-Both superman and Doc have incredible god-like abilities.

-Both of them had family before they discovered their powers.

-Both of them lost something the loved before.

So why are they so different?

Why did Doc end up separating himself from humanity, but superman is drawn closer to it?

No, that's just Snyder misinterpreting everything Superman stands for.

For one thing, just because Superman is so godlike doesn't mean he's the only one with super powers. Every second person in his universe can fly or tear a car in half. Manhattan is the only one of his kind in his universe.

Secondly, Doctor Manhattan died, and now he can see the future. Thats gotta fuck a guy up just a little bit.

He didnt misinterpretated anything

Why did Doc end up separating himself from humanity.

Almost all superman futures include that. Kingdom Come, Superman prime.

four dorks in tacticool being the same as the entire remaining vietnam forces surrendering.

c'mon

Dr Manhattan is seperate from humanity because HE IS.

He can see his own personal timeline, constantly, hes not *there*. Hes 20 minutes from now, hes 3 years ago, hes a year ahead. Hes not superman.

One is omniscient (also omnipresent and nearly omnipotent). The other isn't.
One is a human become alien, the other is an alien become human.
>>
>>83252568
Because Superman thinks, sees, understands the things from a human level point of view.

Doc sees things from a point of view hugely larger and more complex. Initially he was still bound to the human race, his disinterest grew when he took confidence with his new condition.

Man your similarities are so shallow lmao
>Both of them had family before they discovered their powers
>Both of them lost something they loved before
That describes all sorts of characters, like Spider-Man. Superman and Doc don't have the same powers either.
Honestly the only way they are similar is their role in the world and the amount of power they have.
>>
>>83252568

They're not the same, they are different. They also have different powers and I'd argue Dr. Manhattan is more powerful. Super is not a God, very close to one sure. Dr. Manhattan literally can create and destroy things at a whim.

Doctor Manhattan was written decades after Superman, with the understanding that an overpowered (Mary Sue) hero needs to have some interesting flaws (kryptonite is not very interesting after the 100th time) to keep the story from being boring and predictable. Doc keeps the story interesting by falling out of touch with humanity. Superman keeps the story interesting by being a pseudo-villain in 1/20 plots, and by letting the other 19 plots be boring by saving the day in an obvious way.

Given that Superman was a fictional character in Watchmen's universe, is Dr. Manhattan creating Superman based on the comic books he might have read when he was a kid?

(Yeah, it was mostly Hollis Mason who read the books, but Jon was like 9 years old when Superman first appeared).

Yes, you did Snyder. Yes you did.
>>
>>83260341
Get out Moore. Don't you have some snake gods to conjure?
>>
>>83260341

No
>>
Wasn't Dr. Manhattan created under the assumption that having God-like powers would make you detached from humanity?
>>
>>83262744
Focusing on other part of the character uis not "misinterpretationnn" it's just exploring the character in a different way, the whole idea that Clark needs to be saving cats 24/7 makes no sense
