There's something I've been wondering about. What do they plan on doing with all these gems? Do they just plan on leaving them bubbled forever? Most of them are probably corrupted and can't be helped but at least a few are probably perfectly fine. I can't imagine Lapis becoming friends with them knowing there are gems like her bubbled indefinitely.

Fusing with Pearl would cause some serious mental trauma seeing her relationship with Rose.
Garnet is possible, but I don't think she really wants Steven to be part of her relationship.
They're both much more motherly than any of the other gems, so it would be kind of awkward either way.
If Steven fuses with a Gem, I imagine it's either going to be Amy or a homeworld gem since they have a lot more synergy and are more like sisters to him.

I think that part is underselling pearl as a 'person' There's no doubt that's why she did so originally, and she still struggles with Steven being so much like Rose, as seen in the scabbard ep but she clearly likes Steven for Steven too.
gems are basically immortal and rose hasn't been dead super long by their perceptions, alot of pearl is much like how if you we're raising your best friend/brother/bff's son after they died a week ago, and they looked and acted a lot like that person, it will hurt periodically even though you don't actually dislike the child.
Pearl's more likely to be afraid of the fusion with Steven because it would risk shattering her perfect perception of how she 'sees' Rose, to see what rose really thought even if it's just memory echos int he gem.

Also, it's not clear if Amethyst changed size since the proportions are different in the flashbacks. We know gems can get bigger or smaller during regenerations but it seems to be bad for their health since the only times it happened were with centipeetle and the time Amethyst hulked out in Reformed
