Let's discuss the elephant in the room: Dr Manhattan's dick.
How will DC censor it? Will he be wearing underpants again? Will he just not have a dick anymore because he doesn't need it? Will there always be a convenient object in the way protecting the eyes of innocent children?
>>
You can just draw around it, y'know

This is the best way.

What is up with all these Dr. Manhattan/DC threads?
Are doing a cross over?
Wouldn't that take a huge dump on Moore's legacy? lol

Don't follow DC so I'm completely lost.

It would be hilarious if every shot blocks it, until one very late scene which shows ... nothing there.

Plus, Dr. Manhattan wearing pants again would actually be indicative that he now feels closer to humanity.
In Watchmen, he progressively removed more clothes the more dettached he became.

He'll probably end up in some kind of armor because that's what DC likes doing.

So imagine you're cooking a nice thick porkchop.

It's good, tasty. Maybe a little dry. You know you could do better and that there's something missing.

So you cut that fucker down the middle and stuff it with some goat cheese and dice apricots or some shit and blam, now you've got a really tasty, complete Pork Chop.

The New 52 is the Pork Chop and the Pre-52 universe is that stuffing. They're slicing it open partway through and injecting everything they want to port over from the old universe right in the middle of it.

I think he's still mad as shit about Moore's comments on Blackest Night.

>I was noticing that DC seems to have based one of its latest crossovers [Blackest Night] in Green Lantern based on a couple of eight-page stories that I did 25 or 30 years ago. I would have thought that would seem kind of desperate and humiliating, When I have said in interviews that it doesn't look like the American comic book industry has had an idea of its own in the past 20 or 30 years, I was just being mean. I didn't expect the companies concerned to more or less say, "Yeah, he's right. Let's see if we can find another one of his stories from 30 years ago to turn into some spectacular saga." It's tragic. The comics that I read as a kid that inspired me were full of ideas. They didn't need some upstart from England to come over there and tell them how to do comics. They'd got plenty of ideas of their own. But these days, I increasingly get a sense of the comics industry going through my trashcan like raccoons in the dead of the night.

I'LL SHOW YOU ALAN MOORE! YOU HAVEN'T SEEN ANYTHING YET!
>>
>>83035903
It's a good idea because people like you. It never should be held to such a standard conceptually (only the execution is noteworthy) and blaming it for the "adulting" of comics is completely fair.
>>
>>83035938
Not saying he's wrong and Johns is right, but when was the last time Moore wrote anything worth reading?

I'm not 100% sure about this, but here's a theory:

>DC Comics, part of DC Entertainment since 2011, finally moves to Burbank in 2015
>sales on the comics finally come under the kind of scrutiny they should always have been under - the kind that led most big publishing groups to pull out of the comics market decades ago
>DCC's bosses - Johns, DiDio, Lee, Harrass - push for one last chance to make it work, reasoning that there's a lot of room for overlap between comics, tv and movie audiences, and that the falling sales of 2015-> mean even if they screw up and kill off the comics audience completely, it won't really have cost any more than shutting it all down
>at this point it becomes necessary to make concessions to what used to be the studio side of DCE thousands of miles away but is now just people over the table at the meeting; it's harder to look them in the eye and bullshit that "sales will pick up" and you "have a plan"
>likewise the studio guys are having trouble pretending it's all fine
>someone mentions Zack Snyder and the DCEU
>someone mentions Watchmen
>Johns mentions Green Lantern
>someone else mentions Deadpool
>"We still have Ryan Reynolds under contract and we've refused Snyder permission to recast, because we could then use the existing movie and development work for the DCEU"
>Johns isn't opposed to the idea of bringing Reynolds back and getting his old producer gig back on a new Green Lantern movie
>Foghorn Nelson "I wonder, I say I wonder, could we bring in Watchmen to this here Dee Cee Entertainment Universe? It has I say IT HAS the same director, we could call it a prequel and tie it in somehow.... Geoff, you're writing the new Batman movie, right?"
>uhh
>"We'll make I say WE WILL MAKE a lot of money here, m'boy!"
>Harrass "Why are we all listening to her? She's a chicken, I tells ya! She's nothing but a giant chicken!"
>"Well boy what do you I say what do you say? There's a whole lot of cereal in it for ya!"
>>
>>83036204
The most entertaining thing Alan Moore has done since the 90s has been talk shit about other comic writers though. I get laugh pretty much every time he opens his mouth.
>>
>>83036145
There's absolutely nothing wrong with what he's saying. Blackest Night might have redeemed itself if it was good, but it wasn't. It was just a two-year event dragged out of an 8-page story from 30 years ago.

If you're going canoning, at least make your own stories compelling. It's not enough that you want to tell them, they have to have a wider appeal than "you and your buddies think it's cool".

Century devolved into a MODERN FICTION SUCKS, THINGS WERE BETTER BACK IN MY DAY rant though
>>
>>83036288
He wrote that Blackest Night story for DC so there's no reason why a writer who now works for DC can't or shouldn't use it for one of their own stories. It's the same thing as someone getting mad that DC is using a character they created while they were working for them but is now letting someone else write them. The character and their stories are owned by DC, not you, therefore DC is allowed to do whatever they want with them regardless of whether you agree or not.
>>
>>83036395
He's not debating DC's ownership, his point is that he's a bit mystified why they're digging up something he wrote thirty years ago in the first place rather than coming up with something fresh and new on their own.
>>
>>83036362
Nah, this is like if Waid got mad at someone using the speed force 10 years from now. It's retarded.

Concepts that get introduced should be reused. That's the point of writing at the big 2 at all.
>>
>>83036395
>The character and their stories are owned by DC, not you,

We have no claims to any of these characters and we shit on stories all the time. This just sounds like a fanboy upset from Alan Moore's banter because it's too spot on it hurts his rump.
>>
>>83036554
Thing is, I doubt Johns wrote Blackest Night because of Moore. Johns decided he wanted to do a story like Blackest Night, and he decided to integrate a famous story by Moore into it to give it more impact and deepen the lore.
Keep in mind, the prophecy given in that story is pretty different from the final result. Moore certainly didn't predict several Lantern Corps, Zombies and all that other stuff.

>There wasn't space to predict shit in an 8-page comic. Johns had to come up with a lot of filler.
It wasn't filler, what Johns wrote was the meat of the story, his story. He merely took Moore's stuff as background to the lore.
>>
>>83035866

you know, I'm not the biggest comics guy, but I sometimes wonder just how bad or good it would be if Marvel and DC just shut down and never did anything ever again. It's not like I WANT it to happen and hell, Marvel's probably making more bank now than they ever did, but at this point I don't think we'd be so boned if it did.

TL:DR - maybe hitting "reset" on the entire comics industry might not be the worst thing ever.

>>
Anyone got the image of Doctor Manhattan sad with Kingpin, Keanu Reaves, Wolverine, and other dudes shopped into it?
>>
>>83037780
Johns' run was really not about Blackest Night specifically. It was the rainbow corps. He was just building off what was already there with Sinestro's ring and the Star Sapphires and extrapolated that into a run. Doesn't make sense to overstate the importance of the Moore story here unless you have an axe to grind like Moore does.
>>
Also remember that the point of Moore's story was to explain why Abin Sur had a spaceship.
>>
Holy fuck. Why am I only hearing about this now?

>>
I want to discuss the bigger elephant.

Why do people keep calling Watchmen a deconstruction of overly serious heroes when it isn't? Just because Moore retroactively says so? Because the comic itself is in line with white a few things he himself had wrote and caused the very thing people noe say it deconstructed.
