This is what I don't get. He's got some really popular and successful movies. He's just ripe for new readers to pick up his books and get into comics. Instead of banking on the movie success, which they do with every other character, when a Cap movie comes out Marvel goes and fucks Steve out of the equation. The issue isn't as bad as I expected it to be. Like, the Red Skull thing, I can see how it spins into an arguement that the right is nazi terrorists, but in the end it's Red Skull with reasonable points then he immediately tells his new converts to strap bombs to themselves and blow up americans.
The Hydra Cap thing is also obvious in Issue as Red Skull manipulation. Everything in the Flashbacks is black and white except for the Red, it's the same kind of visual cues used in Omega Men when he had their disguises up.
Coming out of the issue, my biggest worry is that Jack Flag won't be okay.
My favorite part was the last page showing the guy who was in charge of the Cosmic Cube that can change reality looking evil

Unfortunately, very few movie watchers make the transition to comics. You can ask maybe thirty and maybe 1 out of every 10 will THINK (not do, just think) about getting into them. Most will not.
Comic sales see a boost after a character shows up in a movie, but the actual number of subscribers and buyers is consistent and the growth of new readers remains as sluggish as ever; they basically just convince people already reading comics to check out a character they otherwise wouldn't have.

You've never read a #1 issue ever, have you? Publishers do this shit constantly. He probably isn't even a Nazi at all and is just playing it because he's a triple agent or some shit. This isn't even hard to figure out, anon.
Hear me out. Having Steve be a Nazi could have been a great story beat and led to some good character development. However, instead of having Steve be part of some kind of ongoing plot by present villains, he would have been Nazi special operations, The Aryan Pride, doing only the most dangerous and demanding missions and answering only to Hitler himself. However, at some point Americans capture him, and much like Bucky, they decide to turn him into an asset. Due to his looks, it is deemed it'd be the best way to undermine Hitler and his message by having the tall, strapping young blonde blue-eyed man fighting for freedom, so they make him into the highly visual and publicized Captain America we all know and love.
Now, Steve's fought the good fight for years and he still believes everything he's done is good, that the fight for freedom is a worthy one, even after everything comes out and he begins to remember some of his past deeds as a Nazi. But despite fighting the good fight for a freedom, it was never his choice in the first place, never a battle he actually chose himself. He never actually chose to fight for freedom.
He would need some time to reconcile this incongruence while going on a road trip to help right some of the global pains he did in the past as Nazi (with some of his past missions having left dark legacies behind). During the journey he would recommit himself to the fight for freedom, now capable of truly deciding to fight for it by himself.
