated books in english.
>>83336130
Ok. So in English I downloaded 12 issues all labeled as The Incal. Is that correct? Or is it shorter?

Wonderful
>>83320024
So it's
The Incal
After the Incal
and then
Final Incal
Right?
>>83337639
after could be considered scratch, decent read but still
>>83336130
>>83337639
Final Incal is After the Incal (never finished), redrawn, reworked and expanded. Artist is Ladronn instead of Moebius.
>>83320024
If you like Möebius art I recommend 'Blueberry', a cowboy series drawn in a more realistic style and inspired by Sergio Leone's body of work and similar spaghetti westerns.
Tintin is a no-brainer, basically kicked off the whole Franco-Belgian comics movement.
Serge le Tendre is a writer who collaborates with various artists. He's written a good deal of excellent fantasy comics that are worth checking out.
Loisel's 'Peter Pan' is amazing, beautifully done and well written. Tells a kind of prequel/companion story to the original book with a much darker take. The lost boys are street urchins, Captain Hook is a mean motherfucker and so on. It's not so long as too drag out and still long enough to tell a good story. Really worth a try, even if you are not normally into dark'n'gritty retellings. There's a good overview of the series here:

Anyone read Annibal 5 of Jodo? How is it?
>>83333838
I'm after simple grammar and not too large of a vocabulary. I am not opposed to some of dem titties along with it.
Speaking of Wake, is Ouash around? There's a new volume out but I don't know if anyone's translated it yet.
If I recall correctly the eurocomics crowd like to leave a couple of month grace period between the official release and the translation, but I don't know how long that is.
>>83320024
Bouncer, there's an omnibus collecting all the Humanoids stories.
There are 2 missing though, and they're published by Glénat, so they're probably never getting translated into English.
>>83341794
IIRC Franquin's Spirou has 100% pun-free dialogue.
>>83337639
it's
Before the Incal
The Incal
Final Incal
and After the Incal, if your interested in seeing the original plot before Jodorowsky reworked it.
hugo pratt
enki bilal
milo manara
moebius
guido crepax
sergio toppi
juan gimenez
jean van hamme
you also have classics like tintin, astérix, lucky luke, gaston
Le cycle de Cyan (anything from Bougeon really)
Le Decalogue
Aldebaran, Betelgeuse and Antares
I really enjoy Blake et Mortimer, but it can get really wordy
>>83320024
If you're looking for irreverent fun, Isnogud and Asterix are safe bets.
My European favorites (admittedly because I read them the most) are mostly Italian comics, like Alan Ford, Martin Mystere (had a TV that's an in-name-only adaptation) and Dylan Dog (had a movie that was only slighty more accurate).
I don't know if you'll find them translated into English easily, but they are generally translated into a bunch of European languages.
Alan Ford is a James Bond satire, with a handsome agent protagonist and his support team, but they're all horribly poor, suffer bad luck, and generally argue and fight all the time. Kind of like Archer, but there's a lot more interesting social commentary and historical allusions.
Martin and Dylan are similar to an extent, reflected in the fact they exist in the same universe and are best friends (and had a few crossovers).
Martin deals with the fantasy kitchen sink of conspiracy theories, myths and legends - from weapons of ancient Atlantis, alien invaders and secret societies to various godlike entities, hidden superhumans and even Peter Pan's Neverland. Martin himself in-universe is a famous archeologist and mystery-seeker who people come to with weird problems. Think Indiana Jones meets Men In Black with a dash of Doctor Strange. Generally educational as fuck as Martin takes the time to explain the historical/mythological/scientific background of every adventure, and the writers generally do their research.
Dylan is the Bruce to Martin's Clark - his stories tend to be darker, less conspiracies and SciFi and more monsters and horror, he frequently loses people and generally has a dour outlook as a result. If Martin's like a (magic-free) Stephen Strange, Dylan is like a (magic-free) John Constantine.
These aren't terribly detailed synopses, but they're generally very good comics (all of them are B&W, btw). The latter two are very popular in parts of Europe, while Alan Ford is more of a niche thing in South Europe.
Didn't see a mention for Zombillenium yet, so I'll recommend it, for a newer series
Natacha is nice

OP here. Thanks for all the suggestions.
I'd recomment Les Demons d'Alexia (Alexia's Daemons), a comic about a young exorcist being hired by the french paranormal research institute.
It was published first in Spirou magazine, despite being full of gore, dark magic and ritual murders.

Epileptic (or anything else!) by David B.
The Donjon series by Lewis Trondheim, Joann Sfar and others
Anything by Stephane Blanquet
Anything by J.C Menu
676 Apparitions of Killoffer (or anything else by him--if you're French you're spoiled for choice, if in the US or UK there's only really this book and scattered anthology appearances in English. In fact I'd recommend anything by any of the L'Association founders but especially if you're in France)
The Alack Sinner stuff by Carlos Sampayo and Jose Munoz
Anything by Jacques Tardi but You Are Here is a personal favourite
Peplum by Blutch
Anything by Christophe Blain (I think Gus and his Gang is still available in English)
>>83355245
>as long as I know you didn't pull an LCV
What did LeChatVert do? Just disappear or something? That was kind of before my time in the scanlation scene.
>>83355318
Well it's less about forcing myself, since I still want to do it and enjoy it, I just haven't been driven enough to make time for it after being so busy with school the past few months. That's why I spent that one weekend doing Felidae: I wasn't less busy than usual, but I got hyped about it and made time by pushing some stuff back for later.
Here's a compromise then, since we already have a perfectly good European comic thread up. Instead of making a new thread for it I'll post my progress in here until I'm either done or this thread 404's, in which case I'll post the finished version when it's done.

He kinda reminds me of the demon from that one gay webcomic about the guy and his demon boyfriend.

>by the way, if you haven't read Peche Mignons by the same author, I'd definitely recommend it.
It was translated as "Guilty Pleasures" and I agree, it's excellent.

As much as I like both of them, I wouldn't recomment them for beginners and non-native french speakers.
I mean, Gotlib's humor is pretty french, and
On a sidenote, Druillet did some cinema work, and one clip with William Sheller that's straight out a Lone Sloane album

...what the hell IS this comic about? is it like some historical mystery solving or something??
>>83372751
It's The Bourne Identity, the comic
>>83372751
>Man is found by an old lady on a shore, with bullet-in-the-head induced amnesia.
>Killers comes to get him some time later, he discovers that he probably had SF training or somethink in his previous life because he got a lot of murder-related muscle memory.
>Goes on a quest to find out who he really is, while everyone's hunting him.
There's conspiracies, state affairs, sexy ladies and explosions.
It's Bourne Identity meets JFK murder case, and then it blows up from there.
