It's not how hard it is to fight the Joker that's a problem, it's not even him being "unpredictable", it's his lack of restraint.
"Fighting dirty" is an understatement of his approach. You'd probably lose an eye, end up with acid on your face, electrocuted and whatever else even if you win the scuffle. The same can happen to him, but he usually doesn't care or even laughs it off.
