Basically the only good times he shows up are when he's a minor part of a menagerie of villains like Knightfall of NML.

You have to cut past the white integument that separates the epidermis from the fatty tissue underneath in order for a raised scar to appear. If you seal the wound well enough, you can prevent a keloid scar from forming, though.
P.S. Does this look as disgusting as I imagine it would to strangers? It's only about an inch and a half long, but I've had it so long that I'm used to it. Haven't cut in years and I'm aching to have some semblance of a normal life this summer.

Did you reach the fleshy white layer underneath the pink surface flesh? If you cut fast enough, you'll see what looks like purplish-white chicken skin before blood begins to well out from underneath the tissue. You have to cut through that to promote the growth of keloid tissue. Anything shallower is the same as getting a scratch or rough scrape.
Not that I condone cutting, I just think people both under- and overestimate both how deep and how shallow a wound needs to be before it turns into an ugly scar. Proper care can prevent a lot of unsightliness down the road.
