>Would you do it for a Scooby Snack?

The next series of the Hanna-Barbera line.
A new version of their most enduring cartoon.
The gang is all here: Fred, Daphne, Velma, Shaggy,
And the dog they call Scooby-Dooby-Doo...

This is-
Scooby-Apocalypse #1: Mysterious Gang
>>
And here we go....
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0_C2HJvtRDY
>>
Let's see how fun it is to read it in their voices.
>>
>>
Oh Shaggy.
>>
At least he still talks.
I know that was a point of contention early on.
>>
>>
>>
Hahaha, jesus christ Fred
>>
Dang Shaggy, you still got some sense of proper pizza taste in ya.
>>
>>
That's gonna get old, Fred
>>
>>
>>
>>
Alright, this Shaggy is pretty nifty.

All he needs is a genuine love of Scoob which he has in spades

Thanks OP, I was meaning to read this.

1. I think it'd be hilarious if this Shaggy and Velma got together.

2. HOLY SHIT THE DOO FAMILY

>>
>>
I think this is gonna turn out real swell.

THE END, for now.

I like to think the variants are how they picture themselves as.

I hope they add the colors to the mystery machine through the run though

>>83140731
Yeah.
I hope that we get more of the Doo family, but I think that Scrappy is likely to be the only one we get most of if they go that route.

They've went out to established that the other dogs can speak better and Shaggy trained them to respect Scooby...both moreso traits of Scrappy than Dum etc.
>>
>>83140794
its supposed to be Yuck, but scooby-speak tends to muddle that

I would've figured by the pinkish color scheme that's Scooby's sister and Scrappy's mom, Ruby Doo.

I think the one next to that with the red glowing collar is Dum

Yeah. I wasn't sure if I was gonna like this at first, but I got really into it.

Thanks, OP.

I think Scrappy Doo and the other dogs will actually be very resentful of Shaggy playing clear favorites with Scoob.

http://www.bleedingcool.com/2016/02/19/details-behind-dc-comics-scooby-apocalypse-and-yes-it-will-have-scrappy-doo/

I swear this article used to have more information, saying the first 'arc' was dealing with Scrappy leading the gang of mutant mutts as they tried to escape the facility.

I hope they don't kill off Scrappy in the first couple of issues.

The pacing was a bit off, but they had to cram a lot of exposition in. Still, it looks like it will be a great monster of the week style comic.

>hippy autocorrected to hipster
I'm more pissed over them flanderdizing Daphne (although at least it wasn't Fred this time), whatever the fuck they did to Fred's face, and what sort of Velma is this supposed to be?

Also WHY THE FUCK WAS I READING THIS IN LIVE ACTION VELMA VOICE?!?
>>
>>83142333
I tried so hard to read it in classic Velma's voice, even Micucci, but it kept reverting to movie Velma for some reason.
>>
>>83140522

Is the white one Scooby-Dum or Yabba-Doo?

Small one's obviously Scrappy, any guesses on the other two?
>>
>>83142405
I think, given the red collar, maybe the black one is Scooby-Dum, and the middle one is pinkish maybe Scooby-Dee, and the last one is Ruby-Doo
>>
>>83142232

Oh I assumed he'd already heard about that.

I wonder if he's tweeted something to DC about not using his name yet.

>>83142448

Oh yeah, Scooby-Dum always had the red hat, probably made him the black dog as a sort of bait and switch.

Either way, I was not expecting this much of the Scooby family.

Scrappy was a given but the rest are a treat.

Either way, thanks for the storytime! I've been trying to stay positive about this book in the face of /co/'s character design negativity, now I can't wait to pick a copy up later today.

>>
>>83140677
>we took the characters and made them MODERN
what if instead of trying take a story from the 70s and adding guns and violence to make it "modern", you didn't
Did people forget about the 90s
Because I'm pretty sure there's tons of people who are insane about the 90s

They tried to give everyone skills that help explain their personalities, but now they just seem so much more one note, almost the same as the original comedies

Daphne is now the tough girl whos rough and don't take no stuff
But instead of having her act like a normal person, she's aggressive towards everyone and demeaning to anyone she hangs out with

Fred is no longer looking like any sort of leader, which is fine because he only made executive decisions like how to trap people and when to split up, but now he has no personality
He's just there and he looks ugly and awful

Velma's now super pretentious, as if smart people needed any more flak, but if she were really as smart as she's supposed to be, none of these things would happen and Velma would recognize that her intelligence isn't high enough for her to say that everyone in the world but her is just destroying it

Shaggy seems like he's improved, but they took the idea of a hipster/hippie from the 70s and turned him into some foodie snob decorated with tattoos and haircuts from the 30s. Cool, he's a dog trainer. But he's good at it because he's really dumb? Instead of just being a cowardly slacker, he's now too dumb to even understand the complex scientific society background he lives in.

The same with scooby
Instead of being a dog so smart he could talk, he's a dog whose too dumb to not talk any better than he actually does

I already dislike the character, the setting is okay, but the plot seems terrible
Thank you for storytiming this so I don't have to waste my own money on this dreck

My money's on all three of them working together and getting involved in something that ended with them getting mindwiped. Fred and Daphne got relocated and given new identities with false histories, while Velma was too important to get rid of. honestly though they only REALLY started doing that with 3k1
while 3k was a mess there wernt massive changes every 1/2 issues, and they relatively slowly introduced us to the world. there would be wordswordswords, but then fighting and shit
3k1 changes shit up every fucking chance it can get, is telling three separate "teams" stories, dropped interesting characters to add three times as many new ones, AND ON TOP OF THAT decided we needed actual backstory to the universe

im a big fan of 3k, but honestly i just get 3k1 now because i know i wont be able to find its issues in a year

Gonna be honest, I didn't like it. Coming off the Future Quest comic, this just feels pointless. FQ managed to create a good story while embracing it's identity, this is just feels like it's Scooby-Doo in name only. It's everything wrong with a good chunk of modern comics, biggest offender being the constant need to explain the more fantastical or silly elements of the story when that ironically pulls me out of it even more.

Whatever, it's not like I don't have other Scooby-Doo stuff that suits my interests and better comics in general. This just doesn't interest me in the slightest, but at least it isn't the inevitable trainwreck that's the Wacky Races comic. That isn't saying much though.

This. And bravo to DC, that has the courage to try new paths for such classic properties. This was a really fresh issue. Well done!
>>
>>83140564
It got essence of the characters fairly well, which is vitally important for an "elseworld" like this. I still need to be sold on the apocalyptic setting, but I don't outright hate the idea that it's different. At first I thought 13 ghosts with actual real monsters (and a continuous narrative!) was too far removed from "traditional" scooby doo, but that turned out fucking fantastic.

The countless spin-offs prove otherwise. Its not like Batman where he actually can be anything, Scooby-Doo's a fairly simple concept. This issue in general was just poorly executed.

>>83168230
Please tell me you're baiting.
>>
>>83170735
Agreed.
I think that especially with the Scooby Gang you need that more than anything really.

I was really worried about the apocalyptic setting because the monster on the cover looked so generic.
But now they're going to be full on creature feature monsters?

That's more in line/

i wish they were more the standard scooby doo hit monsters worked in
sure there was a werewolf, and a creature from some sort of lagoon, but they had alot of "their own" based on said creatures which none of the monsters >>83140482 really inspire those

obviously we're only 1 issue in, but i hope it moves a bit further away from universal monsters, and a bit toward scooby doo monsters
which i know were based alot on the other ones, but they still had unique looks or color schemes
>>
>>83171480
Same here.
I figure those wee splash page monsters.

I mean, even if we get rid of general ghost Scooby monsters and into their various creatures...still a lot to mine.
>>
>>83171480
The monsters were always my favorite part of the show. I'm conflicted about if I'd rather see new takes on the classics like the Creeper, Captain Cutler, Space Kook, and the Tar Monster he's my favorite or if it would be better for them to be all new monsters.
I know that I want cameos of the classics at the very least.
>>
>>83172331
thats kinda what i mean
their frankenstein and their the creeper both are basically the same monster, but if you asked someone they probably remember the creeper better
even if the names are wrong, "ghost pirate dude" is captain cutler
"spooky clown" doesn't mean the clown monster from a pup named scooby doo
>>
>>83172512
i would note the monster i thought of when hearing "captain cutler" was indeed not captain cutler, it was the ghost of redbeard, and i have now refuted my entire point
>>
>>83140356
lookin awful Jewish on that bottom left panel Daph, might wanna see a doctor about that
>>
>>83140435
is it me or is Velma getting shorter with every panel? She's damn near Hobbit sized at this point
>>
>>83140564
not bad
>>
>>83173700
>with every panel
hell shes taller than the cover
>>
>>83140247

is that E.T. in the background?
>>
>>83146792
ahh, nice!

Anyways, thanks OP, wanted to read this. Pretty OK so far, interested in reading more.

So are all those H-B comics going to crossover or not?
>>
>>83140258
Since when is Daphne supposed to be smart?
>>
>>83174858
yep and that's dynomutt out in front
>>
>>83170768
Nope not at all. It was a good Elseworlds story, which set up the beginning of the team, and at the same gave an interesting and plausible background for each character. It was refreshing and kudos to DC for giving it a try.
>>
So are they saying everybody in the world has been turned into demons/monsters?

If it's everybody, that's dumb. If it's only like 10% then cool, that could work.
>>
>>83177495
I think more like "most".
Since the nanites were apparently dispersed at key points around the world a year ago and have been filtering ever since.
>>
>>83166804
I was so, so hopeful that Wacky Raceland was going to be a pisstake that tried to actually go all out with the stupidity of "Wacky Races meets Mad Max". Then the cover and synopsis came out and I want to die.
>>
holy shit, shaggy is hot af!!
>>
>>83140258
Christ, does that first panel Fred have the Downs or what?
>>
>>83140214
Welp, it definitely wasn't Future Quest tier.

First time I haven't liked a Giffen/DeMatteis book (with Porter in it too!) in a while.
>>
>>83178667
Really?
Because it's way better than the 3k shit so far
>>
>>83178691
No way, the 3000 was excellent and 3001 started great too.

This was too much exposition.
>>
>>83140325
>Looks hipster but refuses shitty gluten free pizza
Oh thank fuck he's just a Daywalker.
>>
>scooby was bullied by the other dogs, so Shaggy took it upon himself to teach him to defend himself and gain the respect of others
This Shaggy is the most bro Shaggy ever

>>83140224

so. are they going to do this with all of them?
all the old Hanna Barbara-cartoons set in the apocalypse?
>and will they crossover?
>>
>>83183804
It just seems like Wacky Races and Scooby-Doo are in the apocalypse
>>
>>83183913
so, could the Mystery Machione keep up with the cars from the wacky races?
are they going to hunt down the demons/monsters and turn them back?
will any other HB-characters/series show up?
I can't believe I am actually hyped for this
>>
>>83141777
Oh goddamn. Think that was intentional?
>>
>>83183804
>>83183913
Aren't those two set in the future, but Future Quest is set in the present and Flintstones in the past?
>>
>>83185178
Yeah it seems like they're setting these all across the timeline.
>>
This looks promising, and the new Shaggy is growing on me. Thanks, OP.

Imagine what they'll do with this guy.
>>
>>83140302
I think thought would have been a better use for the top two panels considering the off chance someone over-heard Velma talking out loud.

Also because no one usually talks out loud like that.
>>
>>83185178
Hauhau man, Flinstons, I had forgotten.
>>
>>83189200
I think it's meant to be reminiscent of the show.
>>
>>83189370
People say it's too expositional, but 90 percent of the episodes were like that
>>
>>83189436
Which is why the show wasn't great.
>>
>>83189477
Get outta here
>>
>>83189520
Nah.

Scooby Doo was never great and the worst part was the dog itself.

Deal with it.
>>
>>83140214
If it wasn't for the emoticon scouter, this new gang would be a 10/10
>>
>>83187853
I was genuinely creeped out by this guy because you had an actual victim of his preluding his presence as well as the reveal that the gang unwittingly forked over the witness to the man that was trying to kill him
>>
>>83189742
Yeah
>>
>>83189638
Maybe it will have some other purpose later on, which will give scooby something useful to do. Right now it seems rather superfluous.
>>
>>83141441
That's basically how I felt about it. Some of the exposition pulled me out from it but the personalities of the characters weren't portrayed that badly in this issue.
>>
>>83189638
This is the best Shaggy ever, I really should learn no to judge by the previews.
>>
Of the two threads for this, this is the better one.
>>
>>83166804
This was the only apocalypse comic I was aware of up until just now. I hadn't heard of Future Quest or Wacky Racelands before but it all sounds pretty interesting. Was kinda hoping it was just a Scooby thing but I watched all those shows when I was a kid so I'd be more than willing to give them all a shot.
>>
>>83177566
It still comes off as a parody. It looks like 90s of 90s wildstorm comics. I hope it's not an unironic take.
>>
>>83141525
I just realized that Dick's dreads are colored to look like his striped hat.
>>
Quick!
Name your go-to VA's for the Scooby Gang?
>>
>>83140482

So we Flexible Survival now.
>>
I liked it.
I think it did everything a first issue needs to do, and it made me somewhat excited for a comic I didn't even know existed until I saw this thread, so there's that.
>>
>>83192161
Frank Welker - Fred
Stefanianna Christopherson - Daphne
Nicole Jaffe - Velma
Casey Kasem - Shaggy
Don Messick - Scooby
I'm nostalgic for the old Boomerang reruns.

Man, this is the best comic I read this week. Talk about garb on the main two front with Nazi-Cap, and Rebirth just being ehh IMO.

I'm actually ok with the hipster thing for Shaggy, just the goddamn earrings and his stache. It'd be funny if this went on and he shaved the mustache in favor of just chin stubble and he pulled the earrings out and over the course of the comic his ears healed up. Also I wish they were in a shitty/groovy bus still, but that might be asking too much.

Other than that I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed this.
