I was in college with some friends and we were eating the fuck out of some Papa john's pizza and my friend came in cracking jokes about the relation between Garfield's Jon and the Pizza's John name and shit and he said he had the movie for some reason. We put it in and laughed at a few genuine parts and didn't care about the rest, we were just hanging out.
I recall liking the vent scene though as well.

This creepy arc was going on my birthday. It's literally the same concept as all of those creepypastas making series entirely in an insane character's head or whatever but way before those were even a thing. They never retcon this or anything. There's nothing indicating it isn't completely canon.
