Is there a tpb which covers the start of Chris Claremont's X-men run? Because right now, I don't really know where to start, availability is also kind of a problem in my country, so if I order from abroad, I want to get the right stuff.

There's like 3 Omnibuses of Claremont's run so far, I'd recommend them. you can try the Masterwork collections too I suppose
the line up everybody knows and loves begins at Giant Size X-menby Len Wein and Dave Cockrum, then go to Uncanny X-men 94 till 279
New Mutants comes in around the Brood saga
and I don't know shit about Excalibur. Late 80s I wanna say

I'm not sure I'd recommend Claremont's run for a new reader. Sure, it has most of the classic stuff, but it's also really 80's whacky and cheesy.
An alternative starting point is Morrison's New X-men and going from there.
Whedon's run on astonishing x-men is pretty good for a new reader too.

fuck off. Claremont's run IS the X-Men.

Make sure to read the Claremont/Miller Wolverine standalone too. It's fucking awesome.

Go with Claremont's run regardless of what other people say. It is the X-men run for the ages.
Oh cool, totally didn't know Uncanny Omnibus was back in print at instocktrades. Now just waiting on that Vol. 2 reprint.

Nostalgia is warping the perceptions of many Claremont fans.
He's good, don't get me wrong, and you should read his stuff, I advise it, but he's not the last person to ever make a good X-Men story.
Some people actually do think some of the work after Claremont was better.
