I don't think that's realistic at all. Some people might be afraid of them but if they are human appearing they can probably stay under the radar. Probably try to use their powers in inconspicuous ways.

The problem is, you do get that one who'd just nuke the city they were in as a defense mechanism, and you really want those types tho either A. Not want to do this, or B. have somebody who could survive that nuke to go in and stop them. Which means you also need B. to not be going "Fuck you normies, hey brother nuke their asses!"
