Damian was never meant to be Bruce's Robin. It doesnt work. I'm actually going to agree with that on the premise that King wants Bats to go back to the basics: him, Alfred, Gordon and a ward in training. Duke's not a full-fledged sidekick, it's gonna be like Tim who went through a year of training before donning the Robin mantle. Damian is already far ahead in the martial arts aspect, it's the socializing he needs and Bruce can't exactly give him that.

When will DC having a new character replace one of the most popular characters is the worst way to introduce a new character.
If Damian had been dead for a few years or if he had grown out of the Robin role, it would have been fine. But instead they shaft him when he is in a character arc where being rejected by his father would hurt him a great deal. And even worse he's being replaced by a total stranger.
