The worst part about Felicity is they got her back on track at the very start of season four. She was cool with Ollie going back to superheroing, she wasn't really upfront too bad outside of telling Dig and Ollie they needed to stop being brats, and things were looking up for her after season 3...

I think possibly the dumbest thing about season 5 was revealing Laurel's secret identity on a whim just because Darhk's wife was lying about it. I mean, who cares about the name. They just brought every successful case she closed back to court, got Lance fired (partially because of Felicity's mom's guilt trip), and made it easier for the public to associate Oliver and his friends with the Green Arrow. Hell, it was amazing they got away with the whole Roy spiel.

I'd say it's a budgeting measure more than anything. In almost all cases you could easily replace tv hackers with characters simply going places and gathering information, but that's more expensive than shooting someone plinking away in an old set.
