Wow, Moore is a hack.

How'd a guy like Moore get involved with capes anyways?
>>
>>83246790
Commenting on Blackest Night, he indirectly compared him to a racoon looking for food in his trash
>>
>>83247596
Ironic coming from the guy who wrote league of extraordinary gentlemen.
>>
>>83247694
And Lost Girls
>>
>>83247586
He truly loved them but as childish tales, and thought it would be fun to deconstruct them in dark and adult stories. But he didn't like that everyone thought that was the way to write superheroes.
>>
>>83247772
He's mad as fuck that they stripped superheroes of their original innocence, but ironically he's one of the people most responsible for it. Either he's stupid or he's really humble and underestimated the impact Watchmen would have on the industry.
>>
>>83247596
Didn't Moore actually invent the Blackest Night concept?

That's what he meant

>>
>>83247694
It's been a while since I've read League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, but wasn't Moore very humble about the whole thing, and gave credit where credit was due? Because that seems different from ripping somebody off for Big Event #143.
>>
>>83246066
I wonder if Grant Morrison convinced Johns to do this.

Millar's in the rape shirt, Irish guy is Ennis, the stuffer is Ellis.

His Harry Potter treatment alone was disrespectful and mean-spirited. And referencing old canon is not ripping someone off.

I don't know why people give Moore a pass on this hypocrisy.
>>
>>83248308
>Strong Irish accent

Americans can barely tell the difference between English/Scotch/Irish let alone when one is strong or not.
>>
>>83248049
I can see Johns generally coming up with the meta theme since he's done similar stuff with SBP already but Morrison definitely egged him on to use Watchmen in particular just to piss off Moore.
>>
>>83248566
gotta say I agree with the HP treatment.

I'm not a fan of Harry Potter at all, but I have crazy respect for Rowling for literally turning a few generations of kids onto reading.
>>

That's because he's from the North.
>>
>>83248566
>And referencing old canon is not ripping someone off
Johns didn't reference though, he stole it whole-hog.

>His Harry Potter treatment alone was disrespectful and mean-spirited
Anon please. The Boys is disrespectful and mean-spirited, League of Extraordinary Gentlemen ain't nothing.
>>
>>83248617
Yeah it's not a masterpiece or anything but it's good to introduce them to low key fantasy shit. I don't get hating it.
>>
>>83248668
The Boys isn't particularly mean, because it's aiming at a genre, at a style, not at an individual.
>>
>>83248668
Harry Potter was the antichrist and he murdered everyone in Hogwarts, later killing a member of the League by shooting lightning out of his penis. I'm pretty sure that tops any disrespect in the Boys.
>>
>>83248668
>Johns didn't reference though, he stole it whole-hog.

He basically only used the prophecy to frame his rainbow lanterns run. He retold the story so that people wouldn't have to go back to it, but that's not stealing any more than retelling other character history moments is. But because it's Moore people freak out and treat it differently for some reason as if old canon should never be referenced when that's never true.

Jimmy Bond was also a serial rapist, but that's canon to the book.

>>83249023
I just looked it up. Apparently at the time it wasn't really clear who Miracle Man belonged to, and when Alan Moore was told about how the character was never copyrighted by the owner he said
>Well, if I’d known that, I would have never taken the job, and, yes, if I can help, I do feel bad that I must have been instrumental in taking these rights from their rightful owner, whoever that might be

Apparently when Marvel took the rights to publish his MM Moore wanted his name off the book, and he wanted Mick Anglo to take all of the money he should've gained from the re-publishing
>I'm very happy for this book to get published — because that means money will finally go to Marvelman’s creator, Mick Anglo, and to his wife ... The main thing is that I will feel happy to know that Mick Anglo is finally getting the recompense he so richly deserves

Although this interview i'm reading is a bit messy and i'm kind of in a hurry, so if there's something more to the story i wouldn't know right now
>>
>>83249011
>But he talks about how none of the characters are his own.
And you think current comic writers operate under some delusion that they created Batman or Superman? Moore didn't even really create many characters being used today besides Mogo

>>83248148
>Johns in the rape shirt
How could you possibly make this assumption

The funny thing is that Moore cant seem to shake his raging throbbing write-on for Superman. As he always seems to find a way to write a Superman knock off in Supreme, Tom Strong and I think there are other examples too.

I don't blame him he's one of the very few writers that actually gets Superman and does him justice.

With that said i envisioned Moore walking into his local comics shop to check out the latest indie comics. Giving that smug sneer as he walks past the Marvel and DC racks.

Having the counter guy say "Hey Alan there is something you should see" and giving him a copy of rebirth,

And I would pay to see the look on his face when he got to the last 7 pages
>>
>>83249880
>Giving that smug sneer
Does Moore even sneer?
>>
>>83249880
Tom Strong's really more of a Doc Savage/Tarzan analogue though. I mean probably there are some comparisons to Superman (and the fact that Chris Sprouse was one of the artist on Supreme prior to working on Tom Strong) but he's more like Doc Savage if anything.
>>
>>83247975
Johns didn't rip him. It would be ripping him off if he had made a similar story with similar elements, but what Johns did was take a very vague concept from a short story and use it to build a several issues long cosmic epic while adding his own ideas.

Morrison said it best in supergods: Writers are like worker bees who help bring new life to the dc multiverse with the stories they write. Their ideas become part of a bigger tapestry. Johns has also acknowledged the same idea in a Rebirth interview. But for some reason Moore seems unable to grasp this concept.
>>
>>83248080
He gave the original creator all the rights and money after finding oit he got ripped off
>>
>>83250115
>But for some reason Moore seems unable to grasp this concept.

you seem to assume a lack of understanding instead of just disagreeing. especially since Moore is so into creator rights and being part of the multiverse seems to translate into not having those
>>
>>83250031
He does that great cockney 'snort and eye roll'.
>>
>>83247975
>>83247596
>>83250115

But it would kinda be the same as Neil Gaiman taking concepts from Moore that were in Sandman. Or even Moore himself taking many concepts from other writers in Swamp Thing.

I like Alan Moore and I understand some of his beefs with Marvel and DC. But sometimes im just like let it go man when I read some of his rants at the companies. But for better or worse he would not even be THE Alan Moore if it was not for DC. At least Gaiman appreciates that the company gave him the opportunity to be a star
>>
>>83250115
Is comparing writers to mindless insects really the best of ideas?
>>
I really want to know Moore's response to Rebirth. I know he'll never read it, so he just has to hear about it somewhere.

You can probably convince him to write "this is a piece of shit, -signed Alan Moore" on it, if you go up to him with copies of the last 3 Nemo books (even tho the last 2 were shit).
This I'd argue to be even more valuable than a straight autograph.
>>

Claiming Geoff Johns ripped off Moore is laughable when the stuff he's referencing comes from a Green Lantern story Moore did which was an explanation of why Abin Sur crashed landed on Earth instead of using the ring to save himself. It's like complaining about Steve Englehart ripping off the first Deadshot comic just because he brought back Deadshot during his Detective Comcs run.

Now if Johns had ripped off V For Vendetta or the ABC line for Green Lantern then yeah, you'd have a point. But it seems retarded to say someone is ripping off a Green Lantern story to work on a Green Lantern story.
