Death of the Family overall was weak, so having it follow a solid arc with a weak ending lead to a lot of people here upset with his run.

This is true, the issue is that those sidekicks were erased and Harper was put in their place. So instead of Cass and Steph graduating from the role of Batgirl and passing it onto the next person, Cass loses her backstory, Steph was no longer Batgirl at all, and now both are Harper fangirls
