He's making a Sonic movie. Why is it that good creators go on to make animated movies that end up being generally terrible. Hirsch has a lot of talent. Gendy has a lot of talent. Is it because Disney only lets you direct a movie for them if you work your way up through the rank and file at Disney Animation or Pixar?

it just seems like a waste. Maybe he'll make something really great and creative with Sonic. Like how Faust took MLP and made it an actual TV show. I just hope that they don't go the CG route and instead shell out for hand drawn

It would be cool to see him surprise everyone like his unrequited waifu Faust did, but it seems like a long shot. But maybe. I feel like most studios aren't willing to risk 2D any more, though. Princess and the Frog was 2D's last stand.

It's all ture. Disney is a shit company. It's amazing they do what they can do but that's more because of their brand name and the brilliant people and amazing artists it attracts. They frequently torpedo and destroy promising projects with their bullshit and burnout all the actual artists involved because of their incompetent executives who are only there because of nepotism. No not all of them, but enough to make life hell for everyone else.

The sequel suffered from the original director not wanting to do it and the writer going to jail. If those two had been a part of it I'd imagine it could have been better. Sadly, it was not. It should never be hard to adapt a story, but it's apparently the hardest thing to do remotely right in most cases.

I mean, Alex was also destroying himself in the process taking 4 day all nighters if he and others are to be believed. I think he holds himself to a ridiculous standard for success and so he does that for everyone else too. You can see this with scientists who win nobel prizes. They hold everyone to ridiculous standards and as a result are really successful.

At least he isn't having board artists compete against each other by having them separately board the same episode and then choosing whose work will be used (and subsequently who gets credit) and whose will be thrown out. All of that is surprisingly common in science.

Today, Weirdmageddon was released in Hispanic America. As usual, Disney's religious faggotry toned down the episode.

>Time is dead and meaning has no meaning.
>El tiempo ya no existe y nada tiene significado.

>I'll die before I join you! I know your weakness, Bill!
>¡No esperes jamás que me una a ti! ¡Conozco tu debilidad, Bill!

>My dad made me and my brothers do apocalypse training every year instead of Christmas.
>Mi papá nos obligaba a entrenar para el apocalipsis durante las fiestas.

>Ah, snap! He just killed Time Baby!
>¡Oh, vaya! ¡Acabó con el Bebé Tiempo!

Money, dear boy.
Also I'm pretty sure that if you're trying to work your way up the ladder you don't want to get a reputation as a primadonna. In most industries you're expected to just work hard and take your lumps until you're powerful enough to do things your own way.
>>
>>82761456
That sounds awful. This puts into perspective why Joe Pitt got so angry and went into a stabbing spree over Hirsch changing the ending to Into the Bunker at the last minute.
I think this made the show better though and that he stopped doing it in the second half of season 2 which is why the quality was all over the place.
>>
>>82765612
So basically Hirsch is sitting on a huge amount of bad karma?
>>
>>82759749
And it's amazing how awful the finale was and how I don't even miss it.
>>
>>82765628
what was the stabbing spree? What was the ending?
>>
>>82765678
If he doesn't learn from it, yes. Again the John K comparison. He was capable of making some good stuff, but he's unable to adapt to the industry's demands, pissed off everyone he worked with, and basically became a pariah. If Hirsch can't rein it in on future projects, he'll likely end up in the same boat.
>>
>>82765116
Dude,that's lame. I'm sorry.
>>
>>82765240
He constantly took his crew out to parties and bars to uplift them. They were also churning out something that was both really good and popular. Alex seems like a nice guy to be with but poor at management and a tough work ethic.
There are stories going back to CalArts of Hirsch pissing people off by taking projects too seriously and overworking himself.
>>
>>82765723
Storyboarder Joe Pitt attempted to stab Hirsch but Hirsch fought him off. Security kicked Pitt out and then Pitt made some fake storyboards on tumblr to piss him off.

The ending was mostly the same except the dialogue wasnt good enough. It was too cliche or something.
>>
>>82763976
Where's your cartoon was a hackposting meme months before this.
>>
>>82761456
This sounds fucking horrible but I do kind of get it, when you're creating something and it's your "baby" you want it to be perfect, but this isn't conducive to entertainment as a business or even something to the quality of the final product. Look at George R. R. Martin. Sometimes just just need to get something the fuck done and think "good enough," perfectionism can actually lead to a lot of problems finishing things or finishing them well, to say nothing of him being an ass to the creative team even if he didn't need to be.

Sounds like partly or mostly an issue of Alex's youth an inexperience. Either he wasn't ready to be a showrunner or Disney needed to be way more flexible with production and provide more time and resources.
>>
>>82765864
I saw his films. They were really good. I don't think he took them too seriously, I think he just really wants to make something great. He's like any great scientist or musician. Not willing to accept anything less than perfection and constantly pushing himself.

You will notice that there were a lot of accolades for him while at CalArts. He got a name for himself and was noticed. That's great. He might actually be a genius at this stuff and is annoyed when other people can't do what he can.

Of course, maybe he needs a failure on his part to see that his system doesn't work. Success is a menace, it convinces smart people they can't fail. So far Alex has had A LOT of success really early. He needs to fail and learn why he failed. That will make him better. Otherwise he'll just end up being Orson Welles

Roiland is a great example of this. He failed into his 30s and then after all that was able to create Rick and Morty which is much more successful than Gravity Falls

He's crazy, but given the context of these cartoonbrew posts it seems more like the straw that broke the camels back after over a year of dealing with a stressful production process. I think it was also a last minute change Pitt might not have known about.
>>
>>82766225
I found out a while ago that perfectionism in a work environment can actually be a bad thing, especially in a situation where quality is subjective. It leads to a lot of stress for everyone. It also explains why people who are mediocre but reliable are often more successful than perfectionists. A chef at a restaurant who makes an amazing meal but takes all day to do it will not be as effective as a chef who makes many pretty good meals a day, after all.
>>
>>82766003
Does anyone have a trustworthy source for this story. It sounds pretty fucking crazy.

>>82760922
True, but the only good thing about Sonic is the /co/ related media he gets from his shitty games so i have hopes it will be good, with Hirsch or not.
>>
At which point/episode did you realize Alex was a complete hack?
>>
>>82766571
It's all secondary sources so take it with a grain of salt. The most reliable parts are what his then girlfriend said on /co/ about Pitt being angry over something and someone trying to stab Alex. The archives about that time might be gone for good. The details on why exactly Pitt got angry are from "anonymous storyboarders" defending Alex, which could be anywhere from complete bullshit or Alex Hirsch himself trying to clear his name.

On the one hand, you have a better chance for higher quality and a deeper, more meaningful and enduring series.

On the other, it's frustrating from a practical and business end, and fans tend to lose interest.

What other cartoons have hiatuses other than SU? I doubt SU has these problems given how much freedom individual storyboarders have with different episodes having different art styles.

I wouldn't say a "complete Hack," but Escape from Reality is where I realized I would end up ultimately disappointed. That episode was a let down and also where I realized there wouldn't be enough time in just two remaining episodes for a lot of things to pay off or be properly explored or resolved. That was where it really started to feel like the show had been both rushed through and oddly cut short.

I did still think it was a good show and liked it, but 2A felt like it was on it's way to being another B:tAS or A:tLA, a bit groundbreaking. Ultimately it was better than most kids' shows with good humor and episodes and moments of greatness. The backlash here is silly because it was still good, it just didn't really live up to its potential or some of its earlier ambitions.
>>
