>Two-time Oscar®-winner Cate Blanchett (“Blue Jasmine,” “Carol, “Cinderella”) joins Marvel Studios’ “Thor: Ragnarok” as the mysterious and powerful new villain Hela, along with Jeff Goldblum (the upcoming “Independence Day: Resurgence,” “The Grand Budapest Hotel,” “Jurassic Park”) who joins the cast as the eccentric Grandmaster, Tessa Thompson (“Creed,” “Selma”) who will bring the classic hero Valkyrie to life on the big screen, and Karl Urban (“Star Trek” trilogy, “The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King”) who will add his might to the fray as Skurge.

Also returning cast:
Thor’s new cast members join returning stars Chris Hemsworth (“Rush,” “In the Heart of the Sea,” “Ghostbusters”) in the title role for the fifth time; Tom Hiddleston (“Crimson Peak,” “The Night Manager,” “Kong: Skull Island”) as Thor’s adversarial, adopted brother, Loki; Golden Globe® and Screen Actors Guild Award winner Idris Elba (“The Dark Tower,” “Luther,” “Beasts of No Nation”) as the Asgardian sentry, Heimdall; and Academy Award®-winner Sir Anthony Hopkins (“Silence of the Lambs,” “Nixon,” “Hitchcock”) again portraying Odin, Ruler of Asgard.

No Sif on the list. Weird. No Portman as well, though.

More stuff:

>Feige confirmed that Natalie Portman will not be in Thor: Ragnarok, adding that her absence is for "many reasons, many of which are in the film, so you will see that." One of the major reasons, according to Feige? Thor: Ragnarok takes place mostly in space:

>"But there are only a couple of scenes on Earth in this movie. Majority, 95 percent of the movie takes place in the cosmos."

>"Tonally and geographically, there are a lot of different planets in Thor: Ragnarok outside of the Nine Realms that we visit, and I'm excited to share what's going on. But it's a long way out. We start filming in July."

I want Thor to stay with Jane and just have her not appear any more. This is for two reasons.

Reason a) I don't care for a new romance interest plot. Especially since we'd have to deal with sulking Thor first. MEH

Reason b) I really want her absence to be obvious as the result of "I think I'm too good to play in your comic movie, even though I'm not doing anything worthwhile elsewhere" Same with Paltrow.

Third movie and still no ulik. I wanna see him go toe to toe with Thor using them uru knuckles

I gotta say, this cast is stacked, but in a very weird and unnique way. I mean, Doctor Strange has a murderers row of actors, but they make sense. They could be the cast of a Harry Potter or a Sam Mendes and it would work in either case. And Black Panther has it's shit so together that everyone thinks its a surefire hit already. The Black Fucking Panther! No one really thinks its a financial risk with its crew and hype machine in full swing (domestically at least).

But jesus christ this Thor movie is wild. Marvel watched What We Do in the Shadows and said "Who wrote and directed this? That weird effeminate vampire? GET HIM ON THE PHONE, WE'VE FOUND OUR GUY FOR THOR." And this cast is fantastic but all over the place. It honestly reminds me of Guardians of the Galaxy as their cast was being announced (Chriss Pratt! Dave Bautista! Glenn Close! John C. Reilly!). There's just no telling tonally or thematically or anything where this movie is going to go. It feels... like an indie movie, really. It feels like the riskiest Marvel movie since Ant-Man, and I am HYPED.

In the words of a great poet, you must always write with a pen. To think that the engineers of the bell towers, all the Chinese cobblers, followers of Falstaff all have to look upon the sullen and depressive ways of the godless harpies that parade our world in their weary ways. We should unite against our fallen brother, live in peace, not hate. You are not cattle, you are human. Nature will root thyself upon your hearts' merry content and we'll find a way to say, "Banish plump Jack and banish all the world".

When we think that our days are numbered, let us think about our lives and how much wonder we've spread to others. When we look towards the seas and think of Cthulhu, we listen to the wails and pains, we shouldn't do that...

When we are saddened, it is our duty to make right. Falstaff would not want us sullen, he brought wisdom to his peers and that of the youth. He was the Plato of that Republic.

When we look at the seasons through their unravished ways. Their silence, their peace. The Spring gives us hope, the Summer lets us be free, Autumn lets us reflect, Winter lets us rest.

Our seas are sapphires, the greens of our planet are emeralds, our mountaintops glisten like the diamonds of old...

If you could truly see how much you are loved, by at least someone, how much joy you can bring to one person's life... then you'd never raise a hand in rage again...

Come, friends. We only live once, let us not waste the most precious gift we have.

Are the writers and director of Ragnarok the same as either Thor 1 or 2?

If not then there is hope
>>
>>82962842
The clue was when they announced the director.

Waititi is good, and this should be his element. Unlike Branagh who is great but not very well suited. Track record shows that indie directors familiar with the weirder stuff are more willing to let the audiences accept stuff and put crazier, but more interesting movies. James Gunn and the Russos and even Whedon showed this (to different degrees, obviously).

Waititi is basically James Gunn with better comedy and better drama in his movies. He's seriously great. He also calls people 'egg' a lot.

During a new interview with THR, Joe Russo elaborated on the dispute, and revealed how Feige was absorbing the pain. "We've been on that [Marvel] journey from Winter Soldier, and it may have been some story points from Civil War that caused the civil war within Marvel. I think that there were years when Kevin was absorbing the pain inflicted on the company." Since the split, Joe says that the company is "much healthier, happier," and it allowed them to make "really compelling choices.

Yeah, it's basically the same humour.

It has the same weird punchline timing that you never see coming. It's not like the Russos and Wrigth that barrage you with small jokes intricately intertwined, but they are so unexpected that you are consistently laughing.

But for better understading of him as a director, I'd watch Boy. I think it's on American Netflix. It's a very bittersweet movie, that takes some very beautiful turns. It also namedrops the hulk a bunch of times.

He's just about my favourite indie director, and the only reason I'm giving Thor a third chance.

Since Infinity War starts filming this November-June 2017, I'm guessing once those actors are done filming, they go straight to the set of Infinity War. The actors in Black Panther, Ant-man and the Wasp, and Captain Marvel probably won't be available until the second half of that filming block.

The movie will be shot entirely with Alexa 65mm IMAX cameras and Russos have said they will film the both movies at the same time. Some days will be filming part 1, others part 2, but both movies will be their own thing.

Busy, busy time for them. It's a good thing the Russos will be doing it and not Whedon dragging on filming days and Ike cheaping out on everything.
